How to Pony: Part 2 - Forelegs
As mentioned above, the forelegs are often treated much like human arms and with little regard for how a pony’s legs would actually bend. I think this is fine as long as it is done as a conscious decision. I try to follow the guidelines whenever possible, but won’t hesitate to break the rules if I think it will make the picture better.
(As before, if tumblr made this all blurry there is a copy on my dA as well. Link)
Re-linking the other tutorials from last time because they also have some good information about forelegs:

How to Pony: Part 1 - The Basics
(If tumblr has blurred the images beyond recognition, here is a copy on my dA: link)
Starting off with the general pony body structure. Future tutorials will elaborate more on the legs and head. Proportions will vary based on style and personal preference, but ponies will typically share some similarities (e.g. location of legs, number of heads).
As a disclaimer, I’m not claiming this is the “right” way to draw ponies, this is just how I think about it. Hopefully it will be helpful for others.
Here are some other excellent general pony anatomy tutorials. I recommend checking these out too:

How to Pony: Part 4 - The Head
This one probably deserves the biggest disclaimer that this tutorial is based on the style I use most commonly and is not by any means the only right/best way. There is huge variation in how the head/face is drawn across the fandom.
This tutorial is primarily focused on the shape of the head and doesn’t really dive into details about eyes and ears and mouths. That may be the topic of a future tutorial. I’ve run out of the tutorials that were in my pipeline and will be busy with the Artist Training Ground for the next several weeks. So that’s all for now!
A few other amazing head and face tutorials.

I really like the way DVixie draws heads, so check out her gallery:

If you happen to have (or can find) a copy of the MLP: The Movie art book, it has some really good references. Page 26 has a full turn-around of Pinkie. Page 16 shows Applejack’s head from different angles and shows how the front of the face is actually fairly flat when they want it to be.
Finished this gorgeous handmade Twilight Sparkle plush. I hope you guys like her! Almost 100 hours went into making this magical girl.
If you are interested in taking her home check out this link:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XVuzjqaSQev_qgkuraqi7HFgkJfzo27wxuOwIxmF5xY/edit?usp=sharing
Please let me know what you think of her and share with any friends that would like this plush.
The hind legs still give me the most trouble. Their distinct shape means you can’t as easily treat them like a big noodle or a human appendage. Hopefully the examples above will help understand how the shape deforms based on the pose. When in doubt, look for references and try to map them onto a pony form.
(Link to non-blurry dA version)
You should definitely check out this tutorial which explains the structure of the hind legs:

Just to be clear, this has nothing to do with the little mini-comic thing I was doing. I’ll get back to that when I can.
Recap of the little improvisational mini-comic thing I had going . I hope to pick it up again soon, but for now I have to literally leave it hanging.
It would make for a great if dumb joke, were it not for the fact that events in real life following shortly upon finishing the last of these doodles drown it in sickening, all too real irony. Things are really up in the air for me at the moment, but sort of hovering.
