The evolution of my Harrow cosplay makeup!

First one is my original test makeup I did about a year ago, and the second is the makeup I wore for the first con I took Harrow to. I was originally using both black and white greasepaint, which while canon accurate was awful to wear and just would not set so I had to make a lot of touch ups all day.

The last one is my improved version, though there are still changes I'll make to the shape in the future. I did still use the white greasepaint base but changed setting powder and basically baked my whole face with it, which helped stabilise the whole base and made everything else much easier. Instead of the black greasepaint I switched to using a black pencil eyeliner to rough out all my shapes and then went over that with black gel eyeliner and black eyeshadow just to really make it budge-proof and much more crisp than I could ever get with the greasepaint.

Some of the shapes weren't quite what I wanted, and I had to forgo contacts as my eyes just weren't playing nice that day, but all in all I much preferred this method and found it way more comfortable to wear for a full day. I survived a full day at the con with no need for touch-ups, and it felt a lot more controlled than previous iterations.

I highly recommend a good cleanser and salicylic acid mask to follow it up though as full facepaint will be an acne flare-up risk of you're like me. An oil based balm cleanser like the Ordinary's squaline one or the Heimish cleansing balm are definitely ones I'd recommend, they're both fairly cheap and do a really good job of breaking down the amount of makeup used without being too hard on your skin.

Base pieces for Harrow! The dress was a lucky thrift store find, which I added slits to for ease of movement and general flair, and all the bones are made of either worbla in the case of any larger pieces, or polymer clay for the smaller finger bones. They're surprisingly comfortable and well attached considering the ones on the dress are basically just attached with thread, as I wanted them easy to remove if needed so I could make repairs, but stable enough that I didn't need to worry about them coming off during the day.

The arm needs a bit of repair work sadly as it's got some paint chipping and the wire in the hands isn't thick enough and has snapped in a couple of places, but it's held up better than I expected. It's designed on a chest harness which sits under the main dress, so that the strapping is hidden but the bone pieces can sit on top of everything else. It's also designed so that (with a bit of awkwardness) I can stow the sword in it safely so I can have a free hand at cons.

Quick shots of the jewellery I made for Harrow, all these pieces were made from polymer clay. Sadly the facepaint for the costume does mean everything ends up with black smudges on it, but that's just free weathering!
