Kurt Cobain e la sua passione per i Beatles

In particolare per la figura di John Lennon. In questo breve mix di video interviste c'è anche un momento in cui Kurt Cobain racconta come diventò << instantly a hard rock'n'roll fan >>

La parola "self-assured" non è utilizzata con frequenza nelle canzoni. Può trattarsi di una piccola citazione da parte di Kurt Cobain per omaggiare uno dei suoi punti di riferimento musicali. Peraltro Lennon dichiarò che Help! fosse fra i suoi preferiti brani scritti per i Beatles (fonte: "Lennon Remembers", Rolling Stone, 1970). Il testo si riferisce alla sua reazione al rapido successo della band << I was fat and depressed and I was crying out for help >> (fonte: intervista di repertorio pubblicata nel documentario The Beatles Anthology, 1995)

Il film, che ospita numerose celebrità rock'n'roll americane di quel particolare periodo mostrandole in veste più "umana", è fonte di ispirazione per l'adolescente John Lennon nel perseguimento del suo sogno musicale. Un adolescente Paul McCartney si esibisce in una interpretazione di "Twenty Flight Rock" (6 luglio 1957, St Peter’s Church) emulandone l'autore. Lennon ne resta colpito e lo invita ad entrare nel suo gruppo, The Quarrymen. È l'inizio. (fonte: documentario The Beatles Anthology)

James Brown e la cover di "Something"

La versione preferita di George Harrison per la sua "Something" (brano da lui composto per i Beatles nel 1969, incluso in Abbey Road, coverizzato da molti artisti) fu quella del 1973 di James Brown, che ne diede personale imprinting e fece aggiunte nella parte iniziale e finale del testo (fonte: Financial Times, 23 Sept 2019)

"Somethin' Else" (1959) di Eddie Cochran è stata interpretata nel tempo da vari artisti, tra cui Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers nel 1980.

In "I Won't Back Down" di Tom Petty, George Harrison è accreditato come acoustic guitar, backing vocals. Nell'official video (vedi sopra) compaiono sia lui alla chitarra che Ringo Starr alla batteria anche se quest'ultimo non prese parte alle registrazioni.
