I think the same applies to Minecraft as a whole.

With the World being made up of relatively rough pixel textures, artists have the ability to interpret these as they wish. The sheer amount of interpretations of mobs, player skins and environments visible in the art of the community is just outstanding. The way in which different people interpret the smallest groups of pixels on a texture is fascinating.

This vague artstyle (if thats how its called) the game has, is perfect for fostering the variety and creativity similar to how the game itself fosters these aspects through its gameplay.

actually the thing i liked most about mcyt content, likr dsmp, hermitcraft, the traffic/life series and the like, is that it gave me absolute freedom in terms of character design. "ha ha look at this dum artist trying soooo hard to make a block guy look hot" yes that is precisely the point, thank you very much. i had so much fun with all that shit, like the hybrids and piglins and interesting outfits and unnecessary details that were there for environmental storytelling or just pure self indulgence. pure fun. that was the part of my journey as an artist that allowed me to push way out of my comfort zone and still feel comfortable sharing my art. loved that shit keep it up y'all.

ok so since it's just occurred to me that the fandom is constantly growing and changing and learning, there's some bits of hermit backstory that I know that others might not. hermitfacts coming up:

the server was built as an equal mix of builders and redstoners (and then Joe Hills was added as a WILDCARD to shake things up)

season two only happened because Joe Hills ran a coup

tango is the father of the iron farm, before 1.14 made iron farms easy, your best bet was to ask tango. tango also modded villagers before the villager update

etho invented the etho hopper clock, revolutionised the minecraft let's play, and inspired a lot of the server to play/film

impulse is the guy behind the item sorter, and he is a master of villager manipulation, with his villager breeder being in massive use

bdubs' brother, pungence, joined hermitcraft before he did and played for season one

iskall is behind the vault hunters mod and it's really cool and you should check it out

the way cub built concorp inspired Mojang to update the way villagers work

doc is friends with the Mojang game Devs (even if they took his arm)

Hypno runs the hermitcraft website, even when he's not active on the server

Welsknight came in to defend the others in a rap battle when he was away from the server

Stress runs a fitness channel alongside her Minecraft channel and being a parent

Joe hills used to have a webcomic and do drawing streams - he saw twitch be born, and will likely see twitch die

Scar got his start in call of duty

Joe Hills thought hermitcraft was a scam when he was invited

obsessed with the different levels of technology minecraft has, or at least my anachronistic headcanons for it. here's magic and potions. sometimes nuclear weaponry exists but mostly people just use swords and bows. people walk or fly or ride minecarts but they do not travel by car. they have communicators that allow them to chat with other members of the server but i do not believe these are the same as a cellphone. there's a lot of pre-industrial vibes--farming your own food, making armor, making dye from flowers, etc. there's redstone technology but it doesn't 1:1 match up with real life technology. yes they have spaceships and computers and AI no i do not think they have the internet or google <3

There’s something so fun to me about hermits referring to their builds/projects as “grian proof” and/or “scar safe”

On the hermitcraft server there are no OSHA regulations. Just “can grian break this out of boredom/over-excitement?” and “will this kill/confuse scar?”

Additional ideas bc i have thought way to much about this stuff!

Spider legs can be grilled and eaten, heck the entire thing canbe eaten! Maybe even spider eggs? They should be large enough.

Same goes for the Silverfish and they are so big that their meat should be plentiful enough for a meal.

Glow squid ink could make for some fantastic nero di seppia pasta.

Glow berries surely taste great in pies, same goes for Sweet berries.

Striders seem to have some thick meaty legs, pair that with some nether fungi and you got yourself a meal.

The End also has some interesting ingredients to offer

Raw chorus could be used like any other fruit. I'm thinking jams, cakes, juice maybe even wine

Shulkers seem to be some kind of mollusk. How about some Shulker Chowder

now to my fave minecraft worldbuilding topic

what can you cook? what's edible? what's possible with enough imagination?

I'd like to start with things that are present in-game (vanilla), first, the foods and drinks (ingredients too), having a loaf of bread with a nice mushroom stew seasoned with dandelions for breakfast is an option taken straight from the game

now let's say that I take the apples, wheat, milk, sugar and eggs to make an apple pie, that isn't in the game, but it's something possible to craft

in an extend things like salt can exist because the presence of sea water, same as things like bacon (pigs), cheese (milk) and so on

what if I throw the existing leaves in hot water to make tea?

or since all the dyes have an organic source can I make a rainbow cake?

how you cook things must be important too I imagine, maybe steak cooked in the smoker tastes way better than cooked with a fire aspect sword
