PLOT DROP 001.

It started with a fight over new curtains for the study. And it ended in tears. When Blaine Hummel-Anderson stormed out of the house and into the bed of some random at a bar, the final nail was hammered into the coffin. He came home the next morning, guilt-ridden and smelling of booze, but after confessing the truth to his husband, everything came tumbling down. He’d... kind of expected sympathy. Or at least for Kurt to take some blame. What he got instead was Kurt packing his things, throwing designer clothes into a suitcase and saying something about going to stay with Rachel.

It took a few days for the situation to calm down, but Kurt very quickly settled on what he had to do. After thirty-one years of marriage, he’d had enough. He was done. A few days later, Kurt sat his children down and told them, as gently as possible, that he was asking their father for a divorce. Stunned silence followed.

With Kurt and Blaine in crisis, it wasn’t long before the New Directions began to feel the strain. Rachel St. James initiated a conference call, but when she uttered the words “serial cheater”, Sam Evans quickly jumped to his best friend’s defence -- as did Tina Abrams, who pointed out Rachel’s own past infidelity, nearly thirty-five years ago. Rachel, in turn, pointed out both Tina and Sam’s past infidelities (nearly thirty-five years ago), and the conference call quickly dissolved into accusation and hypocrisy. Old friends began to take sides, and even couples found themselves in disagreement -- Mercedes Jones telling her husband that her sympathy was solely with Kurt, and the blame solely with Blaine.

Once the Hummel-Anderson kids were informed, the news began to travel down the grapevine, the St. Jameses, the Andersons, and Clara Abrams among the first to find out. With two pillars of their childhood about to divorce, their parents fighting with their friends and, for some, even each other, the children of the New Directions find themselves in a less stable position -- the unity and friendship their lives were built on beginning to crumble...

One saving grace is that the divorce is not yet public knowledge. Kurt is keen to discuss a timetable for announcing the news, but Blaine is reluctant. As much as they tried to keep their private lives private, America’s favourite gay couple breaking up after over thirty years will rock the public and create outcry and heartbreak. With much of their work and image tied together, separating won’t be as easy as simply signing some papers... and keeping the public in the dark for as long as possible seems to be the easiest way to cope for now.

DEVELOPMENT TASK ; playlists

Hi, all! This week’s development task should be a simple, fun one! Your task is to make playlists. It’s up to you how you approach these -- is it a playlist of songs that your character loves? That motivates them? That they listen to in a certain mood? Or is it a playlist of songs that sums them up, really embodies who they are? Or even a mixtape to the one they love? Someone they hate? Their BFF? Up to you! Do one of them, do all of them, whatever you want!

Presentation of the playlists is up to you. You can make it on spotify. I’m sure you can find a bunch of PSDs hanging about in the tags. Or you can just make a graphic and write the songs in the description. As always, I’m just throwin’ out ideas, and y’all can decide what form to take.

PLOTDROP ; ???

New New York is having its first ever plot drop! I won’t be saying what it is just yet, but trust me -- it’s a good’un. This plot drop will affect certain players very directly, but the ramifications should be felt across the entire group. I haven’t got a certain time yet, but it will most likely drop sometime this evening... expect a fallout that should last a while.

(P.S. This plot drop is a great way to get writing! I think it facilitates face to face interactions super well, and I’d love to get a little more of what everyone is thinking and feeling. So I’ll definitely be 👀 hoping to see some threads going up!)

That’s a really great question! We have a lot of people who work in the arts, so science or technology careers would be really interesting. Otherwise, see below for a random collection of jobs I think would be fun to see! I’ll update this if/when any of my players have suggestions to add!

biography

The beloved middle child and only daughter of two American icons, and raised alongside two adoring brothers, Alex is the centre of her little family, and has never wanted for much. Any dream that was in her sights was automatically in her grasp, and thus far, everything in life has come quite easily to her. Close with both of her fathers, Alex has a sweet and understanding relationship with Blaine, but through her love and appreciation for fashion, she developed a particularly special relationship with her biological father Kurt. Raised to be a tight-knit unit, her brothers are very protective of her, and she of them.

Ever since she was young, Alex knew that she wanted to work in fashion, and spent her childhood and teenage years sketching design ideas, collecting designer pieces, even sewing clothes for her Barbie dolls. After finishing high school, Alex took a gap year and, using her father’s connections, interned in the ateliers of Alexander McQueen in London and Louis Vuitton in Paris.  She greatly enjoyed these experiences, but missed her family deeply and was relieved to return to her home in New York. She has no immediate plans to leave again - this is where her family and friends are, and as far as she’s concerned, she’s happy to stay forever.

Following her return to New York, Alex began studying fashion design at Parsons. Simultaneously her father assisted her with gaining an internship at Oscar De La Renta, where she assists with the design of bridal and evening gowns. Recently, Alex has also found some work as a stylist, utilising her father’s industry contacts, and is starting to find that she is enjoying styling more than designing. A big part of her is considering dropping out of college to pursue her career, however she wouldn’t dream of bringing it up with her parents, who consider college a no-brainer for her.

Sweet and serene by nature, Alex goes about life optimistically, without meaning harm to anyone. She greatly values the opinions of her family and close friends, takes their opinions to heart, and will go out of her way to make them smile and not disappoint them. At times this has been her downfall, progressing with certain courses of action simply because it would make the people around her happy, rather than following her bliss.

Given the combination of her personality and upbringing, it should be no surprise that Alex can be somewhat trusting and at times, spoiled. She has never been through anything particularly difficult in her life and is used to getting her way, so cannot recognise certain situations as disadvantageous, which may get her into trouble in the future.

Hi, thanks so much for the interest and the ask! I’m actually in contact with the players who are over activity limit, and those who haven’t been reopened on the main are on hiatuses that have been approved by me. It’s not really been talked about here before but I manage a lot of the activity stuff from discord as I prefer to deal with it privately rather than publicly, which is why it rarely pops up on the main -- but everyone’s accounted for and has clued me in on what they’re up to. Therefore, the only open roles we have at the moment are Schuester [26] and Hummel-Anderson [21]. We’d absolutely love to see these spots filled, and we would love to have you in the group, so let me know if we can tempt you with those slots or not!

Hi, all! Back by popular demand, it’s texts from mom(s) and dad(s) -- and grandparents! For those who weren’t around before, this task is basically a chance for you to explore your family dynamic with your parents, since we see an awful lot of sibling dynamic here but none of the older generation.

You can see two examples for Cameron from his mom and dad here and here, and to add some spice to this task, we’re also throwing grandparents into the mix! We met a decent amount of the New Directions’ parents, and got information about those that we didn’t, so hopefully there’s some basis there for you to work from. If not -- the world is your oyster! Make your grandparents whoever you want them to be!

Simples. You can use chat posts, or make ‘em up with fancy PSDs. Whatever you feel like doing.
