“A Very Fancy Door”
This plot twist broke my heart. Why? Because like Violet, Klaus, and Sunny - for anyone who’s ever really lost someone, especially a parent - we’re all secretly waiting on the other side of a Very Fancy Door. We’re all Harry Potter gazing at the curtain, waiting for Sirius to pop back out. We’re all just one hand on the doorknob away from ending the nightmare of losing someone. And this scene was so poignant and so well done, because while we’ve lost someone, we know other people haven’t, and we let them go through the fancy doors, and our hearts break just a little more each time as someone else smiles while we weep.
Grief feels like waiting at the door with bated breath, then sitting, but never truly leaving. Never quite walking out of sight. Just in case. We carry our Very Fancy Doors in our hearts, set them up for people we love, and try to keep them from walking out of them. Our hearts become hallways of waiting, and our life the corridor to our own at the very end. This part broke my damn heart, because deep down, we’re all children waiting for the turning of the latch, and the reassurance that everything will be okay.

true story, I once lost a door when I was 11 cause I dared to lock it. Next thing I know, my 300 pound mother came barging through my door! :(
