Bashir’s stubble is really such a good litmus test of how bad the situation is in ds9

janeway’s the funniest person alive for making her second and third in commands a freedom fighter ideologically opposed to everything she stands for who is also in love with her and her longtime best friend who was spying on that guy

Michael Burnham is the ideal captain, in my opinion. She’s compassionate and deeply values diversity of opinion and experience. She pays close attention to her crew – to their suggestions and needs. She’s always willing to hear out people’s ideas and change her mind when presented with good arguments. She’s willing to give people second chances and shows compassion to crew members struggling or making mistakes, because she’s been there and she understands. She’s self-reflective and willing to confront her own flaws and mistakes, and to do better in the future, which I think is something that is absolutely essential for a good leader. She’s also an excellent tactician who is brilliant under pressure and balances prioritizing the safety of her crew with the mission at hand. Genuinely, I think she’s the best Star Trek captain and if I had to choose a captain to serve under it would be her no question.

i’ve been trying to parse out b’elanna’s feelings on home for a while now because they seem contradictory in a way that’s very interesting. her thoughts on what her life will look like back in the alpha quadrant are consistently not positive. she fully expects to be an outcast once again, that even if she doesn’t get thrown in prison it’s unlikely that public opinion will be especially favourable towards her and the other former maquis. yet she’s nevertheless pretty set in her desire to get back home. she’s not as driven as harry or janeway, sure, but she’s not like tom in preferring voyager over the aq, either.
i think it comes down to the fact that it’s clear that even on voyager she feels othered. see her line about how when everyone around you is one way and you’re another it can be pretty isolating, for example. and why wouldn’t she feel that way? when quite a few of her crewmates, her partner included, stereotype her for being half-klingon. so then, her options are to either feel that background radiation of alienation on voyager or back in the alpha quadrant, and at least the alpha quadrant isn’t routinely in serious danger of blowing up
