United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities In 1981, the United Nations declared December 3rd, the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD). The theme for 2019 is "Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda." To participate, NTI@Home has increased inclusivity throughout the NTI and awareness of organizations throughout the United States. World MS Awareness Day  On May 30, World Multiple Sclerosis Day raises awareness about the symptoms and the unseen affects on quality of life on people who are suffering from it. Every week, 200 people are diagnosed in the United States, while 2.3 million people living with the disease globally. Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day Every year, spinal cord injuries effects 1,700 people whether it is through injury or illness. The May 17 Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day is an opportunity to recognize the achievements of people with spinal cord injuries and the people who support them. Finally! NTI Launches New Website! NTI has a newly designed website to help businesses that want to create an inclusive work force hire Americans with disabilities. While there are two divisions of NTI that provide job services directly to the disability community--LandAjob and NTI@Home, each with its own website--NTI is now adding a site designed specifically to attract and provide information to companies interested in making diversity and inclusion a business priority. The decision to revamp NTI’s website to focus on businesses that want to create an inclusive environment was a strategic one that COO Alan Hubbard hopes will encourage partnerships between NTI and companies interested in making inclusion a priority. Potential clients looking for agents to staff a contact center can now find needed information quickly and easily. NTI Accepts Susan M. Daniels Disability Mentoring Hall of Fame Award in DC On January 29th, Lynda Gardner accepted a national award in Washington, D.C. on behalf of NTI, one of only five organizations inducted into the Susan M. Daniels Disability Mentoring Hall of Fame. Susan M. Daniels was a disability rights advocate throughout her life changing the face of disability politics. The Mentoring Hall of Fame was founded to posthumously honor Daniels for her many contributions, including personally breaking through barriers the disability community faces when seeking employment. The role of eMentors has evolved tremendously in the years since Gardner was made Associate Director of eMentoring. “In the beginning, I just hoped to find eMentors with high emotional intelligence who could relate to the people NTI was serving,” Gardner says. My team is great, and every day brings another success.” To date, NTI eMentors, under the guidance of Gardner, have helped more than 2,000 people complete NTI’s free training and more than 400 of those find employment. EMentor Team Lead Nicole Pacheco said, “The eMentors should be very proud of NTI’s induction to the Susan M. Daniels Mentoring Hall of Fame. They are dedicated to making sure their mentees succeed. Thank A Mentor Day Earlier this week, NTI was inducted into the The National Disability Mentoring Coalitions’ Mentoring Hall of Fame in Washington, DC.  During Mentoring Month, we’ve highlighted a few of the individuals who have helped individuals with disabilities successfully transition back into the workplace.  In the spirit of Mentoring Month and today, Thank a Mentor Day, we would like to highlight one of Mentor’s, Anne, who made our induction into the Hall of Fame possible.
