Addison,
Damn girl, making me read novels here now.
It must be hell having to wait for these letters. You say you worry about how we’re doing, but having to wait for the letters can’t make that worrying any better. I promise I’ll do my best to get my letters out as soon as I can, cut down on that wait time a little for ya. Ya, I can do that. Let me know what time (your time) that you’re free and I’ll try and work it out if I can. My parents never had that, so it’s different for me. You’re not making it any better telling me I want a fairy tale, Addy! Way to make me feel so manly. Nahh, it’s ok. They’re good for each other. It’s good that they gave all their kids those standards. Colby and Isabelle have it and I’m sure you won’t settle for anything less, and neither will any of your siblings.
Now I know how clumsy you are I’m gonna ask Colb about your mishaps. I have a feeling there will be some good stories. Freaking broken leg from walking. Nice one, Addy. Broke my arm when I was a kid, though, jumping off the porch stairs trying to get my dad’s attention. Last time I ever did that. Can’t say if I’ll ever say it out loud, but it doesn’t seem so bad when I write it. Long as you don’t hold it against me.
Wow, that didn’t take long. So, why are you friends with her again? Doesn’t seem like you two would get along too well. I’m glad she has you then. Isabelle’s a sweetheart and I know her and Colby are in it for the long haul, but it can’t be easy on her. I don’t even want to see it, really. It’d make me think about how much you guys miss us when we’re gone. It’d hurt more to leave and know that’s what we’re leaving in our wake, you know? Don’t worry. I’m probably coming straight to your place when I go on leave. I don’t have much interest in going back to my family’s place. It’d be a waste of time. I can wait to see your stuff. I’m sure it’s good. One of these days you’ll show me.
You’re family must be rubbing off on me. I’m glad you feel that way though. It’s true. You’re a really great girl. I would say don’t cry, but by the couple of little wrinkles on the page, I can see it’s way too late. And I’m sure Colby wouldn’t mind giving up some of that responsibility of protecting you. I’ve never really been that way because of the way my family is, but it’s funny to see what comes out when you’re around people that you actually like. We won’t have to find out, I won’t stop writing with you.
Ya, I look back on it and can’t believe I’m the same guy. It’s weird. It’s like I’m 2 completely different guys. I grew up a lot since then. I’m sure you have too if the short time I’ve known you is any evidence. Being around Colby might help too. Get some ideas and stuff on how to be a prince charming hah. I’ll have to see drunk Addison myself sometime. I’m sure it’d be quite the experience. I wouldn’t tell your dad, though, don’t worry. He’d be pissed at me for letting you drink in the first place.
Only a couple months and I’ll be on leave. I hope I’ll be seeing you. Can’t wait.
Yours,
Pvt. Chase Mitchell
P.S. You should feel special, princess.
Dear Soldier II Addison & Chase

International Call: Isabelle
Isabelle: "well who knows baby maybe I have been in manners school and my first lesson I learned how to talk poised and sophisticated on the phone with my love." She teased knowing good and well she would never take manners classes she thought she was already well mannered enough without them."yes like she does almost every night I am here more than I am home and I am okay with that, being around your family helps. She hugged me so long yesterday I think she was trying to hide the fact that she was tearing up." the kitsch family was the only thing keeping her sane and grounded without them she probably wouldn't even get out of bed. "I will and I'll hug her and kiss her cheek from you.I wish you could see how cute Addie is when she gets a letter from him and she will reply back and spends hours scribbling on paper, better watch out I think your sister is falling. Oh you mean sweet girl? She sleeps with me almost every night except for the last three she caught some stomach bug and has been sleeping in her own bed, and of course your dad got it too because he was taking care of her and sleeping with her."
Colby: "Ya, ok, Isabelle. Nice try," he said through a deep laugh. He knew full well that Isabelle wouldn't be caught dead in a manners class. Well maybe she would, but only on a dare or something and just to be able to come home and tell Colby all about the stuck up people so they could have a good little laugh. "I like that. It'll just make the transition a lot easier when you really do become part of the family," he said softly. "How's your family with you staying there so much?" He paused as she continued, brows raising at everything she said, especially about Addison. "Shit, Is. I've only caught Chase reading her letter twice. He won't let me see him writin' them or anythin'. I'm probably gonna talk to him about it soon, tell him it's ok with me, ya know? Of course he did. That little girl has my dad like a puppet on strings. You should probably get out of that house though," he chuckled, "You know with my family that bug isn't goin' away until everyone's had it."

Addison: she smiled when she heard his voice she had felt like she hadn't heard it in ages even though it was only two days ago when they spoke "remember how you said I could call whenever I wanted? Well I wanted to call earlier today but it was super late your time so I waited till it was a more reasonable time." She twirled one of her soft curls staring at her pure white ceiling wondering what he was looking at that same moment "I made a count down for when you get leave. I used green marker for you and blue for Colby. You know in twenty two days you'll be on a flight here?
Chase: "For me," he chuckled, trying to figure out exactly what time it was for her. He knew it had to be the middle of the night though. "Well, it's good to hear from you either way. Did something happen you wanted to tell me about or something?" It would make sense since she was so determined to get in touch with him that she couldn't wait until she woke up in the morning and it was dinnertime for him. Crazy girl. "I do. I have my own calendar. Lotta big x's on it. Feels so close, but so far away."

Isabelle: she smiled placing her hand on her check, her thumb softly rubbing the skin like he used to do for her. "I almost want to cry because it fills me with so much happiness hearing your voice." She laid down letting the phone rest on her ear laying still so it wouldn't move "I am okay your mom invited me over for dinner and to spend the night. Addison told me to say she loves go by the way."
Colby: "You sound like you just got out of like... manners school or something," he teased, the way she spoke sounding so proper just then. "Like she does almost every night? She told me she likes having you around. Makes her feel like she's got another piece of me at home. And you're damn sweet and helpful. She appreciates it, even if she won't really let you in on it." Just talking about his mom, even if he'd spoken to her just the day before, made his heart ache, missing her and his family. "Tell her I love her too. I'm sure I'll hear from Chase or somethin' about her, so I'm not too worried about catchin' up. What about the cling-on?"

Addison:she woke up to the buzzing of her alarm and rubbed her eyes, it was pitch black the time difference between her and chase was radical but she didn't want to effect his sleep schedule up so here she was about to call him at 3:30 am. She dialed quickly humming the soft tones of the dial tone as she waited for him to pickup
Chase: It was 11:30 in Iraq, almost time for his battalion to head to mess. It was a slow day on base, slow but horribly hot, and Chase was staying hidden in the shadows of the compound as much as he could. He heard the beeping of the bulky phone he'd gotten to bring along, signaling an incoming call. He picked it up as he headed down a hall, away from the noise of the other guys, smirking when he saw who it was. "What are you doing awake at this hour, Addy?" He chuckled.

International Call: Isabelle
Isabelle: Isabelle fidgeted with the sleeve of one of Colby's shirts as she started to dial the long phone number, she listened to the ringing and each ring seemed to be longer than the first. When she heard a soft click she grinned widely even if he couldn't see her she felt like he was there "hi baby."
Colby: Her voice was like music to his ears. He smiled and propped his head up on his hand, elbow on his knee as he sat on the edge of his bed. "Hey, pretty girl. It's so good to hear your voice." He chuckled at himself, knowing he sounded like the typical, cheesy soldier, but it was better to be like that than be bitter. Like his bunkmate was about the girl that had left him cause she didn't feel like sticking around while he went away. "How are you?"

Colby: He was sitting in his bunk, waiting for the phone call to finally click through. He had just gotten out of the shower the base had, feeling as clean as he could from it, his heart going a bit faster than normal, excited to talk to Isabelle, to hear her voice. It had been a long few months over here, and even though they got to talk a couple times a week, it would never be enough.

Addy,
You don't have anything to worry about, Ad. Colby talks nothing but good things about you. The occasional story about you getting your crazy ass into trouble when you were a kid and wild little teenager, but other than that, nothing to worry about. How'd your tests go? By the time you get this you'll probably have taken your finals too. Damn military post. I get it. But, it's nice. Your parents still really love each other. It's crazy, you know? It's like what everyone wishes they could have. I'd like to anyway. No matter how cheesy and un-soldier-like that sounds.
Addison Grace. It's pretty. I don't know if it's too girly. It's a little princessy, but I get a feeling that's a little fitting. :) They cursed you when they named you. It's like the guys with the nicknames 'lucky' that end up the exact opposite. You really that clumsy? A daddy's girl, huh? Bet you bat those pretty little eyes and Austin just about melts every time. I can only imagine how mad your mom gets when he does too. Lord have mercy. Ya, I think your gorgeous. Don't you dare tell Colb. He'd kill me for saying that about his baby sister. But it's true. You should know the feeling that comes with it, though. You deserve it. I'll say it to you as often as you like, gorgeous.
Hah! It probably would be! I'd get more paint on the shirt than the canvas (?). No she doesn't. Not many people do. I guess that's a good thing though. the ones that can handle it are the elite few and their the most special people on earth for giving up so much to love a man that lives so far away for years on and off. Strongest people I've ever met are military girlfriends. And boyfriends. I know. Damn. Isabelle is amazing. Colb's a lucky guy to have found someone like her. I'm kind of glad I'm not around to see her go through that though. It'd hurt too much. Be like insight into what a girl would go through for me someday. You're being strong too. With everything that happened to your dad, must be scary for you, but you're here writing to me and making me feel happy over in this damn desert, and keeping your parents and Isabelle sane. If I'm lucky? Well, damn I'll have to work toward that.
He seriously does. Guess I should take a little bit of that as a confidence booster that I'm not an ass. She is stubborn. Must be where you get it from too then, huh? Wait, you're kidding. She's making me a room? Wow. I think I'm actually speechless. That's the nicest thing anybody's ever done for me. You won't mind having me around? Some random guy you only know from letters mostly? I don't want you to feel uncomfortable in your own home.
Dammit. You didn't deserve any of that. You deserve the world on a damn platter, Addy, you know that? Good. I'm glad you know that now at least. If Colby didn't protect you from any assholes, I'd have to. You don't have to thank me. It's what a man should do, how a man should treat a girl. You're special though. You do mean something to me with all these letters and everything.
You don't know the guy I was before I enlisted. I was lost so I just tended to go for the bitchy girls that tended to like me more for the big house and fancy car I drove than the ones that tried to have a conversation with me. She wasn't the nicest girl, but I only really figured it out after everything was over. I look back now and I wonder what the hell I was thinking really haha. Thanks for your faith in me though. Might have to take some notes from your brother.
Holy shit! That's hilarious, Addy! Were you in one of those gross dives with the mechanical bulls that have probably seen more naked women than clothed ones? You had to have been blackout to even think about getting on one of those. You must be a funny drunk though at least, right? You live and you learn, like you said earlier, right? I might have to keep that one for blackmail for later or somethin'.
Yours,
Pvt. Chase Mitchell

Colby, as a kid in high school, had fit in well. He was a jock, just like his dad had been, a great football player, but he wasn't the wild child or the Mr. popular Austin had been. And he was incredibly fine with that. He didn't like being the center of attention, and when he'd found Isabelle, he knew he'd found a kindred spirit and the most amazing person, and woman he'd ever meet outside of his mom and (sometimes) his sister. He was so in love with the blonde, 4 years later and his feelings for her only grew. Colby smirked and wrapped her up in his arms once again, trailing his fingertips over her jaw as he gazed down at her. "Brat," he commented, not caring what anyone else thought of their affection. "And that's why I need you, Is!" He laughed, swaying a bit with the waves. "Cause you're an angel and you gotta keep me in line." He let go of her legs and turned toward shore, his back to her with arms stretched back so she could climb on. "Come on, I'm gettin' cold."

"You blame me?" He asked with a devilish little grin. It was the kind he usually gave her when they were home alone and wanted to get her into bed so he could show her how much he loved her and appreciated her pretty little body. "You know I already do that," he replied in a hushed voice, reaching up cup the back of her head and pulling her forward to kiss her on the forehead, lingering for a second. He couldn't stop laughing, enjoying the stubborn anger on her face, the scrunch it made between her eyebrows that she didn't think even she knew she did. He tugged her up into his arms so her feet no longer brushed the sand on the bottom of the ocean, dotting kisses all over her face to try and get her to relax. Silly girl. "You tellin' me you wouldn't have done it to me if ya had the chance?"

"Nope. Never. But it's only karma comin' back to bite ya, babe! You never let me forget about how I always go all slack-jawed when you get all dressed up for a date," his voice was all playful challenging, his feet wriggling around, burying down into the sand where they stood. At least they were even though. Even if he'd always think she was worlds better than him. He takes after his daddy after all. He smirked right back, their lips barely touching now with their teeth all showing. "All yours. Always gonna be all yours. Don't forget that, love. I'll say it more often though f'ya want me to. I'll remind ya too." He chuckled, giving her body a sharp little tug to close the tiny gap between their bodies before letting her go to wander off. Colby's laughter choked out along with the bit of water he'd caught as he dove in, hand swiping over his face so he could see his now soaked and hilariously and adorably furious girlfriend. He went over and cupped her jaw, wiping the salt water from her eyes and lips. "Can't be a gentleman all the time, Is. Gotta keep it interestin' or you wouldn't stay with my borin' old self."

Addison,
Not to your face at least, you don't know what he call you behind your back. Hah. Ya, I'm a little jealous. I have a brother, and he's an asshole so I'm glad you got lucky with Colb. You deserve it. Nahh. I like hearing about anything you've got to say to be honest. It's interesting no matter what it is since it's not the daily life I've got over here, you know what I mean? I feel like I'm starving to hear about life back home too. You could tell me you had a sandwich for dinner and then slept all week and I'd still be riveted. Your dad probably loved that. You see the way he looks at your mom? Jeez, I've never seen anything like it. I'd like to see the dancing though when I got home. Certainly be amusing.
My middle name is Andrew. Let's see what you can come up with with that. What's yours? Remind me not to tell you any secrets then. Wouldn't want you giving them up cause you can't lie. Good thing Colby's crackproof when it comes to that stuff. Guess you didn't get that gene, huh? Fine, no embarrassing things will be shared with your brother. Promise. It's not cause I lived with you guys, Addie. It's cause you are. You're gorgeous. And take that from me and not the guy you're including as part of the family. Kinda weird with me saying things like that. I wrote a little note and put it in with the letter. It's an IOU for the hot chocolate. Don't lose that or you'll get nothing when I get home. Hah. Yes to brunettes. But I'm good, honestly. You're enough brunette for me for now.
I'll try. Might end up with more paint on myself than on the paper, but I'll give it a shot. Calm your little southern ass. Please tell me how she reacts. Wish I could be there to see it. She probably barely knows my name, you know? Just heard about the uniform probably, and I hate that. Tag chasers, that's what my Sergeant calls them. Ya, I believe it, the inheriting your art skills from your mom. I've seen the art around the house she's done. Do you have any in the house? Pieces you wanted to show off? Like the fridge except for big girls?
What do you think she would've done if I'd ended up being a classless asshole? She was so excited and then there I am this little spoiled rich kid looking down his nose at you all? I'm really glad you guys accepted me. Crazy how different it is at home with my own parents. Feels more at home with you guys than it ever did at my place.
Shit, Addie! You deserve so much better than that. I'm pissed right now, even so far away and knowing that Colby and your dad took care of it. That's not a damn man, that's a stupid, immature and disgusting boy. I'm sorry you went through that. Have you been with anyone since? You're an incredible girl. You deserve to be loved and loved the right way this time. Karma will come around and bite that dickhead in the ass. I wish I could give you a hug right now. I'll save it for when I get home. Add that to the IOU.
No. Not really ever in love. I mean, I thought I was a couple times, but I never had that like, all consuming, I could spend the rest of my life with this girl kind of love. Nothing close to that. Closest I ever got though was this girl in my sophomore year of high school. She played field hockey and since I played football we got paired together for the homecoming fashion show, it's this funny like, joke of a thing where we basically show off the athletes, it's fun, but we just got along really well and we ended up dating for almost a year after that. I took her virginity. Felt like shit for it, too. I thought that maybe the sex was what I was missing in the relationship, but it only made me realize that I really wasn't in love with her. Poor girl. I stayed with her for a bit after that just so I wouldn't hurt her, but I wasn't the best boyfriend, you know?
What's the stupidest thing you've ever done?

Colby's brow perked right up at that, stopping right in his tracks as he stared her down, a smirk across his mouth. "I'll have to remember that. Give you a little more hell sometimes and see how hot you really think I am." He chuckled, wondering how he hadn't noticed it before. She was usually an open book to him. He chuckled, bringing his arms in front of him and flexing the muscles in his arms and torso before stepping toward her and draping his arms around her waist, hands clasped just above her ass. "Stare away, darlin', this hot bod is all yours." Her attempt at mimicking his drawl was great, it had him laughing, almost forgetting about the feel of her hands on his body. Almost. He followed her, watching the smile that resided on her face as she went toward the water. She looked so damn pretty like that. Happy. He picked up speed, racing over and wrapping his arms around her waist and running with her into the waves, diving straight into the ocean with her in tow, knowing full well he'd pay for it later.
