*aggressively leans into the mic* ALRIGHT, WHICH ONE OF YOU TWST DEVS DECIDED TO PUT THE GUY WITH THE BIGGEST CHEST NEXT TO TWO OF THE FLATTEST GUYS IN THE WHOLE CAST 🤡 That poor belt looks like it's going to burst, it truly is the strongest soldier of Magift/Spelldrive Club... I'm going to have to avoid scrolling on socials for like the next week or else I just know I'm going to be clocked by fan art after fan art of Leona in uniform 🪦

BUT HEY, IT'S OKAY, IT'S FINE, IT'S FIIIIINE. Let's compare the club outfits of Leona against his teammates to distract me from thinking about rolling for L*ona!

Many fans already predicted Leona's new hairstyle would be something that kept his hair out of his face, similar to what we see for Epel and Ruggie. This makes sense, as you would not want anything obscuring your line of sight if you're going to be playing a sport. I like that they differentiated Leona's ponytail from the one he wears in his PE Uniform card! In his new Clubwear, Leona's bangs are slicked back to not get in his way, and the ponytail is much higher. The PE Uniform ponytail still has his usual bangs and the ponytail is very low.

Around Leona, Epel, and Ruggie's necks appears to be some kind of... cord???? (I'm not familiar with sporting gear, so I don't know what the terminology for this piece is. Sorry!!) There is a different number of golden notches, and I wonder if this corresponds with their year level since Epel (the first year) has one, Ruggie (the second year) has two, and Leona (the third year and club captain) has three.

Leona’s jacket also appears to be slightly longer than Ruggie and Epel’s, though it’s hard to tell for sure because of his pose. Is that to indicate he’s the leader??? (If it’s signaling seniority, then Ruggie’s jacket would be longer than Epel’s). Edit: Leona’s longer jacket is confirmed in his voice lines to be someone only the club leader wears.

At first I thought it was a bunch of shiny golden particles but upon closer inspection, it looks to be more like a purposefully textured fade. Truly, hats off to the designers and artists for somehow making a variant of the club uniform that conveys Leona’s arrogance and includes luxurious fashion (though let’s be honest, Ruggie probably maxed Leona’s credit card buying these accessories for him www).

I think my favorite part of this new card is Leona’s face. Since the Epel Clubwear first dropped and I saw the buckles… I’ve been on a spiritual retreat in the mountains and lived a humble life as a nun, meditating in the peace and tranquility of nature to attain enlightenment. I have no worldly desires such as Fake Cat 🙏 This is me coping

This has been something that's been bugging me for a while now, but does the rest of NRC know that the prefect is from another world? I remember seeing something someone said a while ago (before book 6 came out in eng) that it isn't something the whole school knows, and I've seen other fanfics reference it, but I ALSO know that some home screen character interactions mention the prefect being from another world. It makes no sense to me if the rest of the school doesn't know cuz then why do they think the school is keeping around a magicless student? Why doesn't the prefect just go home? Every time I think of this it bugs me oskdjsjshab I need answers

Initially, I thought that only Grim, Adeuce, the Ramshackle Ghosts, and Crowley were aware that Yuu was from another world, as these are the characters who are “closest” to them. (Malleus doesn’t count, as we see their scarce interactions, including first encounter, and not once has Yuu disclosed to them on-screen about their circumstances.) They also consistently talk about Yuu’s original world at key points in the main story or sometimes in events (like how Crowley sends Yuu along to new locations using “to research a way home” as a pretense).

The others were only present to witness the Mirror of Darkness declare that Yuu isn’t fit for any dorm; they then leave to show their new freshmen around their respective dorms while Crowley (alone) tries to get the mirror to send Yuu back to their original world. There is no dialogue in the prologue which would suggest that all the students in attendance are aware of Yuu’s extraordinary origins.

… But like I said in the opening, this is what I initially thought. If you play through the main story, multiple characters indicate that they know Yuu is from another world. For example, in Terror is Trending, the Ramshackle Ghosts remark, “Oh, you have Halloween in your home world?” to which Lilia does not express any surprise. In book 5, you tour the cultural fair with Riddle and Trey, and the latter says, “Oh yeah—you came from a world without magic, right?” Then we have book 7, where the first years (minus Sebek) are discussing Mickey and none of them are shocked when Ace states “Even the Dark Mirror summoned [them] here from another world by accident…” and when Ortho says “And [they come] from a different world.”

There’s more… vague references as well?? In book 4, Jamil says that “[You and Grim] have made quite the names for yourselves since you first enrolled. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone at this school who doesn’t know who you are.” It could be that Jamil is talking about Yuu being from another world, but the phrasing includes Grim… so it could also be that Jamil means the general ruckus they caused at the orientation. (I mean, Grim did set his dorm leader’s butt on fire… so it’s hard to forget that!) In another instance, Yuu tells Malleus in book 7 that they’ve found a way home. It’s hard to gauge from his reaction, but he appears rather blasé about there being a mirror that connects their world and Yuu’s.

It’s also true that some characters express an awareness of Yuu’s origins in voice lines. For example, Ortho’s Stargazer Gear card has this line: “I wonder what everybody wished for. Did you wish to go back to your home world?” There’s a lot more voice lines than vignettes so I wasn’t able to comb through them all to fish up more examples. Just know that they’re out there, but they’re very few and far between!

Regarding staff, I don’t recall there being specification as to who does and doesn’t know about Yuu being from another world. The staff don’t really have a ton of lines beyond Unified Exams, and most of them don’t talk about Yuu at all. Trein does mention “I know you and Grim didn’t enroll bis regular procedures […]”, but that’s discussing how they got into the school and not where Yuu came from. I'd imagine that Crowley would have to at least let his school staff know what's up...? But again, no in-game confirmation as far as I'm aware.

Interestingly, the second volume of the light novel implies that Azul understands where Yuuya (the light novel Yuu) comes from. He has a line where he communicates to Yuuya that it must be so inconvenient to live in an "unknown world". The third person omniscient narration also conveys that there are rumors swirling around NRC, so Yuuya shouldn't be surprised that someone as prominent as Azul knows of his identity. In summary... Yeah, it seems like most people and/or the relevant people know. It seems that this is knowledge was probably shared with them off-scree, heard through school gossip, or learned through direct observation/a firsthand source.

is there anywhere that in game that says the Mc is the same age as the other first years?? I've been seeing a lot of discourse like "yuu can't do this/be shipped with that person bc they're like 16!!" (for ships this mostly refers to malleus, leona, and lilia)

but I don't remember anything that specifically indicates this? people argue its because they're in first year, but there are canon instances of people enrolling late/being older than their classmates. I was always under the impression that yuu was dropped with the first years regardless of age.

idk I've seen a lot of people get into stupid arguments lately, acting like other people's mc's are a crime bc they're like 17 or 18 (or god forbid 19, even though leona is 20 and there are other... complicated ages).

I think many do assume that Yuu is 16 since they’re in class 1-A and hang out primarily with first year students. However, there is nothing in the game that states Yuu is 16 or has to be (similar to the vagueness about their gender); it’s probably left open-ended so players can imagine their own “Yuus”. As mentioned by the asker, there is variation in the age of canon students (Leona, Lilia, Malleus, etc.)—and even in the Yuus featured in official TWST materials, such as 17 year old Yuuka Hirasaka from the Episode of Savanaclaw manga. I feel it’s pretty pointless to argue over Yuu being “canonically” 16 or which Yuus are and aren’t “allowed” to exist since the game itself is set up in a way that encourages using your imagination to come up with whatever kind of Yuu you want.

More likely, Yuu is lumped into a first year class for reasons other than age. Firstly, they are “half of a student” with Grim, who is starting out his magical studies as a first year student. The two need to stick together—they “complete” one another. Secondly, first year classes center on theory and are basically the only ones Yuu is able to take. The higher level classes require the practical application of magic. Grim is not to that level yet and Yuu is incapable of meeting those magical demands.

Mmm, I think that’s about all I have to say on this matter? I’m afraid I don’t care to delve too deeply into the shipping discourse mentioned—though I do understand being frustrated with fans policing and attacking others’ creations 💦 My advice is to just enjoy your own slice of the fandom rather than letting bad apples ruin your experience.

I was rereading the prologue to collect some information for a response and came across this interesting tidbit from Crowley:

“The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence!” So the Mirror of Darkness has been the one selecting and sorting students for 100ish years. This aligns with what we knew about NRC’s nearing 100 loss streak against RSA.

BUT THAT’S REALLY WEIRD???? Because we now know that NRC has been around for MUCH longer than 100ish years. Lilia first got his invitation to the school 500 years ago:

Meaning that NRC was still a thing 500 years ago?? But if we take what Crowley said in the prologue into consideration, that means that the Mirror of Darkness was a recent change in the selection and sorting process. For those 400 other years, some other method was used.

Well, TWST???? Care to elaborate??? To explain????? 😭

At this point, we still do not know how long Crowley has been headmaster for. He seems to have been the one in charge when Lilia decided to enroll in NRC 3 years ago, as Lilia thanks Crowley specifically for allowing him to be a student:

Crowley’s beef with Ambrose the 63rd in book 5 seems to indicate a long-standing rivalry. According to Crowley’s Raven Jacket vignettes, he was around as headmaster when Trein was tenured and Crewel was a student. Crowley also questions his own age, wondering how many decades ago he encountered and recruited the cafeteria’s skilled ghost chefs.

Therefore, I believe it’s entirely possible that he has been headmaster for at least the 100ish years of NRC’s losing streak. The question now is how long has Crowley been headmaster for??

If it was more than 500 years ago, then it debunks the “Crowley is Raverne/Malleus’s dad” theory, since it was Raverne who told Lilia it may be valuable to go to that school even after Lilia had tossed the acceptance letter away. How could Raverne be headmaster of NRC and be an ambassador for another country? Why wouldn’t Lilia be aware of this other occupation?

If it was less than 500 years, then it throws suspicion upon Crowley’s identity because WOW, why’s this new headmaster suddenly taking up the reins at this school that he told his friend several hundred years ago to reconsider?? And seeing how it was Crowley who let Lilia in, that’s even more shady. This would also explain the mask he wears at all times, perhaps to keep Lilia from noticing who he really is? (Though the only way this would work is if Crowley was also purposefully faking his voice, as Lilia implies that Raverne’s voice sounds like Malleus’s.)

But then thinking about how the Mirror of Darkness only started picking students 100 years ago… That means whoever was headmaster 500 prior used a different selection method??? And how does that fit into Crowley’s unknown length of tenure as NRC’s headmaster?? 💀

I don’t know if I really ended up reaching a conclusion with this post but I’d figure I’d still put it out there in case anyone found this interesting or wanted to expand on these ideas ^^

In the hometown event to the Sunset Savanna, it’s stated that it is difficult to get different kinds of beastmen to get along with one another. This is because their cultures and practices, despite all being beastmen, vary greatly (similar to different kinds of fae). They even point out that the acting king Farena/Falena, despite his good naturedness, has found it challenging to unite his people.

… You know who seemingly doesn’t have these struggles? 😭 LEONA, THAT’S WHO.

Look at Savannaclaw; there’s a variety of beastmen there (although it looks like it’s mostly predator animals based on just the game visuals alone, there are still many different kinds of predator animals depicted). Jack and Ruggie count toward this as well (since the former is a wolf and the latter is a hyena). Even so, the students in Leona’s dorm all hold the same sense of respect for their dorm leader and willing follow him (for the most part).

I wonder if Farena/Falena is aware of Leona’s abilities in this regard 🤔 We do see him in the book 2 flashback acknowledging Leona’s intelligence and trying to let him know that there are other ways he could serve their country without being king. Later on in the main story, we learn that Leona plans on interning at a mining and energy lab (presumably to learn more about how he can contribute to his country’s development via safely harvesting its natural resources). However, he also seems to have the skills and the makings of an effective diplomat 👀 you know, if Leona didn’t hate having to put on airs and all that stiff, formal stuff—

Idia Shroud:

You had never been more surprised than seeing the shaking tsum outside your door, its intrusion into your room immediate when you opened the door wide enough for its body to hop inside. It made itself comfortable under a desk in the corner, wanting an enclosed area where it would feel safe; you pouted a little as you had hoped to cuddle, but just like Idia, you knew it’d take a little work. You pulled up a video on your phone, music from a game that Idia loved, and you’d never seen something so small move so quickly. It hopped right onto the bed with you, settled and cuddling on your shoulder as it danced along to the song happily with you. Idia wanted to lock himself in a closet, and maybe lock the tsum in a separate one, and never have to think about being upstaged again.

Jack Howl:

You have to admit you’re surprised when Jack’s tsum doesn’t play its cards close to its chest; Jack did it poorly but there was still an attempt, yet the tsum lit up as soon as it saw you. It protectively took a seat on your shoulder and only separated with Jack’s insistence, which is why when it goes missing he knows exactly where it is. Seeing you cuddle starts a staring contest that has you sweating, as if Jack tsum is daring Jack to take him away from his happy place. You settle them both down with pats on the head, saying to relax and offering to go wherever Jack needed to be so you could spend more time with the tsum.

Leona Kingscholar:

Leona is actively trying to not be annoyed but keeping the irritation off his face was a challenge the second prince simply couldn’t overcome. His glare is briefly directed at the tsum who might seem expressionless at first, but he could tell it was celebrating inside for getting under his skin. Your lap had always been Leona’s napping spot, soft thighs working as perfect pillows, and it seemed the tsum had the same idea. He supposed he should’ve seen this outcome approaching since the tsum seemed to mirror him in many aspects but this was one betrayal that Leona hadn’t seen coming, from you or the tsum. He’s rarely this petty towards you so you can’t help but tease him when the opportunity approached, asking if he was really getting territorial because you wanted to cuddle with a tsum that greatly resembled him.

Vil Schoenheit:

You are the honored one, blessed to hold Vil tsum in your loving arms. Your immediate affection for the tsum was felt and reciprocated, allowing you to admire them up close and personal. It felt like good fortune shining down on you when the tsum took it upon itself to sit comfortably in your arms, allowing you to snuggle closer without complaint. Vil is annoyed that the tsum didn’t attempt to play hard to get at all. He had to bite his tongue to not reveal too much about your own relationship, though he feels some envy as it must be nice to just be held by you like that.
