Octagon Earthworks Open House Bus Trip Sunday, October 11, 2015 11am to 5pm Octagon Earthworks, Newark, Ohio The Octagon Earthworks is one of the most spectacular surviving remnants of the Newark Earthworks. The octagonal enclosure is large enough to contain four Roman Colosseums and is connected to a perfectly circular enclosure 1,054 feet in diameter. The architecture of the Octagon Earthworks encodes a sophisticated understanding of geometry and astronomy. The Octagon State Memorial is part of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks and is a National Historical landmark. It is also on track to become a UNESCO World Heritage site. The grounds of these geometric enclosures are open to the public for general strolling and viewing from sunrise to sunset only four times each year. We will be traveling to the Octagon Earthworks, located in Newark, OH, by bus. The bus will be picking up participants at the turn-around on the side of the Ohio Union (near 12th St.) at 11am and dropping off in the same location at 5pm. This event requires that you RSVP. Please register at go.osu.edu/octagonearthworks. Any questions? Contact Melissa Beard Jacob at [email protected]. #ohiostate #earthworks #bustrip #native #newark #octagon (at Newark Earthworks)

A Conversation with William T. Vollmann Tuesday, September 15 at 4pm Wexner Center for the Arts Join us in welcoming William T. Vollmann, a prolific and acclaimed writer whose fiction and nonfiction explores some of the most challenging issues of our times: war, imperialism, poverty, and prostitution, just to name a few.
