I can't even with this one. I don't think they did this ironically. The Atlantic published this article and decided the best title was "Democracy Dies Behind Paywalls." To be fair, it's an apt Atlantic title - they love dramatic headlines. But they still put it... behind the paywall...

"I don't wanna waste my time
Become another casualty of society
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity and back down"
I sing as I drive my minivan to the supermarket in leggings on a Sunday morning

Also, if you know you can't retire young, you may as well spend money on vacations. Our generation invented the awful slang YOLO for a reason.

I think my favorite thing about the Kate Middleton saga are all the Brits on Twitter and IG going "Americans have no respect for the royal family." Like, yeah, it's kind of our thing? Our entire country was born from hating on the monarchy? Duh.

Plot twist: black and Jewish were not allowed to buy Levitt houses, and included in the contracts were clauses to not sell to black or Jewish (exception being a couple of Jewish specific towns).

True story: my cousin shared pictures on fb of empty grocery shelves in 2020, as an example as to why socialism is bad. Yet the shortages were a direct result of capitalism and the images were from during the Trump presidency. But the democrats are bad and socialism is evil. The irony is lost on most people.

This is not talked about nearly enough. The older generations do not understand because they got into the market before this was a problem.
Perfect example is any vacation area. There used to be families who owned most of those properties. There were MIDDLE CLASS families that had second homes who would rent out for a portion of the season. Now the only middle class families with a second home are ones who inherited it. This is creating a bigger gap between classes.
Just look at the jersey shore. After hurricane sandy destroyed a bunch of it, corporations came in and bought up the remnants because people couldn't afford to rebuild according to the new building codes.
And this is happening in every residential area, not just vacation hot spots. It inflates the prices because they have deep pockets and will keep a property vacant rather than let it go for less money in a rent/sale.

This is a huge reason housing is unaffordable. Make this illegal.

not my meme but you all do know about this right? It feels like it's getting buried right now and I feel like its proponents are trying to take advantage of that.

I've been thinking a lot about how people always like to shit on the newest generation. Right now, I'm seeing stuff about how gen alpha/ gen Z are "lazy" and unmotivated and have a sense of entitlement. To be clear, I disagree with this characterization wholeheartedly. But I do recognize that this generation is experiencing a mental health crisis. The blame falls on the rest of us, because it must be something within the environment, within society, that is doing this to them. We cannot blame them for this. They are the product of their environment.
My kids have been needing more of me lately. Like, emotionally. And I want to be there for them, but it is at times exhausting. I was reflecting on this, and thinking about how I never needed this much attention from my parents at their ages. I never asked for more cuddles at bedtime or for them to come sit with me while I was watching TV (to be clear, they did hug me, but I feel like they needed to initiate it, always on their terms) .
And the more I thought about it, the more it's that I didn't ask because it wasn't offered, so I convinced myself I didn't need it. They were not there for me in that way, so I convinced myself I was fiercely independent and soldiered on. When we got emotional, we got in trouble. When we cried, we were told, "don't be sad." When we got angry, we were chided for not controlling our temper.
The point is, the boomers were always the "fuck your feelings" generation. It didn't start with Trump. It didn't start with Reagan. It was always there. Probably from their own generational trauma.
I'm hoping this is the generation that breaks the cycle once and for all. I'm trying to do better than the boomers did by me, but I'll admit I still get stuck in that "soldier on" mentality.
But I guess I want to say that this geriatric millennial is rooting for all you.

It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.
Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

Dear Neil. Sometimes I think about the strength you must have to answer the fans' questions, I know that a lot has to do with marketing, but it must be tedious, and it must demotivate you a little from your work. Not only you but also the actors. Thanks for the patience.
It's really not about marketing. That's why I like Tumblr, I think. It's too small for marketing. It only works if it's for fun.
