The 2024 Gender Census is now open!
[ Link to survey ]
The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.
It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.
Tumblr media
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
For the curious, you can also spy on some graphs and demographic data for the incoming responses here.
Thank you so much!

Hey, I want to remind everyone we should destigmatize incontinence and adults needing to wear diapers or other sanitary solutions most able-bodied people don't need.
Being unable to control your bladder and bowels isn't something that should be ridiculed or something we need to create any more embarrassment about
This INCLUDES if the person using them is a bigoted politician who does demonstrable harm to vulnerable citizens
He won't see it but your disabled friends will
We all remember that, right? We've all internalized that it's ableist and fatphobic and racist and transphobic and misogynistic to body shame even if "they deserve it" because this is not a personal attack on someone's character but rather pulling on and reinforcing societal attitudes that cause real world harm. Right?

Okay so I just watched a video of a boy who once identified as trans still got bottom surgery after he realized he was cis and people were so fucking rude? Like just because this cis dude has a vagina people were calling him transphobic and wishing death upon him.
So this is a reminder that when we as a community advocate for bodily autonomy and gender surgeries that means everyone regardless of gender can do whatever they want with their bodies.
If someone who is cisgender wants top/bottom surgery THEY CAN GET IT. If someone wants facial plastic surgeries that we usually find creepy like buccal fat removal or eye lifts THEY CAN GET IT. And here’s the really controversial one but if someone wants to do things that harm their body like hard drugs or diy mods THEY CAN DO IT!
Because body autonomy isn’t just “I can get bottom surgery to pass” or “I can get an abortion” it’s also all the wild stuff that makes us uncomfortable and that’s okay.

[Image description: A tumblr post edited blackout poetry style with the colors of the bi lesbian flag, resulting text as follows:]
this is just a reminder that there is such thing as a good faith contradictory identity such as the bi lesbian <3 <3 lesbians can be attracted to men, period, and to imply otherwise is blatant textbook lesbophobia no matter how many rainbow heart emojis you add after it.

Begging mogai blogs to not delete their accounts when they no longer feel like posting and want to abadon it
I know I can speak for a lot of term hoarders when I say:
Please, just leave your blog up and use it as an archive
Mute notifications if you need to
A lot of those terms are very helpful towards me and many others and when they get deleted they're just
Gone, pretty much forever unless some people reblogged it
Even then it makes them harder to find cuz most of the time they don't pop up in reblogs when you search for them
So pretty please with sprinkles on top don't delete your blogs 🙏🙏

TL;DR: We're looking for English-speaking neopronoun users (aged 18+) to participate in a paid linguistics study.
Hello!
Professor Kirby Conrod from Swarthmore College is recruiting participants for a paid interview study (in-person in Philly or on zoom). Anyone who uses neopronouns for themself, is 18 or older, and is fluent in English is welcome to participate. The study will consist of a casual interview between you and a researcher, a similar interview with a friend of yours, and an exit survey for each of you. Each will receive $15 as compensation for their time.
If you're interested in participating, please fill out this form: (https://forms.gle/YajpkjxGYiwL7RLF6). Filling out this form does not require you to participate; it's just an expression of interest.
Even on Tumblr, neopronoun use is relatively uncommon, so it would be very helpful if folks could reblog this post to help it reach as many neopronoun users as possible.

Cracker cracker cracker cracker cracker cracker cracker cracker. In all seriousness, though, cracker isn't a slur. We aren't ranking slurs when we say that because you can't rank a slur that isn't a slur. The fact that cracker refers to "[the] practice of 'cracking the whip' to drive and punish slaves" during the slave trade, makes it even more horrifying that you want to make it a slur of some kind. You want to hide the history white people directly contributed to and the horrors and atrocities we committed. You get angry when the history is brought up because it makes you feel guilty as a white person when really, it should make you feel all the more determined to make things better for POC people, and trust me, preaching that white people are just as oppressed as POC people is not the way to do it. Slurs come about because they are used to degrade and discriminate against an oppressed group of people. Often used to erase their identity and/or to make fun of their oppression, just because something offends you doesn't make it a slur; you just want to be seen as oppressed, so your racism is ignored. Well I hate to break it to you, but you can still be racist even if you are an oppressed minority.

[pt: rainbowkittic /pt]
(my entry for @chronicallyqueercoining2 's coining event, day one "something under the umbrella of catgender or pupgender")
A gender that is in some way connected to rainbows and cats/kittens. It could be liking rainbows and cats/kittens, liking rainbow colored cats/kittens, having a fursona or theriotype that is a rainbow feline, or other things. (Sorry if I worded this poorly, I'm not very good at this)

[Id: a six-stripe rainbow flag, with red orange yellow green blue, and purple from top to bottom. The stripes are blurred together, and there is a black catgender symbol in the middle. End Id]
