anyways, i can't imagine the total whiplash of meeting montana in the wild and later learning that she is not only a child of atom but a significant figure in random pockets of eastern coastal canon.

i think i deleted the original post, but both sweetwater and new augustine have a somewhat mixed relationship with ghouls. they're often the subject of cautionary and aspirational tales on the path of atom, depicting feral ghouls as the ultimate fate of those who stray too far for too long. early on into grady's rise to prominence, these beliefs were weaponized to ostracize and punish the families of those who spoke against him.

this is to say, in general, ghouls are relatively safer and more accepted in both regions. many still avoid sweetwater for obvious reasons.

i forgot to put this somewhere on my carrd, but weird poltergeist-esque shit happens around montana pretty often. things fall apart or rot at faster rates. there's random smatterings of cold drafts or unseasonably warm winds in enclosed areas. doors open and shut of their own accord. it's a lot more noticeable in more developed areas, but they happen so often that montana simply does not acknowledge it often anymore.

#don't get me wrong it scares the shit out of her #but in that dull irritating way you might treat back pain that just never went away #she only really *notices* it enough to be startled when someone else brings it up #+ INFO.

i will get around to a bigger post at some point, but new augustine is built over the ruins of st. augustine. its primary common areas are built out of flager's campus and what is left of the fortress. while the flooding isn't as bad as sweetwater, there are significant chunks of the area that are partially or fully submerged and, similarly, boats are a common form of transportation.

#it is probably comparable to diamond city by the events of fo4 #but the long winter halved its population #mobile. #it won't likely come up in verses away from this area but montana is a decent sailor

adding this to my portrayal notes as well : but it's somewhat important to note that most of what happens in sw between montana and grady and the newer sect that'd settle in new augustine under montana's leadership all occurs before the events of winter of atom ( the ttrpg prequel to fo4 ).

#i am still deciding how much of the main questline of woa she participates in but she *does* travel to diamind city in search of cassidy
