It IS true that being on here gives you a tumblr accent. This morning my mother asked me something and i replied "i don't know i've never heard these words in that order" and she nearly choked laughing. It wasn't even that funny

More stories from hell (retail) today I was ringing up this lady and she goes oh I want to do part of this on a gift card and the rest on normal card and I go ok and then she hands me a folded piece of paper. I think oh OK it must be folded around the gift card, right? Wrong. It is a folded sheet of 8×11 printer paper with "$40" written on the inside in ballpoint pen. I go what is this. She says a gift card. I say this is not a gift card. She says yes it is. I say this is a piece of paper with "$40" written on it. She says "well it's a gift card." I say it absolutely is not. I am grinding my teeth. She says well I want to use it. I say you physically cannot do that bc it is a piece of paper. I cannot scan or swipe it. I apologize, as if this is my fault, and not because she is completely insane. I hate it here

I fucking hate this "capitalism is when you make money, the more money you make, the more capitalism it is" mindset people have gotten. No, an artist selling their own work is not them engaging in capitalism, it's literally a worker owning their own means of production.
Remember capitalism is someone profiting off of someone else's labor though owning capital. It is not simply the act of profiting at all.

JOB SEARCH HELL IS OVER!
Tumblr media
I got the job at the medical office! The only downside though is that I'll have to start wearing scrubs and I'll have to go buy white sneakers (and the sneakers I like cost like $200)...not looking forward to wearing scrubs, but I'm hoping they'll let me buy my own since I'm plus-sized. Already been researching scrubs brands other plus-size people like to wear, and already found a few I want to try.
But yeah!!! I'm getting paid $19 an hour, I'll be working 40 hours a week and I don't have to work weekends! Plus it's office work, so I can sit and there's plenty of a/c! \o/ AND I'LL HAVE MONEY AGAIN!!! I CAN BUY STUFF WITHOUT BEING STRESSED OUT AND GUILTY!!

The medical office interview took 3 fucking hours
Tumblr media
They made me wait for literally 30 minutes until the office manager was done, so it was technically 2 1/2 but Jesus christ. I ended up filling out a bunch of mind game ass quizzes. Like aptitude, IQ, and personality. I did the aptitude one in 3 minutes and apparently, the lady was surprised? She was like "Wait, you finished it and then went back to double-check your answers in 3 minutes?" and I was like "Yes??" Lmao it was a 10-question quiz that was brain-dead. The fucking IQ one fucked me up though, I pretty much skipped or guessed all the math questions. It was 30 minutes for 150 questions so...yikes. Literally filling in answers to the very last second. Also, the answer sheets being dot matrix fucked me up. The personality quiz also had 200 questions, but it made me laugh cause it was so fucking obvious what they were screening for. Like, "Ah that's for autism. Oop that's ADHD and that's sociopath. Oh wow, a narcissism question!" And like 1/3 of the questions were so obviously trying to pin autistic people. I'm looking over this quiz thinking I can tell what you're trying to fucking screen for dipshit, I know this question is a trap.
But apparently, the office manager liked me cause I went to college for medical coding and billing and apparently this job isn't actually for a medical receptionist. It's fucking medical coding and billing as well as insurance adjusting. So like, it's perfectly into my "degree" plus it pays $18 per hour. I'm doing a "working" interview tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I really hope she makes a job offer by at least the end of tomorrow, otherwise, I'm going to have to choose the thrift store. The only downside is that they don't have their own dedicated parking lot, so I'd be looking for street parking all fucking summer.

Hopefully it works out for me, fingers crossed.

Suddenly got a job offer from the thrift store I had an interview with several weeks ago. They're better wages than what the home improvement store was offering ($15.30 vs $16.00) but I have another interview with a medical office that's offering an even higher wage ($18/$20). Plus, my "degree" is in medical coding and billing. While the medical office job is a receptionist and office assistant, it's still much closer to my degree than the thrift. But if the medical office can't give me an offer quickly, I'll have to go with the thrift. The thrift is a much better option than the home improvement place at least.
Tumblr media
But I have to decide this all quickly before they offer the job to someone else...AAAH

UH just looked and apparently, the eclipse is going to be passing through right when I'm driving to my job interview...I'm now a bit nervous to be driving over though, cause I'm concerned dumbshits are going to be super distracted by the eclipse and not pay attention to the road.
Tumblr media
Fingers crossed it's going to be fine...I'll just have to be extra alert.

guys i know you don't want to hear this but "skilled" and "unskilled" labor doesn't refer to how valuable it is or how hard it is to do. it just means whether it requires advance training. a truck driver needs a commercial driver's license (CDL) and thus it is skilled labor. meanwhile managers at a retailer are not considered skilled labor. wildland firefighters are not considered skilled labor. meanwhile, hairstylists in all 50 states are required to have a license; it's skilled labor. it's not arbitrary, it just doesn't refer to the thing you think it does
