very weird for people to get mad at scientists when they provide us better knowledge of how things are. they didn't change anything about it, it was always like that. they didn't change the color of neptune or glue feathers to dinosaurs, those had always been like that regardless of what we thought. the world exist independent of our perception of it. this isn't like a retcon of a fictional work.

Listen if the study of ancient humans doesn’t make you at least a little bit emotional idk what to say.
I started crying today at the museum because they had reconstructed the shoes of Otzi the iceman.
Tumblr media
Either he or someone he knew who cared about him made these shoes out of grass and bear skin and twine and he was wearing them when he died over five thousand years ago.
And a Czech researcher and his students did reconstructions of these shoes and wore them to the same place where he died to test them out and they were like yep! These shoes are really cozy and comfy and didn’t give us blisters while hiking!
Is that not just the coolest shit ever????

No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadows what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence they should be.

The idea of wanting to grow up with a certain console or console era is definitely idealized because there's literally no guarentee that you would have had or even noticed half the games you want to play now that you're aware of as an adult lol. Would your parents have bought an M rated game like Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3 when you were a kid? Would you have even been aware of those games? Would your parents even have been able to afford those games? Would your parents have said no to buying either of them cause your grades sucked at the time? Again, would you have been able to even acquire and play even a portion of those games? Would you have had to rent them because your family was too poor to buy them outright? How long would you have been able to play it rented? People don't think about this shit when they say they want to "grow up" with the PS2 or whatever other console they wish they played lol. You really probably wouldn't want to play a console for its quality library until you were able to have an actual income if we're being real here.

One other aspect of life in the GDR, which had a particularly positive impact on women and their sense of self worth, but which is often neglected, was the absence of mass advertising. Cynics would argue that the country had no advertising because it had no consumer goods worth advertising. While it is true that there was not a superfluity of goods that needed advertising to sell them, there was also a conscious determination not to encourage consumerism as an end in itself. This, of course, meant that women were not continually confronted with impossible role models to aspire to in terms of physical beauty or possessions, and their sexuality was not exploited for promoting sales. Rather than the plethora of women’s magazine stacked high on newsagents’ shelves in the West, with their never-ending fashion and cosmetics tips and cooking recipes, in the GDR women readers were treated as normally intelligent and independent beings with a broad spectrum of interests. The most widely-read women’s magazine, Für Dich, had a circulation of almost a million. Not only were all the journalists working for it, including the editor, women, the stories they featured were about women of the present and the past, of women at work, women artists or sportswomen. Women in the GDR were thus able to navigate society as individuals, on a par with men, and had no pressures on them to conform to any advertiser’s fantasy of the dream woman.

Did you know that your eyes are your body's natural disinfectant? If you're ever out and your hands get really dirty feel free to just rub your eyes really hard! The more you know
