“your siblings definitely couldn’t handle me.” it was true, mostly…not a lot of people particularly enjoyed dealing with her. however, betty really just enjoyed the excuse to spend more time around him without any implications and she didn’t want that with any of his siblings. he had disappeared and, as much as she hates to admit that she gets attached, she started getting scared that he might never come back.
betty gives him a small smile, feeling just slightly guilty for being so quick to snap on him. there was probably a good reason he left and it wasn’t like she was tying him there or anything…they were friends, but that was pretty much it? maybe it wasn’t, but that didn’t matter. “is everything alright? like, at home and all?”

“hell, i dunno if i can handle ya.” he joked. his gaze lingered on his cabin for a moment, before deciding he’d rather spend his afternoon unwinding with betty instead of unpacking. “walk and talk?” he asks, shouldering his bag and moving towards the lake, a place he knew she loved.
“is now. ma got sick there for a second. had to make sure everything was okay and all.” he shrugged, not wanting to dwell much on it. even if it wasn’t as severe as his mind made it out to be, it still scared the hell out of him, seeing his mother like that. it reminded him of how mortal she was... and how he wasn’t.
“was camp absolutely god-awful without my charmin’ smile here?”

“around?” she practically snorted. “you could have at least told me that you were leaving instead of fucking off to hickville, usa without saying a goddamn word. for all i knew, you could have been some monster’s fucking midnight snack out there.”
she wanted to stay angry with him, she would keep making him think she was angry with him, but his stupid, goofy smile made her heart skip a little beat every time she saw it and she just couldn’t stay mad at a face like his. betty realized, perhaps, she was making it a little too obvious that she had, gods forbid, missed seeing him, so she rounded it off with, “and if you’re dead, who the hell am i supposed to commission for my new dagger?”

“please, like you think a monster could get to me.” he shrugged off her insults, knowing they were coming from a place of worry (or so he hoped). his grin didn’t waver, even with the severity of the situation. he knew he should of told someone, told her. but instead, when he got the call from one of the other guys at the shop, he knew he had t go home. immediatly. he barely had time to tell chiron where he was going before he had packed a bag and left.
a laugh bellowed from him, echoing across a quiet camp. “i’m sure one of my siblings could of picked up the duty. i mean, it is just a dagger. even if it is for you.” he teased, picking up his bag from where he had dropped it on the floor. his tone turned slightly more serious, a sad smile still placed on his lips. “i’m sorry i didn’t tell you i was leaving. hell, i didn’t even know i was gonna be leaving.”

betty liked to pretend that she was good at entertaining herself in camp and, for the most part, she could convince herself that she can easily get by on her own. however, reality would suggest that spending all of one’s time smoking weed, sharpening knives, and sleeping is a poor excuse for living. the daughter of hermes would never admit it to out loud, but when people she spent her time bothering left camp, she felt a gaping emptiness…as if at least being annoying was some kind of purpose.
after half a day down by the lake smoking then ultimately sobering up, she was looking forward to some junk food before crashing in her cabin, but naturally, she had to quite literally collide with another person when turning a corner of a cabin. the force almost knocked her straight onto her ass considering the fact that person b was much larger and likely sturdier than her, but she managed to keep her balance. the blonde was just about ready to mumble a sorry and head ff, but one glance at the person she had stumbled into and her eyebrows furrowed, arms moving to cross over her chest.
“where the fuck have you been, caspian?”

the collision didn’t do much but startle him, immediately reaching out to help steady the other person, apologizes already out of his mouth before he could recognize who it was. he grinned, picking up his bag from where it fell on the ground. when he finally locked eyes with her, he couldn’t help but begin smiling. he was hoping to run into her, well, maybe not run.
“well, it’s good to see you too.”
his grin probably wasn’t making the situation any better, noting her very ‘pissed off betty’ stance. still, he missed her. not that he’d ever admit it, sober, at least. he scratched the back of his neck, a bit awkwardly.
“ya know, around. had to go home for a bit.”

things were not all happy in caspian’s world. still, his mom was okay now. the scare didn’t do much to calm his nerves, and he never really wanted to leave her side, even when she went back to work.
yet still, he missed camp. missed a girl. missed his xbox. all the things a man loves.
walking back into camp, an aura of confidence surrounded him, as if the last month of his life hadn’t been some form of hell. he slung his duffel bag over one shoulder, marching between the cabins, waving to younger campers running between activities. he was hoping to see a couple of his friends before he slept for the next week or so in his cabin.
it was a good thing someone stopped him before he could get too far.
