Whump Prompts: Self-Soothing
Content: Honestly, nothing.
Stroking their cheek with their own thumb.
Cupping the side of their face in their own hand / nuzzling into it.
Singing/humming quietly to themself.
Sucking/gnawing on their own thumb.
Rhythmically running their hand through their hair.
Massaging their own scalp.
Rubbing their outer thighs.
Repeating comforting phrases to themself.
Daydreaming about a better place.
Wrapping their arms around themself.
Putting something heavy over themself as a grounding technique (weighted blanket, a pet, etc.)
Rocking back and forth.
Words of affirmation said to themself, shaky and unconfident.
Wrapping themself in a large blanket that makes them feel small and safe.
Cuddling with a hot water bottle.

i never in my life understood the US obsession with The Princess Bride (the movie) and at this point I'm a little afraid to ask.
And if anyone comes to tell me about how the characters and the storytelling yadda yadda -- I read the book. Several times. It was one of my favorite books in childhood. I love The Princess Bride. I think it's an amazing book.
But the movie....? I.... again, aside for nostalgia being the reason, I'm afraid to ask.

I think my stance on dark, problematique content in fanworks should be fairly obvious to anyone who follows me or reads my fic. But just in case, here is my Official Stance for the record.
If you create or consume fanworks featuring dark subjects such as - but not restricted to - rape, sexual violence, and abuse, we’re friends. I don’t need to know why you engage with that content. I don’t need to see your survivor credentials. It’s none of my business if you use fanworks to process your own trauma, or to play out sexual fantasies, or for whatever other reason. As long as you tag your content appropriately so that people can make an informed decision about whether they want to engage with it, we’re good.
If you do not create or consume fanworks featuring dark subjects, but respect other people’s right to do so, we’re friends. I don’t need to know why you don’t engage with that content. Your preferences and why you have them are none of my business. We’re good.
If you shame, name call, or otherwise attack people who enjoy fanworks featuring dark subjects, we are not friends. I don’t care why you think it’s bad. I don’t care if you believe you’re morally correct and that people who enjoy that content are retraumatizing themselves or encouraging real world abuse. You’re wrong, but that’s not the point. The point is that nobody in the history of humanity has ever changed someone’s point of view through attacking them. All you are doing is making yourself feel righteous by hurting and scaring people.
Corollary to the above: if you dismiss or deride people who don’t enjoy dark fanworks, claim they are immature, or lump them in with antis, we are not friends. Grow the fuck up.
If you are an anti, we are not friends.
I’m not going to demand that you block me, because it’s my job to curate my own fandom experience. Feel free to block me if you want to, or don’t, or keep following me so you can read my cute fluff fic while thinking me and my friends are disgusting, you fucking hypocrite. It’s no skin off my nose.
Fiction is not reality. Stop attacking real people to defend fictional characters, and stop pretending you’re anything other than puritans in woke clothing.

i'm the anon from post/704102449647157248/lrj3f7jg777u and it's 4 in the morning and actually, i wanna say—if you have NPD, i love you. i love you, and i'm proud of you, and you are my sibling in brainweirdness (or simply a friend if that's more comfortable; i know the whole sibling schtick is weird for some and i get). it you are incredible and valuable and your contributions are both beautiful and meaningful. the things you create and think about are a wonder. you're brilliant.
you don't deserve the hatred thrown your way. you're right to be upset and defensive—but there are more of us out here, and people who don't have it that understand or are willing to try to understand, and assholes are simply very, very vocal. i love you, and i love our fucked up brains.

Do you ever remember an unfinished and abandoned fic from years ago which touched you so deeply that it still sometimes resurfaces and lingers in your mind?
And you’re just like, dear unknown author, i hope you are doing well, wherever you are. It wasn’t finished but i loved it, thank you for your words.

when two characters are sick at the same time but one is definitely more sick, so the less sick one pushes through their symptoms to do all the things the other one can’t do
shivering with fever chills through outdoor chores that have to get done, knowing that it’ll take ages in front of the fire to get warm again, but they’re the only one strong enough to do them
rationing cold medicine and giving themselves half doses, saving the full doses for the other one
sniffling, wrapped in a blanket, and barely awake in a chair in the corner of the other’s room, trying to stay awake to care for their sicker friend, but their head keeps bobbing and they’re failing miserably
OR them half awake in the middle of the night, still bleary-eyed after their alarm, trying to give the other one medicine, and being so out of it that they have to triple-check that yes, this is the cough syrup
running themselves ragged trying to care for their friend, and when they finally get a minute to themselves they nearly lose it because they’re just exhausted but there’s no one else
standing at the stove, barely upright as they stir the hot broth they’re heating for the both of them
trembling hands trying to spoon feed the weaker one but they just can’t stop shaking
the sicker one seeing them struggling and holding out their arms, beckoning their only slightly less sick friend to lay down and rest with them for a few minutes (or a few hours, if they have anything to say about it)

someone sitting in front of a crackling fire, hair damp from the rain, a thick blanket draped around their shoulders. a hot water bottle’s clutched to their chest, and their feet are soaking in a steaming tub of water. still they shiver, unable to shake the chill they’ve caught. in the next room, someone’s running them a hot bath and preparing a soft bed with clean, dry sheets and warm quilts. closing their exhausted eyes, they slump forward and hug themselves and the water bottle tighter, focusing on the occasional pop of the dry firewood and counting down the minutes until they can finally rest for real.

There’s something about someone else talking about someone being sick that has me feeling some type of way.
“Where’s A?”
“Oh they’re out sick today. Got a bad cold.”
“I’m afraid they’re down for the count…”
“Weren’t feeling well so they decided to stay home.”
And especially when YOU are the one who is saying it, it’s like you have special inside information or something? Like for me at least, it feels like you have this intimate knowledge about someone else. Or like other people come to you to ask because they know y’all hang out.

A is taking a fever nap, while B is reading a book in the same room.
Suddenly A wakes up, with messy hair and fiery red cheeks. They sit up in their blanket nest, and just... stare into the void.
B smiles at them. "Feeling better after your nap?"
A doesn't reply. They just keep staring right in front of them, with heavy lidded, fever bright eyes.
"Hello? Anyone home?" B waves a hand in front of their face, which seems to break the trance. A blinks slowly, confused and just completely out of it.
B huffs, puts down their book and gently cups A's burning cheek.
"Aw, sweetheart, you're not feeling better at all, are you? Come, lay back down. I'll bring you something cold for your head, before your brain starts frying".
