Folks, the Alice Dyer playlist goes hard, and it’s immensely fun to see how not-over-Sam she is, but is anyone else concerned by the number of zombie songs on that bad boy? I get that there’s an undercurrent of “stuck in a dead end job” and “feeling adrift in life” throughout the whole playlist, but three separate zombie songs makes me worry that it might be a little more literal

Thinking about themes of choice vs compulsion and free will vs fate in tmagp and tma. So much of tma was about people forced into these horrifying situations or forced to be avatars, but the subjects in tmagp seem to willingly choose the horror in a lot of the cases we’ve heard so far. Like, Daria in ep 2 chose to keep sculpting herself, Tom in ep 5 willingly walked right into the film, and in ep 9, dice guy said directly he didn’t feel magically “compelled” to roll the dice, just regular old gamblers fallacy hoping for one more good roll. Sam even chose to stroll right up into the Magnus Institute ruins (consequences to be determined).

And sure you could argue about how “willing” any of these choices to engage with the horror really are since we know the Web exists and the entities can manipulate people’s psyches, but still there’s something interesting about how so much of tma felt like falling into a trap and ruing the outcome you didn’t see coming vs how many people at the start of tmagp are just walking right into the horrors of their own “free will” and oftentimes feeling okay about the results
