Productivity guilt is real, and it鈥檚 so hard to do nothing after being conditioned to be productive with every hour (lest we fall behind on school/work/life). I鈥檓 trying to help myself with this as I go into vacation-mode soon, so I hope you all can benefit from this reminder too!聽

Note
do you have any headcanons for syltherins with depression?
I have so many, you have no idea.聽
Tumblr media
I believe that most Slytherins are predisposed to depression and other similar mental illnesses. Slytherins tend to be perfectionists, and as soon as something goes wrong - be it schoolwork, social life, familial responsibilities, or a relationship - they can very easily blame themselves for whatever problem has arisen, which is incredibly unhealthy and can lead to self-loathing. If this cycle continues, the Slytherin could very easily become depressed and resort to unhealthy behavior in order to cope with their situation.聽
Unfortunately, we Slytherins are a stubborn, independent bunch (we鈥檙e not unlike Gryffindors in that respect), and as such we don鈥檛 usually feel comfortable asking for help when we need it - hell, most of the time we won鈥檛 even think we need any help to begin with. This is why friends are important, especially friends from other houses, because people with a different personality type than yours are more likely to see when you鈥檙e in trouble.聽
Tumblr media
Other things that could trigger depression or a similar mental illness in a Slytherin: familial duties (we see an example of this in Half-Blood Prince with Draco Malfoy - family is usually very important to Snakes, and living up to one鈥檚 family鈥檚 expectations can be incredibly stressful); relationships (whether platonic or romantic, if a Snake feels like a relationship is falling apart, panic is usually the first emotional response; Slytherins don鈥檛 have very many close friends, and the thought of losing one could be devastating); schoolwork (a bad grade/mark on a paper can lead to a self-deprecating thought cycle; the Slytherin will tend to focus on what they did wrong instead of what they could do better next time).聽
Important to note: I am not saying that Slytherins are the only Hogwarts students who can suffer from mental illness; a Hufflepuff can be depressed, a Ravenclaw can be bipolar, a Gryffindor can have anxiety, etc. These are just my personal opinions on Snakes with mental illnesses, as a member of said house.
Followers, please stay healthy - if you are a Slytherin (or anyone reading this from another house) who is suffering from a mental illness like depression, please set up a support system (*cough*hufflepuffs*cough*) and make sure to get the help you need when you get low. Remember - you are destined for greatness, and a mental illness doesn鈥檛 change that a bit.聽

Much love,
Sam 聽
