i think it’s really important to establish a really solid base before you start dating someone. By that I mean yall have to have an open and honest system of communication set up between each other and actively use it. It means understanding that every person on this planet communicates in their own unique language and you have to be well versed in your potential partner(s)’ language. like you have to know how they show emotion in general. for example someone asking ‘have you eaten today’ could be their way of saying ‘ i love you a lot and want to make sure you are taking care of yourself’. knowing this will help if you are the type that needs the direct ‘i love you’ and constantly wonder if they actually care about you because you will KNOW how they communicate. Idk i think taking the time to lay out base rules and set up a good solid relationship mock-up will help the actual relationship go smoothly, plus waiting will eventually draw out the negative aspects of a person and you’ll get the chance to see if yall can work through those. and if not then you aren’t dating so it’s a little easier to separate from the person. and even if it doesn’t work you didn’t really waste your time because you gained valuable skills and learned how to do adapt a little better and strengthened your own communication which will help in relationships across the board romantic or otherwise.

as a general rule. if what we’re calling ‘cultural appropriation’ sounds like nazi ideology (i.e. ‘white people should only do white people things and black people should only do black people things’) with progressive language, we are performing a very very poor application of what ‘cultural appropriation’ means. this is troublingly popular in the blogosphere right now and i think we all need to be more critical of what it is we may be saying or implying, even unintentionally.
