Damn were you unlucky at games. You should have never let your roommates trick you into betting to clean the whole apartment for a month if you weren’t able to win this stupid game you’re pretty sure they made up. At the time the cocktails you had assured you it was an easy win but your hangover the next day just called you an idiot for believing it.

Your class ends just before noon and you decide to treat yourself to a nice meal before you go home and start the deed. Your two roommates/traitors/best friends still had classes in the afternoon so since you had the house to yourself you would go ahead and clean before they had the brilliant idea to mock you around for falling into their tricks once again.

As you get home you walk straight to your room to drop your bag. You look around and notice the crazy amount of clothes that desperately need to be washed. You grab a basket you had laying around and put your dirty clothes inside. As you walked to the laundry room you decide to stop by the other rooms to see if your friends also had some clothes to wash.

As you’re about to place your hand on the doorknob of the last room in the corridor you hear a noise coming from inside the room. Did Areum forgot to turn off the stream she spends hours watching on her computer? But then as you step closer it sounds like someone was moaning.

“Do you need a hand on that?” I stumble on my steps startled, I glance backwards struggling with a huge box containing my daily necessities. Jongin widens his hands signaling to hand the box over to him. I shake my head, and continue walking towards bedroom, our bedroom.

He opens the door wide, letting me in and slides his boxes aside making some space for my things. I bow my head thanking him, and let go of the heaviness in my hands. We both stand awkwardly among dozen boxes some opened and some still sealed. He looks around the room, putting his hands in pockets biting his lower lip.

“Seems like bed won’t be ready for today,” he breaks the ice, scratching his hair, “we have to think alternative for today.” His eyes meet mine, I nod my head.

“You can sleep on the couch,” I suggest, pointing towards the couch freshly brought in by movers, “I’ll find a place somewhere and sleep on the floor.”

“What? No!” his eyes widens, “I can’t let you sleep on the floor being the first day,” he closes his mouth, wetting his lips, “being first day of our married life.” He mumbles.

My heart warms at his words, “I don’t have any problem with it,” I smile, pressing his hand, “don’t worry about it.”

Jongin looks at my hand holding his, ears turning slight red. “Where do we have to put this?” worker calls from the hall, Jongin sighs looking at me. I remove my hand from his, “go.”

You woke up with Kai’s mouth on your neck. 

He licked the sensitive skin up to your jaw. Skating his lips higher, he pressed kisses to your sleep laden eyelids. 

His hands sneaked under your pyjama top and squeezed any place they could find - your tummy, breasts, thighs.  

But from the way his searching fingers trembled, you knew something was up. 

“Baby,” you mumbled. “Go back to sleep. Too… early.”

Kai groaned gruffly and started sucking on his favourite spot on your chest. 

You pressed your hand against his bare skin, gasping when you felt his heart racing under your palm. 

“What’s up, baby?” you asked. 

Kai rolled on top of you. He buried his face in the crook of your neck and refused to meet your eyes.

Eventually, the truth slipped out.

“I’m nervous about today.” His voice sent delightful shivers down your body as he spoke. 

You combed your fingers through his messy hair. “You were born for this, Kai. I know you’ll do amazing.”

Kai grazed his teeth across your skin, making you gasp. 

“I… I’ve just never felt this… fear before.” He scrunched your pyjama top in his fist and squeezed his eyes shut. 

Parting your legs instinctively, you let Kai rest his hips against yours. Your cheeks warmed when you realised he wasn’t wearing any boxers. 

Your fingers danced across his muscular back. “Do you want me to help you relieve your stress?” 

Kai snapped his head up to look into your eyes, his mahogany irises twinkling. You could feel his excitement growing. 

“You’re amazing, you know,” he said.  

You chuckled, still not used to his compliments, even after five months of dating. 

Kai kept his gaze locked on yours as he reached between you and pulled down your pyjama bottoms… 

“Can I stay here forever?” Kai half sighed, half moaned.

You tucked your legs around his waist. “Baby… I’ll be right there backstage, cheering you on.”  

“I love you,” Kai said, leaning down to kiss you. 

You kissed him back, moving your hips to meet his, as the two of you found your rhythm.  

“I love you too.”

Given your present work commitments, matters of the heart took a backseat. Heading a high-profile acquisition project was no easy feat. It came with its fair share of all-nighters, working weekends, team lunches and dinners and many skipped meals. You hardly had the time to discuss the happenings of that night with Jongin. While your immediate reaction to his breakdown stopped you from leaving, you decided to ditch the martyr act. Despite his impropriety and downright rude behavior, you had chosen to stay – liberating you from everything you thought you owed him.

To you, this façade of friendship had finally met its rightful end.

Jongin, on the other hand, was barely managing to keep it together. Every time you paid no heed to his gaze trying to meet yours, his heart sank. Summoning courage, he tried to apologize to you in person - multiple times. But always found you feigning an important business call or coming up with a lousy reason to excuse yourself out of the room. [8:44 AM] “Jongin you better be paying attention!” Jongdae quietly scolds, trying to not get in trouble from the professor at the front of the room. Jongin lays on his textbook, spinning his finger against the pages. “I can’t stop thinking about her,” he pouts and his face turned a light shade of pink. Jongdae raises a brow and asks, “Who are you thinking about?”

“Her,” Jongin lightly points at the you, who was taking notes as the professor was talking. Jongdae smiles at Jongin’s fazed face and continues taking notes himself. The bell then rings and students slowly start to get out of the classroom one by one and Jongdae packs up his bag. He hears Jongin sigh and looks over at him. He was still in the same position as before. Jongin was smiling at you while you were laughing at something your friend had said. Jongdae smiles to himself at how in love Jongin looked and smacked the back of his head, signaling him to pack up.

The first time he saw you, he knew he had to have you. You were walking down the street with your friends, the biggest smile on your face with the streetlights giving you an almost ethereal glow. You looked like an angel. You looked like pure light – everything that Kāi was not.

He didn’t know where he came from, or how, all he knew was that he just… was. His memories were a mess, all jumbled up and some missing. What he did know was that he was not like other people. He looked nothing like the men he saw walking down the streets and whenever someone saw him, they ran away like they had seen a monster. So he wondered if that was what he really was… a monster.

But he wanted to be near you. He wanted to be with you. So he took a chance. He had been following you for a while from a distance, hoping he could get you alone. By now, he knew where you worked and where you lived, but he didn’t want to corner you and make you feel hunted. He didn’t want you to be scared of him.

It was late evening time and you were heading home from work, walking down the deserted streets. Kāi observed you from his hiding spot in the shadows. His heart was hammering away and his palms felt sweaty. This was it, he was going to try and talk to you.

Slowly, he took a small step out of the shadows but he hesitated. He stopped. He couldn’t do it. Not to you. Following you around like that? He knew it was wrong. It was scary.

You came closer and he quickly slipped back into the shadows, pressing himself against the alley wall so you wouldn’t see him.

[10:03 am] “Kai, honey~” I call sweetly, holding my hands behind my back as I approach him at the dinner table. He turns to me and immediately puts his cup of coffee back down, focusing on me and me only. “What is it?” Kai asks, smiling at my visible happiness. I stop and stand only a few feet away from him, chewing on my lip my lip as I plan out how I’m going to give him his birthday gift. I fiddle with the present behind my back before taking a deep breath. “You know how we’ve been trying for a baby for the past couple of months?” I start, watching his face closely. He nods slowly, unsure of what I’m going to say. “And all the false positives we’ve gotten?” I continue on, watching as his face changes as the disappointing memories flood his mind again. He nods slowly, this time with a hint of sadness. “Well, I think this time..” I hold up the positive pregnancy test. “I’m actually pregnant.” I announce, a huge grin on my face. Instantly, Kai stands up and starts walking towards me. “A-are you serious?” He asks incredulously, unable to believe we actually might’ve done it. I nod and he envelopes me in a tight hug, chuckling in shock. Those chuckles quickly turning to happy sobs. I hug him back as he plants kisses all over my face and neck, tears welling up in my eyes as well. Kai pulls away and just smiles at me, happy tears streaming down his face. I wipe them away and give him a kiss on the lips, my heart feeling overwhelmed with love for this man. Kai buries his face in my neck, rubbing my tummy lovingly. “I can’t believe it.. I’m so happy...”

"Yes mom! I have prepared everything! Don't you trust your daughter?!" You whine.

Your mom releases a chuckle at that,"Hmm, good"

You were talking to your mom on the phone. You and your mom lived in completely different countries.

You had shifted to South Korea after marriage, and your mom stayed in Malaysia.

You both used to meet during Christmas every year but this year you both couldn't meet. So she was helping you prepare the New year's dinner on the phone.

You were dying to meet her. But not everything goes according to the expectations, at least that is what you said to yourself.

"Y/n?" Your mom's voice breaks your trail of thoughts.

"Hmm?" You respond, engrossed in decorating the cake.

"Is Kai coming back home for New year?" She asks in a low voice.

The mention of his name makes your heart ache.

"I doubt that, he isn't picking up my calls from past few weeks" you say, tearing up a little.

"Hmm, he must be busy, don't overthink, ok?" She says.. "He will be back" she doesn't sound that firm and you feel your eyes watering.

"Ok, ma, I will call you later, ok bye!" You say, your heart clenching violently.

"Y/n-" you hang up the call before letting her speak.

You let your tears fall, while you grip the kitchen counter to balance yourself.

Your mom knows better than to call you back.

Kai hasn't picked up any of your calls for a month.

You tell yourself that he must be busy, that he will be fine, you remind yourself that he loves you, that he will be back.. right?

But everytime you find yourself crying terribly at the thought of things going wrong.

You cry again, like you do everyday.

You miss him again, like you do everyday.

You try to call him, like you do everyday.

But he never picks up.

You set the food on the dinner table, waiting for your neighbors and friends to turn up so that you all could have the New year's dinner together.

While sitting on the chair and waiting for them, you find yourself going back to 2017's New year dinner..

It had become a ritual for you and Kai, to invite both of your friends and the neighborhood to this celebration.

You think of the time when Kai was here with you.

"Happy New year!!" Everyone cheered.

Kai pulled you closer by your waist..

"Happy New year, my love.." he whispered in your ear.

"Happy New year…" you responded back, connecting your lips together.

You both kissed each other softly.

Kisses with Kai were always so comforting.. he made sure that you both were enjoying them.

"Yo Kai! Don't make us feel lonely!" One of his friends yells at him.

You blush at that and Kai smiles wider.

"Mark, don't worry! I am sure that you will die alone" he yells back and you release a loud chuckle at that.

You smile sadly at the memory but you flinch as soon as you hear the bell ring.

Expecting your friends to be here, you open the door with a small smile which vanishes the second you open the door.

You widen your eyes as you didn't expect the person that you were crying for from 3 years..

"Kai?!!" You yell in disbelief, eyes watering and your one hand covering your mouth as you see him in the military uniform.

He is holding a bouquet of roses and white lilies. It's your favourite..

He suddenly puts his cap on your head and kneels down to hand you the bouquet.

You are still in shock, as you accept the bouquet.

He chuckles at your expression.

You let out a squeal when he suddenly picks you up and walks inside the house.

You realise that this isn't a dream and you break into a wide smile, as you put your arms around his neck.

"Happy New year-" you hear the voice of your friends shouting.. but it stops as soon as they see Kai.

"Oh my fucking god!! Kai?! Is that really you?!" They squeal as they gather around you both.

You both are currently in the bath, naked.

You have your back on his chest and he has his arms wrapped around you.

Normally, the crowd wouldn't leave so easily, they would have stayed over like they did for the past 3 years, but seeing that your husband was back home, they knew that you both needed privacy, so they left earlier than usual.

You feel yourself crying again, as you remember what you had gone through without him by your side.

"Y/n?" He glances at your face to find you crying. "Y/n! What happened?! Why are you crying?!"

"Because of you idiot!" You respond while wiping your tears.

"Me? What did I do?" He asks, while having a cute pout on his lips, and you coo at him as you kiss his cheeks.

"It doesn't matter anymore" you say and he relaxes.

"What matters is you are here now, in my arms, and nothing else matters.." you say as you lean into his touch.

"Hmm" he hides his face in the crook of your neck.

You were just delighted to have him back home.
