I think The Eye might have special properties like The Web does.

I think it’s useful to contextualize The Entities as Leitner does: parts of a whole body. In many ways The Web is Fear’s mind, able to somewhat think and plan and see, as demonstrated by, well, everything apparently.

This is spurred by the fact that The Magnus Institute doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t generate fear, it only records it. Sure, giving statements doesn’t exactly leave someone unharmed, but it’s far from proactive, and it seems that just those who directly give The Archivist statements get the nightmares, which is even more inefficient. And as demonstrated by season 5, anything not generating fear isn’t useful to the entities. Yes it does house The Archivist, but it does seem from Jon’s little America adventure (among other little adventures) that he is neither integral to its function -although important- nor is it integral to his function.

So what purpose does it serve? Here’s my theory :

If the Web is analogous to its brain, The Eye is the mouth. It’s that old question- if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around, does it make a sound?

What would be the point in trying to make a rock afraid? It can’t perceive, it can’t fear. But if you give the rock sentience, then suddenly it can see its predicament, fear its situation. And now there’s fear to devour. The key difference is perception, and fear in perception is the domain of The Beholding.

Currently relistening to tma so i can get into tmp properly and I was just wondering if you got any inspiration for the spiral from Junji Ito's Uzumaki. I read it a few days ago and couldn't help but see a few similarities. It could just be because it's got a lot of spirals and all but the mind bending way the spiral would effect the town Kurouzu-cho seemed similar, especially when I listened to the episode about the Gabriel the clay worker and the man on the stair. I love your work btw it's great :3 currently reading through the thirteen storeys and I'm getting the family business soon too yay
