Skam Thoughts

I think one of the big themes of Skam that no one talks about is the pervasiveness of American culture. Prominent examples would be the "Pepsi Max" girls, "I'm Yours" from the cabin trip in season one, the use of English phrases by multiple characters, or that Even's and Isak's favourite music are American hip-hop artists. Hell, rewatch evak's first hangout scene, apart from the language they could easily be American teenagers (or near any English speaking country). While probably unintentional, it demonstrates how far and wide our culture can spread. It's interesting to me too how once spread, art and cultural works can return and in new forms. Like rock and roll returning renewed to America in the British Invasion, do you think an East Coast rapper thought in the '90s that his music and catchphrase would become so closely tied to a season of television about a gay, Norwegian teenager?
