Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep13 - Decisions
I’ve reached the season finale. It was a bit harder than I thought it would be but I’m hoping that like with most shows it gets better on the second season. I think one of the things that bug me about it is how Meta it tries to be without any hint of irony to it.
Pacey’s brother really confuses me. Sometimes he talks about Pacey in such an incredibly negative way that makes him very unlikable but then he comes into this episode and he does seem genuinely concerned about his brothers future even though the delivery of that concern fell short. There was another wonderful Joey and Pacey moment in this episode. Even though they tend to antagonize each other, I adore the moments when they are real friends towards each other.
Well even though I’m not happy about it Dawson finally made his choice by kissing Joey. Let’s see how this will go in season 2. I think this one gets a 7/10

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep12 - Beauty Contest
Dawson finally woke up and noticed Joey and I love the fact the she was strong enough to know that he wanted her for the wrong reasons at that moment and told him no. That is probably one of the best Joey moments so far I always appreciate women knowing what they want and not settling for anything less.
Pacey breaking down gender stereotypes is amazing we all love a secure and confident man without needing to cross into Neanderthal territory.
Jen and Joey has some great potential friendship moments this episode it just saddened me that the potential there is going to be squashed by Dawson again.
I think I’ll give this one a 6/10

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep8 - Boyfriend
I honestly do not have a lot to say about this episode. We got a nice little look into more of Jen’s past, and I always love getting to know more about her life in New York. Even though I enjoyed seeing more of her past life the arrival Billy as truly confirmed the fact that Jen has some questionable taste when it comes to boys, neither option is decent. Jen choosing to take the time to work on herself and take time away from boys was amazing and i applauded her for it.
Was there anyone else giving a massive sigh when Joey thought that Dawson was the one who saved her because I just wanted to flip a Monopoly board. The Pacey and Joey friendship shining through this episode was gold I treasure every single one of these moments knowing what is to come for them in later seasons. I also rejoiced at Pacey finally calling Dawson on his shit with being so incredibly oblivious when it comes to Joey and her feelings.
Basically just considered this a small filler episode with not much to talk about so I think this warrants a 6/10. Also replayed the part of Pacey keeping the baby quiet, we all love a couple of cuties having a decent time.

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep7 Detention
Oh the Breakfast Club episode how I do love a good John Hughes reference. This is honestly my favorite episode of Season 1, it’s got all the teen angst that a show like this should have but it’s got the perfect amount of humor to break it up enough for me.
This is the introduction to the ultimate shit stirrer (AKA Abby Morgan) getting everyone to kiss each other, I appreciate her in a weird way. There were just so many great things about this episode with Jen finally confronting Joey about her terrible attitude towards her and even being pretty graceful the reason is because Joey likes her boyfriend.
I also really did like Joey in this episode. Her being a total badass and hitting those guys (violence is never the answer no matter how cool it was kids). The scene where she really breaks down over having feelings for Dawson and just seeing the confusion and pain this is causing her written all over her face was beautiful, Katie Holmes did an amazing job in this scene, it just really pulls on the heart strings.
I really loved all the weird tension between Dawson and Pacey this episode and while I do think Dawson is pretty shitty when it comes to Pacey I really enjoyed him kind of freaking out and kind of threatened by him. One of my favorite things about this episode has got to be the Mighty Ducks reference by Pacey it kills me every time I watch it. One of my favorite things about Joshua Jackson is that he makes references to his previous works in a lot of his other shows/movies and it gives me life.
I think I’ll give this one a 9/10. And can I just mention how horrible the teachers are in this episode like why are they all class 1 douche bags?

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep6 - Baby
The Pacey/Tamara thing is finally over. While I’d do think that this relationship really helped his character mature and for Pacey to grow confidence in himself I am glad that it is done now. And yes I do have my objections about the relationship in a whole there were some great moments for them this episode. Pacey really pulled through with the school and even though he knew he’d be tarnishing his own reputation he still stuck up for Tamara by denying their affair. I also love how she praised Pacey to his brother and wouldn’t let him continue to say such horrible things about them.
I loved that this episode brought on a more tender moment between Pacey and Joey because so far we haven’t been given anything to even suggest that they are really even friends so I liked seeing that. I also really enjoyed the Joey/Bessy moments in this episode between them bickering and Joey finally being there for her sister in her time of need. I genuinely laughed at their moment on the boat trying to get to Dawson’s house.
I genuinely enjoyed this episode and Grams is just continuously giving these awesome badass woman moments that I live for so I’m giving this one an 8/10.

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep5 - Hurricane
The affair is finally out in the open now and I’m interested to see the fall out from an older me’s perspective now. While I’m glad that everything is finally said and done I don’t understand why she felt it was necessary for Dawson to be a part of that conversation. I get that it’s something that affects his life but she is about to destroy her husbands’ entire life I would hope she had the decency to let him deal with that in a private moment away from his own son. It just seemed like an extra layer of cruelty for me. At the end of the episode when she give the reason for cheating is absolutely heartbreaking though and is honestly my biggest fear about marriage. Her husband did absolutely everything right and together they built the life she wanted but because she no longer wanted for anything she became restless and made the decision to destroy everything she had.
And while throughout the entire episode Dawson just continued to make an ass of himself at least he finally stopped using his butt as a hat long enough to apologize to both Jen and Joey. The final scene between Joey and Dawson was everything that I want their relationship to be a true and genuine friendship and I wish that that could be how it stays even though I know it won’t.
I did really like getting even just this small glimpse into what Pacey’s home life might be like from his relationship with his brother. I couldn’t help but laugh about the gay comments considering I’m fairly certain the end of the series he ends up with Jack. But I might be wrong I can’t quite remember but I think that would be a great moment of irony.
I think I’ll give this episode a solid 6/10.

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep4 - Discovery
FINALLY!!! I am four episodes in and there has been one small sliver of a moment that I didn’t find Dawson completely useless. This moment I’m talking about is the interaction he has with Pacey when he finds out it was Pacey that was with Ms. Jacobs in the video. Him genuinely being a friend to Pacey and being there for him and even giving his friend the small affirmation when he was feeling insecure about his first time having sex, I was here for it.
That being said Dawson immediately ruined it by becoming the type of man that I can’t stand. The type of guy who thinks he’s the good guy but is really so arrogant and self absorbed that he can’t even fathom something that isn’t in his own worldview. I’m talking about how after Jen opens up to him about her past, that she isn’t the innocent virgin he wants, he completely shuts her down and made it clear that because of her previous experiences she is somehow less than now or impure. The writers of this show may have tried to make it seem that because of his shifting home life it makes up for it but that is something that honestly disgusts me and I just can’t.
I did really like Jen in this episode, we got a little bit more of a confirmation about her past that was really just an assumption till now and more development in her relationships outside of Dawson. I’ve always loved the while loving but still slightly antagonistic relationship she has with her grandmother it’s always been my favorite to watch. The scene she had with Joey this episode was great as well I am always a big fan of strengthening female relationships in media and even though I know they don’t quite figure it out from what I’ve seen I will cherish these small moments they get where the two leading ladies are being kind and supportive towards each other.
That all for that one a pretty enjoyable episode with a few nice moments so I’ll give this one a 7/10

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep3 - Kiss
3 episodes in and I still can’t find a single thing to like about the main character. I don’t know if it’s my own prejudices against him or if it’s something other people have thought as well but I just can’t find anything about him that is anywhere near leading man material. I mean just between his sheer obliviousness to the world around him and the ludicrous boarderline disgusting lengths he’ll go to to get everything the way he wants I just can’t like him. Honestly I have no idea how Jen can still be interested in someone trying to film a private moment like that to satisfy his own weird neurosis.
I will say that I loved seeing Joey reach a bit more into her feminine side and really notice a boy outside of Dawson. Her storyline really makes this episode. Her small moment in time with this boy she only just met and knows she most likely will never see again is heartwarming and truly beautiful. I’ve always been a sucker for having an instant connection with someone and even though it’s short in time can leave a person with something they may have needed to learn, and that’s kind of how I see this episode for Joey. That while it may not have been a lasting romance I think it gave her the validation that she can be wanted and liked by someone outside of Dawson and that he isn’t the end all be all.
Pacey is still by far my favorite character that while he may just seem like the comedic relief he has these vulnerable and tender moments that make him the most relatable to me.
Overall I enjoyed this episode but nothing that made it spectacular by any means so I think I’ll give this one a 7/10

Dawson’s Creek S1 Ep2 - Dance
I didn’t quite like this episode as much as I did the first one it felt like it kind of dragged on unnecessarily but I really think it is 100% due to that fact that Dawson is so hard to like. If I’m being honest I think the reason I stopped watching it the first time only a couple seasons in was because the main character was really hard to care about but I’m determined to watch the entire show this time so I’m hoping that in the next few episodes one of the characters give me enough to stick around and route for.
Joey definitely made steps in redeeming herself in my eyes this episode. I love that scene between her and Jen talking about insecurities with their bodies, it was nice to see a softer side of Joey and it was a great moment of women who are absolutely gorgeous but are still human who can have issues with their confidence as well. Joey was also a total badass in the moment with her and Dawson’s mom telling her the hard and ugly truth of the consequences of her actions, with this moment I think it really strengthened her character in the fact that she would fight against something she sees as wrong even with someone she may care about but it also gave a little insight on why she may be so cold and seemingly emotionally distant from the world due to her past family issues.
One of my favorite moments of the episode is the kissing talk between Dawson and his father. I am a total sucker for open and honest relationships between a parent and their child it’s something so rarely seen but I cherish every time I do see one. I’m very much looking forward to more moments of Dawson feeling comfortable enough to actually initiate an awkward conversation like that with one or both of his parents.
I’d also like to state that even though I hate the student/teacher relationship I think that Pacey is smooth as shit and I can’t believe he couldn’t get any of the girls his own age at that school because the way he is “seducing” Tamara is honestly impressive.
So those are my thought on episode 2 I love the beginning being all about Joey not wanting to kiss Pacey when I know that they eventually become the couple everyone talks about from this show. But anyway I think I’ll only give this episode a 5/10 since I really didn’t think a lot of it was necessary.

Dawson’s Creek Season 1 Episode 1
So I just watched the first episode of Dawson’s Creek and I have to say it was a pretty good opener for the show. Even though I’ve seen at least the first 2 seasons before it has been awhile so it was nice going back and seeing the beginning. I also really need to applaud the show for really setting up the show and the characters so well in just the first episode. They did a great job of giving all of the main characters enough time to get a good sense of who they are and who they will be for the show including just enough back story for both Joey and Jen to make them more interesting than just 2 girls who may or may not like the same boy and I think that was fantastic.
One of the things that I don’t like about this show is the overused friend zone storyline that almost every show uses at some point, now I know it’s a common trope for a reason and it’s supposed to bring in conflict but honestly I feel like most shows force it and end up destroying what could have been an amazing friendship like with Joey and Dawson. I would have loved for them to truly just be best friends and maybe later on realize some sort of feeling for each other but as it is with Joey being incredibly immature in her jealousy and Dawson’s completely oblivious nature towards his best friend make them both hard to like in this first episode.
In this first episode Jen has got to be my favorite character so far. From her dealing with her grandfather’s health and the obvious tension due to fundamental differences between herself and her grandmother she is by far the most sympathetic of the main four so far. And her trying so hard to form some type of connection with Joey the entire episode really does make me like her even more that she is not trying to be the typical antagonistic girl that she very well could have been.
Pacey has my favorite moment of this episode when he just goes in on Tamara/Ms. Jacobs. When he just lays into her about leading him in just to make herself feel better I had to give him a few claps for standing up for himself. Although I really like that scene I do have to say that the student/teacher trope in what almost feels like every teen drama is really gross I get that it happens but all of these shows romanticise the relationships instead of showing what it is at face value of a grown adult in a position of power taking advantage of a child because that is what he is a 15 year old boy. I’ve actually started a list to see how many of the shows I watch are going to have those type of relationships.
But my ranting is over and this is my first review. I really enjoyed this so I think I will keep going one post per episode hopefully they won’t all be so long winded as this.
Over all I did really like this episode and the last scene with Dawson shouting “Usually in the morning” to Joey was super cute I loved their smiles to each other so at the end of this I think this episode deserves a 7/10 from me.

First Show
For the first show I’m deciding to tackle and put here I’ve decided to go with Dawson’s Creek. This show is a bit before my time but has always been on my radar and something I’m very excited to watch. Now I’ve seen I think the first 2 seasons a long time ago but I’ve never finished it and I’m really looking forward to finally finishing this series.
Now I’m not really sure how I want to do these review/commentary type posts if I want to write one for every episode or just a highlight of what I think of each season I’ll see whichever way will work the best for me. It may also change depending on the show itself, because trust me I have a very long list of shows that both me and my sister picked out of things we definitely want to watch or shows we aren’t very excited about but feel we need to. So it all may depend on how I’m feeling about each show.
I may also do a few different shows at once because sometimes with the longer shows I’ll blow through a couple seasons in a short amount of time then kind of lose interest so on anything more than 4 season I may do 2 seasons than watch like a 1 season show then go back just to break it up a bit. But anyway I truly looking forward to my first pick, Dawson’s Creek.
