VITAMIN A AND YOUR THYROID Just like selenium and iodine, vitamin A is juat as important for a healthy thyroid. Like anything else, this does not mean that you NEED to supplement with it. Depending on your physiological state, too little Vitamin A causes just as many problems as too much. Vitamin A… 👉🏻Is required for the activation of thyroid hormone receptors 👉🏻AND thyroid hormone are required for the conversion of cholesterol into steroidal hormones 👉🏻Is required for a healthy immune system by optimizing WBC function 👉🏻Is needed for the absorption of calcium 👉🏻Runs iron metabolic along with copper ❌Too much actually decrease thyroid function. ❌Too little increases the pituitary glands production of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), increases the size of the thyroid gland and reduces uptake of iodine by the thyroid. To make things more complicated, sluggish thyroid function may impair the conversion of carotenes to true vitamin A creating a double-whammy scenario for a healthy thyroid. This is important because not all vitamin A is the same. Vitamin A is approximately 20 time more bioavailable in animal based food than plant food, which is what you will find in supplements. Plant foods don’t actually have any vitamin A, they have carotenoids which have to be converted to Vitamin A. . . #thyroidhealing #thyroidhealth #hypothyroiddiet #vitamina #betacarotene #retinol #thyroidissues #thyroidproblems #restorationthyroidnutrition #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas https://www.instagram.com/p/B0Q-B77g87Y/?igshid=18t1pay73vcfi

THE BODY CANNOT HEAL WHEN LOCKED IN A STATE OF SURVIVAL If there is one thing the last 12 years of observational research and working with tens of thousands of people world-wide has taught us is, almost EVERYONE is locked into a physiological state of survival. Some know it, others do not. Some feel it, others do not. Regardless, it is happening and we want you to know, if this is true for you, NO supplement is going to change that. You can also be very CERTAIN the removal of an essential macronutrient is going to make it worse.  How this will manifest for any one person is the unknown. These approaches are NOT sustainable and do not work. How do you know it’s happening to you? If you suffer from low energy, insomnia, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, mood issues (anxiety, irritability, depression, etc.), hanger or hypoglycemia, skin issues, etc. chances are your energy systems have gone awry and you are living in this physiological state of survival/stress. What’s the solution? Regulate your blood sugar which will then reduce the burden being placed on the adrenals, increase thyroid hormone conversion, increase energy production, increase digestive function, regulate the nervous system and CREATE THE PERFECT ENVIRONMENT FOR HEALING TO TAKE PLACE. Restoration Thyroid Nutrition (RTN) Group Coaching Program is designed specifically to teach you how to do this so you CAN create a nutritional foundation that supports and heals you! Humans are highly adaptable, meaning, just as we have adapedt into a state of chronic stress (when given the right environment), we can just as easily adapt out of stress (when given the right environment). . #restorationthyroidnutrition #thyroidhealing #thyroidhealth #hypothyroiddiet #thyroiddiet #thyroidproblems #thyroidissues #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas https://www.instagram.com/p/B0OkVMcAv5t/?igshid=86c96wvoryma

BEYOND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION Female hormone balancing gets more attention then male hormone balancing, so we thought we’d share some insight on this ‘not so hot topic. Lets dive in.. Thyroid hormone deficiency affects all tissues of the body, including multiple endocrine changes that alter growth hormone, corticotrophin, glucocorticoids, and gonadal function. Primary hypothyroidism is associated with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, a condition in which the body does not produce enough of testosterone. There are two types of hypogonadism: 1️⃣ Primary: Also known as primary testicular failure – originates from a problem in the testicles. 2️⃣ Secondary: Indicates a problem in the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland – parts of the brain that signal the testicles to produce testosterone. The hypothalamus produces the gonadotropin releasing hormone, which signals the pituitary gland to make the follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. The luteinizing hormone then signals the testes to produce testosterone. Either type of hypogonadism may be caused by an inherited trait or something that happens later in life as a result of chronic stress, injury or an infection. Anytime there is chronic stress and inflammation, you will see a decrease in testosterone. The length of time you are in this state will dictate whether you are in Primary vs Secondary Hypogonadism. Anything that affects the Hypothalamus, the Pituitary gland and/or the Adrenal glands has a direct effect on the release of thyroid hormone. In other words, if you are a man who struggles with erectile dysfunction and/or low libido you don’t have a testosterone issue, you have an HPA axis issue (Secondary Hypogonadism) causing a thyroid issue, causing a testosterone issue. Taking TRT in this case will push you in into Primary Hypogonadism. When LH is low and testosterone is low, the testes are not receiving the necessary signal resulting in no testosterone production. This means that if you regulate your thyroid, your testosterone levels will automatically regulate. . #testosterone #testosteronereplacementtherapy #thyroidhealth #thyroidissues #hypothyroidism #hypogonadism #stressedstate https://www.instagram.com/p/B0GevnOAVuZ/?igshid=ajjmrb87c54z

SUGAR AND YOUR BRAIN Glucose is the primary source of energy for every cell in the body. Your 🧠 , being the most energy demanding organ in your body, guzzles up nearly half of all the sugar energy in the body. So what happens to your brain when your body is sugar starved? 👉🏻 Your memory is not as sharp and you struggle with poor attention and cognitive function. In most cases symptoms of anxiety, exhaustion, insomnia and depression are also associated with being sugar starved. Glucose feeds the brain and inflammation damages it. Glucose is our brains primary source of fuel and vital for balanced brain chemistry and prevention of “early brain breakdown.” If you ever experience being spacey, lightheaded, shaky or irritable during your day it is because your brain is communicating to you that you need fuel,  your blood sugar is low and glucose is not getting to the brain cells. We know life is busy and we know this is what is making most people “sick”, Unfortunately, because people are so consumed in the busy-ness of life it is the very things they are doing - skipping meals, living on caffeine, eating processed-high sugar carbohydrates, not eating enough protein, over exercising, under exercising, under eating, over eating-  creating the fatigue during the day, the insane cravings, the dependence on caffeine to sustain a day, irritability and poor memory. How can you support your brain with sugar…. ✔️Eat a balanced breakfast with metabolic carbs, proteins and fats ✔️Never eat carbs, proteins or fats by themselves ✔️Avoid fruit and vegetable juices ✔️Limit caffeine intake to always after a meal ✔️If you struggle, eat small meals every ‪2-3hrs‬ ✔️Do not eat sweets or starchy foods prior to bed #brainfuel #sugar #feedthebrain #glucoseisfuel #thyroidfoods #thyroidhealth #restorationthyroidnutrition #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas https://www.instagram.com/p/B0EG2c-AfuC/?igshid=kesxaczqa2vp

THE GENERAL GUIDELINE ON HOW LONG IT SHOULD TAKE TO HEAL.... We have all been mis-lead into believing this insane idea that after suffering with health issues for multiple years, in some cases, decades, we should feel better in 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, etc. When in all reality, here is the general guideline. For every year you have not been feeling well, it takes about one month of rebuilding and repair. This means if you have not been feeling well for the last 10years then it would take approximately ten months for the body to regulate itself back to optimal function ....AND about another 4 years to completely repair from its exposure to toxins and stresses. . . #thyroidhealth #thyroidhealing #thejourney #focusonthejourney #hypothyroiddiet #restorationthyroidnutrition #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas   https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz8fCnUAepV/?igshid=1jg3dowu71ccw

LIVER HEALTH IS KEY TO THYROID CONVERSION A healthy functioning thyroid produces approximately 80% T4 and about 20% T3. T3 being the active thyroid hormone is produced from T4 within the tissues, particularly by your liver, heart, kidneys, muscle, brain, skin, and, when applicable, the placenta. Thyroid hormone is the only hormone in the body that effects every single cell/tissue/organ making this conversion imperative for optimal health and balance within all the bodily systems. What interrupts thyroid hormone conversion? Chronic stress. Present or past, felt or not felt. Anytime the body experiences stress, there is a need for more energy (sugar). If we don’t have that energy stored in the liver and muscles as a result of the body being locked in chronic stress, thyroid function is bogged down significantly effecting all the organs of digestion including the liver resulting in “sluggish liver” and the inability of the body to convert T4 to T3. In addition, the liver cannot properly break down and eliminate hormones, which will filter back into the blood stream and make their way back to the liver, which is very toxic. This is especially true for estrogen. Elevated re-circulating estrogen will not only affect thyroid hormone conversion, but will create too many thyroid binding proteins, so that thyroid hormone cannot get to our cells. So how to we outsmart stress and all the above in a simplified way 👉🏻 Blood sugar regulation. Provide the body the nourishment it needs, when it needs it, to meet the demands your life has on your body. When you do you will successfully reduce stress, increase thyroid conversion, recover digestive health and function and balance your hormones. #thyroidhealth #liverhealth #thyroidproblems #thyroidissues #stressedout #stressedthyroid #hypothyroiddiet #bloodsugarbalance #eastwesthealing #restorationthyroidnutrition #realfoodgangstas https://www.instagram.com/p/BzyGUVdAEoa/?igshid=jvqean6sdr44

BEWARE OF IODINE AND TYROSINE FOR THYROID HEALTH If you have been on a journey to heal your thyroid gland, chances are you have come across the idea of supplementing with tyrosine and iodine, unfortunately it is never that straight forward or simple. The information below offers great examples as to why you cannot treat the body in a “this for that” manner. Dr. Datis Kharrazian PhD states, “iodine stimulates the activity of thyroid peroxidase enzyme, which triggers thyroid hormone production. Hence why so many thyroid supplements contain iodine. For most people with Hashimoto’s, TPO also happens to be the site of autoimmune attack, and surrounding thyroid tissue is damaged in the process. So everytime TPO production is stimulated, the immune system, which perceives TPO as a foreign invader to be eradicated, responds more aggressively and amps up the attack. Supplementing with it has been shown to trigger autoimmune thyroid conditions, and will also exacerbate an existing autoimmune thyroid disease, such as Hashimoto’s.” “Tyrosine is an integral part of thyroid hormone production, but supplementing with it has the potential to suppress thyroid activity. Tyrosine will increase the adrenal hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline that create that wired, energetic feeling, which may feel like progress when a person has been plagued with the fatigue and fogginess of hypothyroidism. However, for the person in an elevated stress response, this stimulating effect on the adrenals will also suppress TPO activity and, consequently, thyroid hormone production, just as caffeine and other adrenal stimulants do.” . . #thyroidhealth #thyroidsupport #thyroidsupplements #iodinedeficiency #tyrosine #datiskharrazian ##restorationthyroidnutrition #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas   https://www.instagram.com/p/BzszMuKAxgZ/?igshid=1izk45smp44xl

WHY ARE YOU INTOLERANT TO DAIRY Dairy…good for you, bad for you? This will always depend on who you ask or what you read….bottom line - it ALL depends on the HUMAN BEING in question. We also have to look closely at the quality of the dairy (where it comes from, what the cattle are eating, the amount of exercise and sunlight they receive, etc.). Most dairy comes from factory cattle that are fed an unnatural diet. They are not allowed to move around, they get little to no sunlight and are treated with tons of antibiotics and hormones. NO ONE should be consuming conventional dairy or animal protein! Raw, organic and/or locally dairy products are all we recommend. Unfortunately, for some, this won’t be enough until the state of the digestive system in healed. Secondly, most dairy contains added synthetic vitamins A and D. These can become allergens but also cause Vitamin A or even D toxicity. Lastly and probably the most common… Absence of an enzyme: Enzymes allow us to digest foods and without them, digestion is undermined. Being lactose intolerant has nothing to do with dairy itself, BUT everything to do with the lack of an enzyme (lactase) in your small intestine. Tips… 👉🏻If you are sensitive to diary, don’t eat or drink it. Give your body time to heal. 👉🏻Work with A2 milk once you decide to add it back in as most of the time it is easier to digest. 👉🏻Try aged cheese, as they contain very little lactose 👉🏻Try culture free cheeses like ricotta or marscapone 🌟 When re-introducing, go slow, start small, work with cheeses first and always 1 type at a time. . #lactoseintolerant #lactoseintolerantproblems #lactoseintolerance #dairyisscary #hypothyroidism #thyroidhealth #eastwesthealing #restorationthyroidnutrition #realfoodgangstas https://www.instagram.com/p/BzqdRy7g9sC/?igshid=yr6u7hu641aw

POOR ORAL POSTURE LEADS TO MOUTH BREATHING Mouth breathing will quickly dry out the mouth and lips, decreasing saliva production. Saliva is important to: ✅ Neutralizes acid in the mouth ✅ Washes away bacteria ❌ Fighting tooth decay - without, the chances of tooth decay increases Dry mouth is one of the main causes of gum disease, cavities and inflamed gums, that can advance to periodontitis. Mary Otto(Book: Teeth) says that keeping the mouth open dries out the mouth – less saliva = more cavities. SOLUTION? No fancy devices. DISEASE DOESN’T RUN IN YOUR FAMILY, BEHAVIORS DO We are born to create health and not destined for disease. We are born to adapt and create our own story. We do not HAVE to inherit everything our parents were afflicted with. Our heart beats to create life. We are not ticking time bombs of disease. The choice is yours! Studies now show we each have the ability to positively impact the way our genes express themselves- the process of epigenetics. The theory used to be that how our parents and their parents and their parents lived, what they ate and exposed to, had a huge influence on who we became. BUT, it is know known that nutrition can change the biology of an individual and how his/her genes are expressed! What does this mean? Environment: how we live, what we eat, how we breath, move and the relationships we have, the sunlight we get, how we play, and the content we consume, shapes who we become. Become empowered. THE KEY TO MAINTAINING MOMENTUM IN YOUR HEALING JOURNEY…. ....is celebrating the little wins. You know…the little stuff like having more energy throughout the day, sleeping more deeply, less PMS…here’s one – you have been doing daily enemas for years and now you are only having to do them 1 day a week OR you go from eating Muskateers for breakfast to planning and prepping metabolic foods. You may not be exactly where you want to be in your healing journey, but it is important to celebrate the progress you ARE making. To look back and reflect on where you started and how far you have come. Maintaining perspective as you move through your healing journey, especially if you are someone who has traveled down so many different paths and experienced so many ups and downs (anyone relate?), helps you set realistic expectations and more importantly gives you permission to be gentle with yourself. A practice easily overlooked as we stay busy working to control the body back to health. Reflect and celebrate yourself. It will give you momentum. It will teach you to trust the process AND your body. In that trust you will be able to settle and be more clearly guided on your path. We are all on a journey and other then this present moment not one of knows where it will lead. Take the time to celebrate - pat yourself on the back, schedule a night out with your friends, take half the day off from work, binge watch Netflix, plan a play date with your kids…whatever you do, just make sure you are having fun doing it! After all, having fun and letting do nourishes the mind, body and soul in ways no diet or supplement protocol ever can or will! #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas #restorationthyroidnutrition #celebratethewins https://www.instagram.com/p/BzTRHmPADmZ/?igshid=72ocig2lkgq7

LOW LIBIDO AND POSTPARTUM Having a low libido or no libido post pregnancy is very common. Not to worry….you will, but if you struggle with it, here are some other factors possibly contributing. Psychological stress: A new baby in the house is an incredible gift, but it can also be extremely stressful. There is a helpless child in need of your attention ‪24/7‬ and you are hopelessly devoted to this child’s wellbeing, leaving very little for your self- care and nurturing. Your body has changed, you’re not sleeping, you’re barely eating and at times you may feel very overwhelmed, none of which leave you feeling sexy or wanting sex. In addition, the chronic stress associated with pregnancy can lead to elevated stress hormones. When stress hormones go up, any sex hormones will go down = decreased libido. Low progesterone: During pregnancy, progesterone is produced at a high rate. However, progesterone drops off almost immediately after delivering the placenta while prolactin remains increased. Your ovaries will not start creating progesterone again until your first menstrual cycle, which may create a temporary imbalance. Elevated prolactin levels: In new moms, breast feeding or not, prolactin will be elevated. Why? Its a hormone that plays a role in milk production, but also when elevated, it will decrease libido and slow down your thyroid. Thyroid issues: From psychological stress, the hormone fluctuations of pregnancy, low progesterone, high prolactin and more, your thyroid conversion will 100% be affected. NO this does not mean you are hypothyroid, nor does it mean you will require medication. What you are going through is a natural evolution of pregnancy, giving birth and coming back into balance. The key to recovering balance is to support your body with the energy it needs to sustain this enormous shift in the demand on your physical and mental energy. By regulating blood sugar you control the stress on the system by provide the body the energy it needs to support the demand on both the adrenal and thyroid glands, thus reducing inflammation and recovering balance in the system. #thyroidhealth #postpartumstress #lowlibido #lowlibidoinwomen #postpartumsex https://www.instagram.com/p/BzOBZ77AmKL/?igshid=5ur9uegl2h3h

WHY BALANCING BLOOD SUGAR IS ESSENTIAL FOR HASHIMOTO'S If you have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis balancing your blood sugar SHOULD be top priority. Blood sugar (glucose) is the primary sugar that enters the blood from the food we eat. It is THE #1️⃣ energy source for the body required to fuel our cells, organs, muscles and nervous system. Most of the glucose enters the blood stream from the small intestine, then the pancreas produces insulin to keep blood sugar levels in check – converting excess glucose to glycogen to be stored in the liver. How does blood sugar affect Hashimoto’s? Blood sugar levels and the adrenal-thyroid are intimately connected. Remember, stress to the body will increase demand on the adrenals, which will cause thyroid conversion malfunction. When blood sugar levels are in a constant fluctuation ⬆️ and ⬇️ (dysglycemia), this is a stress. This stress increases the demand on the adrenal glands, which responds by releasing excess cortisol to assist in blood sugar regulation. The excess production of cortisol leads to the increased production of inflammatory proteins associated with a heightened immune response. Over time, when left unmanaged, this pattern will lead to an altered release of cortisol, chronic fatigue, lack of thyroid hormone production and increase thyroid anti-bodies. Simple steps to help you keep your blood glucose levels in balance: 👉🏻Include a C, P and F with each meal 👉🏻Eat every ‪2-3hrs‬ 👉🏻Avoid fruit juices 👉🏻Avoid sweets prior to bed 👉🏻Drink coffee after a meal, never before or as a meal 👉🏻Limit grains 👉🏻Never skip breakfast and always eat within 30min of waking 👉🏻Exercise- regular exercise has been shown to help the body’s cells become more sensitive to insulin . . #hashimotosthyroiditis #hashimotosdisease #dysglycemia #hypoglycemia #highbloodsugar #autoimmunediet #thyroidhealth #adrenalfatigue #metabolichealth #adrenalhealth #thyroidantibodies #eastwesthealing #realfoodgangstas #restorationthyroidnutrition   https://www.instagram.com/p/BzLUMi7AQny/?igshid=1kov0k2ypas62

4 COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THYROID HEALTH⁣ ⁣ When it comes to healing your thyroid condition, it can be very frustrating because most of the time you feel you are doing the right thing.⁣ ⁣ “I have hashimoto’s thyroiditis , so I need to focus on the thyroid.” Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disorder, not a thyroid issue. Yes the thyroid is being affected and should not be overlooked, however to achieve long term healing more attention needs to be placed on building up the immune system. Focus on eating digestive metabolic foods to heal the gut (where 80% of your immune system is housed) and to regulate your blood sugar.⁣ ⁣ “I have cut out soy, gluten and dairy.” The reductionistic way of thinking doesn’t work when it comes to healing your thyroid. Just cutting out food doesn’t have much of an effect on the state of your physiology. It might help to reduce some inflammation but it won’t heal the system. Yes these foods are triggers for most and should be removed unfortunately most people still suffer severe symptoms following the removal of these offenders due to the effects of chronic inflammation/stress in the system.⁣ ⁣ “I eat a clean organic diet.” This is probably the most common thing we hear from people on a daily basis. We get it, you have a love and appreciation for quality food, and so do we. Unfortunately, as a result of being in a hypothyroid, stressed state most people are unable to efficiently break down the food they eat and convert those foods into usable energy to fuel the trillions of cells that make up every tissue and organ in the body.⁣ ⁣ “I have no thyroid and on medication.” Not having a thyroid is not the end of your life. Yes you need medication - BUT the bottom line is this, thyroid gland or not, the hormones still need to be converted. If there are blocking factors like cortisol, estrogen, lack of glucose, etc., the proper conversion will not happen. #cleaneating #thyroidhealth #hashimotosdisease #cutoutdairy #ihavenothyroid #thyroidproblem https://www.instagram.com/p/BzIxbXeAzlw/?igshid=b2u4mdor8wme
