I find it really concerning that younger generations are seperate from older ones. Women and LGB people don't learn about their history or make connections with older generations. This results in the younger generation not understanding just how much they have gained and what they have to lose. It also results in them degrading the severity of issues and struggles those generations faced. Examples of this are slurs and the way that they are so casually thrown around now. I just find it sad and a bit frightening that they don't know their history.

it's so disgusting how prostitution is treated as uwu fun sexy. one time i mentioned to my friend how in late medieval europe many cities had municipal brothels, and she thought it was.....cool? until i was like "yeah, and sometimes the women were not allowed to leave!"

another time i was visiting a roman archeological site along hadrian's wall and there was a tavern, with a tiny side room that prostitutes used to receive clients. the guide treated it lightheartedly, but the reality was that the tavern owner kept one or more slave women who were available to be raped by roman soldiers for a fee. i could not imagine the misery that that room had contained.

but yeah prostitution is somehow sticking it to the puritans or whatever.

bambie thug is so difficult for me bc on one hand, her making being kweer and trans one of her two personality traits despite being a straight and feminine (but goth) woman singing about her ex bf is genuinely annoying. but on the other hand, religious and old people losing their minds over a goth person with an alternative song like it's the irish version of satanic panic is so ridiculous that it makes me want to defend her. like get over it! not every song and performance is catered to 50+ year olds who exclusively listen to dana and the dubliners and that's okay! variety is the spice of life! and the church has been far worse for this country than neopagans with alternative style anyway.

she probably used the term Gaelic instead of Gaeilge because 1) r/aita is an international subreddit and foreign people usually know the language as Gaelic and 2) Gaelic actually is used in some Gaeltachtaí, especially among older people. Gaeilge wasn't the predominantly used term until around the mid-twentieth century. Elderly people in small Gaeltacht communities absolutely do commonly use the term Gaelic where most people would use Gaeilge, especially in Connemara and Kerry. So I don't think someone who learnt it from their grandparents from the Gaeltacht using the word Gaelic is odd or indicative of non-fluency at all.
