one thing i’d like to mention - i still can’t decide which culture rota is based off of. visually it reminds me more of medieval europe, and so i tend to draw from that more than anything else, but it’s hard to determine precisely what they were going for based off the movie alone. aaron’s been a cultural mishmash as a result of that, so i apologize if my writing for him is inconsistent!

“Uh…buddy. We’re gonna be here all day if I tell you all about that. How about your name and where you’re from, cause with the exception of my Cactus Jack, this is common knowledge. Oh, and CJ’s a Metagross, if you know what that is.”
He understood, to a degree; there were a lot of things Aaron knew little to nothing about, particularly when it came to the modern world and how much had changed technologically. Were they to start conversing on any one of those topics they would likely be at it all day, and though he was curious he agreed that it would be best to start with basics. And so he gave a slight bow, not sure if such gestures were still used these days but accustomed to them nonetheless, and straightened so he could introduce himself properly.
Tumblr media
“My name is Sir Aaron, it’s a pleasure to meet you. As for where I’m from, I hail from the queendom of Rota - if you’ve not heard of it, that’s understandable. It’s north of Kanto, I believe the region’s called? As for Metagross, no, I’ve not heard of it. That’s a Pokemon, though, yes?”

“I don’t fully understand the definition, but it’s basically one half of stuff called anti-matter. That stuff is…well, according to some scientists, a gram of anti-matter is on par with a nuclear bomb.”
“And Cactus Jack weighs over half a ton.”
“Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but ... what’s a nuclear bomb? I’m ... rather behind on modern society and technology, I’m afraid. I also don’t know what mega evolution or a Cactus Jack is.”

“... What’s a positron?”
Don’t mind him, he’s about a thousand years behind technologically and easily confused.

“I’d like to know how Cactus Jack changes types from Psychic to Ghost when he Mega Evolves despite being essentially radioactive positrons.”

aura is actually the force and you cannot convince me otherwise

“In my opinion the aura retains an imprint of someone’s personality and memories, even if they die. The few times I’ve encountered ghost pokemon they’ve had an aura, though it’s very different from the aura that a living person has. I can’t say I’ve met an ‘artificial’ pokemon but they’re probably a similar case - they have their own aura, which implies they have a soul - but it’s different from that of a ‘living’ person or pokemon. To put it more simply, aura doesn’t differentiate between what sort of creature has it, and exists regardless of that, and in those cases the individual would still be considered alive in their own way. It’s like the Tree of Beginning, as well - though it’s a rock formation, it’s also alive, though not in a way most people would think of. Ghost pokemon probably come about when that personality or memory is powerful enough to reshape the aura into a new ‘living’ creature that’s an imprint left behind by the original.”

i’ve discussed it before, but aaron does have some ptsd due to past events - for him pokemon battling is hard to observe because he’s accustomed to more violent combat that has resulted in deaths before. when he was young he had nightmares quite frequently; those have lessened over the years but he still has them from time to time, and even in the modern day watching people battle can be quite difficult for him, let alone doing it himself. this is problematic because his turtwig does want to battle, and has a bad tendency to challenge people or pokemon he runs into. this is the one thing they disagree over and while it hasn’t been too bad so far he’s worried that he’s holding his partner back, but at the same time he just isn’t ready emotionally for it.

There is a slight bow that the fairy-type offers when the flower is taken from her grasp– that would surely be recognized as an expression of gratitude by this human, right? It is a thought that lingers no more than a brief second, overtaken by the sight of the gift being passed along to such an adorable and unfamiliar pokemon in Acacia’s eyes, yet one she assumes must have an affinity for plant life all the same. One that seems to accept it, and be brought back to a calmer state. How wonderful! A true appreciator of beauty, clearly.
Dark eyes shift back to the stranger– presumably, the pokemon’s trainer– at his question. And how else could she respond but with a joyous cry that preludes a nod? An arm keeping a small bouquet close to her form moves, a sweeping, grand gesture moving across them, and then extending outwards to the land behind her. A wordless way of conveying, perhaps, that they were grown not too far from where they are.
Once again he became distracted, this time because Turtwig had taken the flower from him and held it in his mouth gently; Aaron couldn’t help the happy little chuckle he gave at the sight, nor the affectionate head rub he then gave his dear companion. Was he a trainer? Not quite, though on occasion he did accept challenges - he disliked watching the little one fight, even if the Pokemon himself seemed to enjoy it. Oft times he found himself at odds with his partner, but for now they were both quite content, and he was glad for it.
Ah, right. He’d been keeping an eye on the new Pokemon, trying to interpret her gestures so he could at least somewhat communicate; though he was more accustomed to having a partner who could tell him their thoughts, he wasn’t bad at figuring out expressions and body language as well. He returned the bow, sweeping his hat off and over his chest as he did so - archaic perhaps, but one of the most polite gestures he could remember from the old days. He had to be careful not to drop the little one, but he managed. The agreement made his smile grow, if that was even possible, and he nodded happily - he’d come out here because he was hoping to relax, and relaxed he was.

Aaron put his hat back on, thinking for a moment, and then he spoke again. “Would you mind showing them to us? We’ve been traveling for some time, a moment to rest somewhere peaceful would be very much appreciated.”
