@nestaarcheronweek Day 3 - Self Care
Self care is calling your sister's bluff and moving away from the Night Court instead of to the House of Wind.
Listen, I fully believe if Nesta and Tamlin got to compare notes on how the NC treats them they could have bonded. And it would be hilarious.

Second one too. I'm generous like that.

you know the biggest bone i have to pick with sjm? it's actually about crescent city, honestly. the lore was so... scattered and incomplete. was she drunk when she wrote the outline? i'm confused as to why a crossover was necessary (I MEAN!) what was involving loser ass rhys into this about? i'm confused as fuck. and why does he have to be so "hot" i do not comprehend. Feyre was barely mentioned (NO appearances) in the 3rd CC book but supposedly she's high lady? What did Rhysand do? Lock her up in the house of wind? I can't with the inconsistencies. i'm tired, y'all. a lot of the MAIN SJM worshippers didn't even like it. and you been knew she's alluding to el/riel end game. i'm 👌 that close to re-writing crescent city, hoe don't tempt me.
maybe feyre didn't appear because she ran away to the spring court to win back tamlin... we can hope right?

Why are we reading these books anymore? What's the point? Is just to see how far SJM will go down the rabbit hole?

because i love to be an actual menace to society: rewritten asteri lore part one.
It takes every male 10,000 years to mature. Upon their 10,000th birthday (similar to turning 21 in human years), they can choose to go on a grace year. The grace year is the hunt for their mate. This can also be postponed until later in life in certain circumstances, such a being in a leadership position.
Every Asteri has a fae mate, most of them are never connected.
Female asteri have a somewhat different coming of age, they come of age at 10,000 years as well, but don't go to seek their mate out. Their coming of age consists of a grace rite. Female asteri choose their place in society, and while female asteri are generally encouraged not to take warrior positions: many of them defy the customs and take up posts where their destructive power will do the most good (if they are loyal to rigelus.) (let's talk about rigelus headcanon's later that's a BIG POST)
Most asteri have destructive magic, however... some of them (all of the seven, and some of the high-born asteri, as well as a small number of commoners and warriors) when they embrace the light, and turn away from their fellows (the loyalists) they are gifted with magic more nuanced than the simply destructive powers of their fellows.
The only power they are never gifted is necromancy. The old gods feared their sons and daughters would grow too powerful for their own good.
However: there is an exception to this rule.
Rigelus and his brother Sirius. (yes I'm aware Sirius is a female in the books let's roll with it though)
The two brothers can use necromancy for one reason alone; to bring back their mate.
I think it's a little funny in the books they never describe Rigelus as being mated. And what's up with him having a teenage boy's body? errrr...... *record scratch noise.*
Which brings me too: True Forms.
It makes sense that the asteri can shape-shift or take on a dead fae body. It also makes sense that their bodies wear out after a few thousand years. In the same vein, what if the two most powerful asteri, Sirius and Rigelus, could not take on "shells" aka dead fae bodies. The two brothers only have one, true form. They can glamor or use the damper on their power to change or obscure features. But Sirius and Rigelus are essentially kind of stuck with their "true" features.
ok i think i have shattered all your minds well enough for today.

I don't know what happened to my other pinned but lo and behold I'm making a new one. Hello, welcome to my little corner of the fandom. I stepped back for about 6 months to see what i really wanted from fandom. It's my place to think, to create, and to relax. This doesn't always mean I engage with the media (especially SJM media) in a complementary way. I have never been one to "follow the flock" if you will. I'm older than most people here too, I'm in my early to mid-thirties. I have a college education and an extensive one at that. I enjoy literary criticism and I like making posts that might make you mad about your faves. Just block me if you're pro-feysand, pro-rhysand, pro-inner circle, or any variation on those themes. This is NOT a Cassian-friendly space. Phew. I will say I'm in love with non-canon pairs. I like Tamlin and Eris and all the ones who are a little less loved in the fandom.
-Proceed with kindness always.
Masterlist under the cut bbs! Organized by fandom.
MASTERLIST
COMING SOON.

I WILL RIOT right now
A ramble.
Honestly I'm not surprised to hear about this KKK dark romance book
Mostly because I have already said that authors have been left to include very questionable things in books advertised as mainstream and even YA
readers are dismissed for calling out problematic elements, especially in regards to bipoc calling out white authors for racism
But also because Italian readers have called out dark romance authors and readers for romanticising the real life mafia while such organisations are directly involved in things like human trafficking and murder
Same with some biker gangs. Same with the Bratva. Same with the Cartels. Real people suffer and die everyday at the hands of these groups
So am I surprised that there's a book about a KKK member and a "Cartel princess"? Obviously not
In all honesty I don't know where the line is supposed to be drawn between exploring darker themes and content that needs to be red flagged. I don't believe in censorship but I think profiting off of dark material, putting it in the mainstream and promoting it is gross and should be unacceptable
And so often dark romance is just used as a blanket term to push violently misogynistic and subtly (or not so subtlety) racist content
Heroines in these romances skew white, virginal and uncomfortably young most of the time and when they aren't they are fetishised or hyper-sexualised
Romantasy and "booktok" in particular has become this surreal genre encroaching on YA/NA fantasy, determined to make smut the centre of every story
And publishers are behind it all, signing million dollar deals to sometimes subpar authors to push out these barely edited books that are high in smut and tropes but low in quality and plot
Idk what the solution is but something needs to change
