The location of springs in Japan
Japanese hot spring culture
The Izumo no Kuni Fudoki, which is said to have been completed in 733, describes the present-day Tamatsukuri Onsen in Shimane Prefecture as follows.
“On the riverside of this village there is a hot spring. They go along the beach and gather almost every day to create a bustle like a market, and also enjoy a banquet in the middle of the day. If you wash it repeatedly, it will cure all kinds of diseases. In this way, it has been effective from ancient times to the present without exception, so the people of the world call it the hot spring of the gods.”
