People who find Bonkai whack and say that it makes no sense and yet ship things like KC astound me. Bonkai would have made more sense. I mean to name a couple reasons 1 There was a reason for the two characters to interact 2 It makes sense for the characters to be interested in one another given their commonalities/shared experience and 3 The writers don’t need to make them ooc/pull dumbass/nonsensical storylines out of their asses to even get them in the same frame much less be together

The moment Plec made KC canon was the moment she lost all right to judge people’s ships. Granted she never had the right, but due to how she made them happen, bend the plot over backwards just to get them in the same room, it makes every ship just as valid as the other because canon no longer has any rules.

And that’s why I too side eye people who condemn Bonkai saying they make no sense when they ship KC because by shipping KC you’ve basically conceded that that isn’t a requirement for a good ship so you’re just being hypocritical. I may not agree with their philosophy but you need to play by the rules you set for yourself or else everything you say is invalid.

But even all that aside for the reasons you pointed out Bonkai does make sense. The plot doesn’t have miraculously bend for them to be in a scene together. They don’t have to he wildly OOC to get together like with KC and the sire bond with DE. They had a natural progression that the show really hadn’t seen until then and I think that’s what made me realize what exactly was wrong with how ships were written on the show.

They were the dark ship DE and KC wished they were. They were the soulmates SE and SA wished they were intertwined in power and passion. They had the progression SC wished they had. They were goals, and it’s a shame Plec’s ego couldn’t handle something so great coming from something she didn’t help create.
