I’ll be okay. Maybe. Eventually. But it’ll take a while. The immediate aftermath of this slip up was him silently swearing at himself, trying to tamp down the shivers, hardening a resolve to not fall asleep on accident again. Krueger had found his dream almost immediately, as though he knew it was coming soon. The idea of Krueger circling around and watching from somewhere Quentin couldn’t tell both infuriated and creeped him out.

Worse was the knowledge that it will just happen again. This perpetual cycle of keep-away that he always loses, because sleep doesn’t have eternity but Krueger’s patience does. Then he goes through a Hell-within-Hell. Then he wakes up, ragged and burning horribly on the inside, the raw trauma worse than any metaphysical torture inflicted. He couldn’t keep this up forever---not when it was eroding him away like this. But it was difficult when Krueger had so much of the advantage over him.

Quentin pressed the heels of his palms into his eyes, sighing. He shouldn’t stress about it now, otherwise he’ll spiral with an audience. He pulled his hands away and looked at Jake, anchoring himself on his presence. It was a good presence: quiet, sturdy, and pine-scented.

     “Could I...borrow a medkit?”
