A Guide to Beacon.tv

So you can know whether it's right for you. Full disclosure I have not yet signed up so this is the info I can find without doing so. Wanted to put it all in one place for other folks.

Critical Role Abridged

Episodes of Campaign 3 edited down to 60-90 minutes with new art depicting NPCs, items, or moments from artists in the community. They will also be releasing on Youtube! Subscribers to Beacon just get the first 12 early and two per week rather than Youtube's weekly (on Tuesdays at 10am Pacific) though they say the first four will be dropping this week for Youtube. It seems like they may be similar in style to Dimension 20 episodes with split screening at least at some points based on the trailer.

Critical Cooldown

Watch the cast react to the episode after it ends for about 10-15 minutes based on the ones that are currently out. They start for episode 83. Exclusive to Beacon.

The Re-Slayer's Take

A new podcast campaign set within Exandria that will also wide release anywhere you listen to podcasts. Beacon members get access to episodes two weeks early. First episode releases May 20th with episodes every Monday. Game masters George Primavera and Nick Williams lead players Jasmine Bhullar, Jasper William Cartwright, Caroline Lux, and Jasmine Chiong as rejects of the Slayer's Take in fights against the undead in Issylra. Appropriate for all ages, fans new and old, and edited into "bite size episodes".

Fireside Chats

A monthly Q&A with a different cast member or guest. Questions curated from the Beacon member Discord. 30-60 minutes. Begins May 21st with Matthew Mercer. Exclusive to Beacon.

Aside from those you get ad-free access to Campaign 2 (episodes 20+) and Campaign 3 as well as ExU, Crit Recap Animated, All Work No Play, Candela Obscura, 4 Sided Dive, & Midst. It seems that Campaign 1 and episodes 1-19 of Campaign 2 are not available, likely due to complications with the rights and Geek & Sundry.

CR's BEACON and a bit about it

So of course I had to get in on this because I'm all for discounts and early access and NOT giving money to Twitch and YT if I can help it.

And yes, the site is getting SLAMMED at the moment, but I've now managed to get in, and it's working great.

Couple notes:

If you have the same email address for the CR shop and for Beacon, once your Beacon account is created, it auto-applies the discount to the shop. You will see the price crossed out and a discounted price next to the item (limitations do apply, they go over that).

I gather there is some wonkiness going on with the Discord, so I'd suggest waiting a day or so on that one.

Cooldown (the immediate after-show filming) IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. Listening to them conspiracy theorizing and Matt answering a couple things (or in more cases, "You don't know!") is just great to watch.

Yes, there is subtitles/captioning, and it looks like it's done by the same folks they have doing the main eps.

Re-Slayer's Take is *NOT* the main cast -- it is run and played by other people. I gather this is in a similar vein to Midst, but them allowing other groups to "play" in Exandria. It is also all-ages-friendly.

There is an app in the Apple store and Android store -- IT IS CALLED POCKET BEACON. HOW FUNNY IS THAT?!

UPDATE: I've seen a couple of Twitter posts about the app possibly being geolocked -- cannot confirm or deny as I live in the United States and thus cannot check (and am reluctant to dick around with my phone).

UPDATE: Someone brought up in the replies that captioning/subtitling is not yet on everything, and in a couple cases, it's a bit wonky. Again, hopefully to be straightened out sooner than later.

UPDATE: Someone else in the replies wondered about whether coming in on a live broadcast late means you can still start from the beginning or not.. IF SOMEONE CAN CONFIRM OR DENY THIS WITH TONIGHT'S BROADCAST, DROP ME AN ASK AND LEMME KNOW, PLEASE!

however, it DOES NOT have subtitles, though the speed and quality can be adjusted.
