one of the best/funniest pieces of fg advice I ever got was "you should be looking at your opponent's character more than your own" so you can react in time to whatever they're doing and respond appropriately and whatever, and when I find myself just a half step behind my opponent and adjust like that it usually makes me play way better and ALSO makes be realize "uh yeah of course I was staring at Axl Low; he's making funny faces and has a big smile and is the only one who makes me believe we're gonna make it no duh I'm looking at him instead - oh my god when did my opponent get that close AAAGH!!"
