      it was sort of an accident, showing himself in the first place.

      though it was hardly an unfamiliarity, folks coming to the quarry to swim or have parties (not that he could identity them as such; it’s not like he understood what they were) —— and at this point the boy had grown well accustomed to hiding away in the murky depths around the grayed cliffsides —— today, he founds himself getting caught off guard by one stray loser’s presence.   sitting on the edge of warm stone, feet in the water as he soaked up the sun, otherwise unharmed as opposed to what some may assume, he had, for a solid moment, thought he was genuinely alone.  besides, nobody every came out and hung around this time of day.  he was wrong, of course, but it’s not like he expected it.

      the moment a voice, something he’d heard distorted by the water many times before, rose above the natural silence, he presented himself with two options: sink back into the quarry, and refuse to come back up (let the other think they just saw things; that was the best way), or stay and see how things go.   the second option, one he never actually considered and more or less acted out subconsciously, was, quite frankly, his downfall.

      quick to get to his feet, he brought up his hands as he faced stan, annoyance at himself and uncertainty bubbling in his chest.  ❛ don’t.  freak.  out. ❜  and then, with webbed hands still spread out in an almost defensive gesture, he said, eventually, ❛ never mind. go ahead. ❜

imagine, like, a lake monster-esque sharkboy though. with that long spinal fin instead of the shark one, the sharp teeth that aren’t as sharp and don’t come in rows, the webbing between his fingers (n toes) —— maybe even small whiskers and more fishy eyes, just to top it all off. he’s not nearly as violent but is still more than a little defensive, and lives at the bottom of like, a lake or some shit, and just. good idea 10/10, give me lakeboy

you can say whatever you want about sharkboy, but just know that he is one of the most fiercely loyal and determined individuals out there like ..... he and his dad were swept away in a storm and separated, and for Years he thrived off the hope (or, to him, the knowledge) that his father was still alive and out there, like. for years. this kid, who had lost his dad, who had no way of knowing he was okay, never wavered in his belief that he was still kicking, and even when the story was over, the first thing he did was set off to find him like. get you a mans
