Ghosts of the Arctic from Untitled Film Works on Vimeo.
Ghosts of the Arctic was the type of passion project that dreams are made of. Our goal was to venture out into the beautiful frozen expanse of Svalbard, in winter, to search and document polar bears.
Great write up with loads of info at: nofilmschool.com/2017/08/ghosts-arctic-4k-cold-weather-film-shoot
During the shoot we experienced temperatures that were never warmer than -20ºC and frequently plummeted down as low as -30ºC + wind chill factor.
Many days we drove over two hundred kilometres on our snow mobiles in very difficult terrain and conditions as we searched for wildlife. We experienced three cases of first and second degree frostbite during the filming as well as a lot of failed equipment as a result of the extreme cold. Each day involved 14-16 hours in the field.
We had batteries that would lose their charge in mere minutes, drones that wouldn't power up and fly, cameras that wouldn't turn on, steady-cams that would not remain steady, HDMI cables that became brittle and snapped in the cold, frozen audio equipment, broken LCD mounts, broken down snow mobiles and more. We existed on a diet of freeze dried cod and pasta washed down with tepid coffee and the occasional frozen mars bar.
But in spite of the conditions, it was one of the most rewarding shoots we have all been involved in.

The Big Island | Time-Lapse Flow Motion - 4K from Tyler Fairbank on Vimeo.
The Island of Hawai’i, the largest of the archipelago, only continues to grow larger. Two of its five volcanoes remain active, with Kilauea continuing to erupt and add mass to the island today.
This video chronicles a short journey through the various terrains and astonishing landscapes of Hawai’i, one million years in the making. Accompanied by classic Polynesian drums, this minute and a half piece takes us through the Northern Coast’s spectacular valleys, above the clouds on the summit of Mauna Kea, and into the fires of Kilauea.

PREORDER OCTOBER 19TH
iTunes: itunes.apple.com/album/id14371...
Spotify: open.spotify.com/artist/064Wl...
A PMCE orchestra holding a veiled oriental touch is twisted by acoustic instrumentation. Elegant styled guitars get hurtling towards angry, crushing drums. Piano of Gilda Buttà (The Legend of 1900 and The Untouchables).
Fury by Stefano Lentini is an alternative-classic project with a symphonic prominence, prog-electronic and folk influences. The instrumental concept album finds its roots in the exploration of anger as an oft-neglected feeling and the search of its meaning. Fury is a journey through the universe of human emotions, symbolized by the stunning complexity of cosmos and its savage celestial bodies.

On March 16, 2017, Albino Quiroz Sandoval popped out of the house around 5 p.m. for a little trip to the shop. The 71-year-old lives in Tepoztlán, a small colonial town with little crime, a weekend getaway from hectic Mexico City. Quiroz had been a public school teacher for 48 years. Everyone knows him.
By 8 p.m., he wasn’t home. His family grew worried. His son Juan Carlos Quiroz, who was a 90-minute drive away in Mexico City, got a frantic call from his sister.
“We didn’t know what to do,” Juan Carlos recalls. “My sister and I thought it could be a kidnapping.”
It is a reasonable assumption. More than 37,000 people have disappeared in the country since 2007, according to a Mexican government database. Independent monitors say the number is even higher.
The family quickly found Albino’s car just a few blocks from his house but saw no sign of him. Juan Carlos kept digging. He questioned neighbors and reported the disappearance to police. But searching for people who’ve disappeared isn’t easy in Mexico.
“People are afraid to speak out because they don’t know the consequences, who might be behind a certain action or if they might become implicated,” says Juan Carlos.

There are pencils that turn into plants when you’re done using them.
The ‘Sprout Pencil’ is the first sustainable pencil in the world that can be planted after use.
“We have chosen the seeds for our pencils with great care, and they germinate quickly: i.e. within 1-3 weeks, depending on the seed variety. Most plants can be grown both indoors and outdoors.”
It’s made of natural materials: the body is cedar wood, and the “lead” is a mixture of clay and graphite.
Sprout pencils are available in 22 varieties, including sunflower, mint, lavender, sage, forget-me-not, cherry tomato, sweet pea, cilantro, and wild strawberry.
What to do
“When the Sprout Pencil has become too short to write with, it is ready to be planted. Follow the simple instructions below and see your Sprout pencil sprout.”
They are also available in the colored pencil variety, which makes me oh-so-happy!
