Mr Banks visited the vet today, and the news isn't hopeful. She believes his prognosis is measured in days, maybe a week. In our earlier post, we mentioned that we think of him as belonging to the entire SIT family and community. With that said, this Thursday we're going to take Mr B. for one last ice cream at the Dairy Queen in Carbondale around 5pm. If you want to stop by, or drive-by to say goodbye, he'd love to see you. This sweet boy didn't have the easiest begining, born into the life of a bait dog. However, he has never stopped loving life and has given us a wonderful 7 years. **Please note: per Carbondale mandate, you MUST be wearing a mask and observe social distancing recommendations. Sirius will be beginning graduation August 18th! He was rematched with a new (equally compatible) partner for the safety of his original match. No worries...his former match will be graduating with a service dog from the Office class (they were incredibly graceful and understanding). He is soooo ready to graduate, and we're excited he gets to meet his new family soon. He's the last of our Potter class to graduate. We have the cure for your quarantine blues- host a service dog in training for the weekend! We are reorganizing our volunteer program. Hanging out with a service dog in training for the weekend has loads of perks: fun 4H or homeschool project for the kids, learn skills to help your own dog live his best life, feel good about helping a furry little buddy change someone's life, get brownie points for applications, the list goes on and on! Volunteer candidates will be required to attend 3 workshops before handling a dog. Beginning August 16th at 5pm, workshops will be held at SIT in our outside dogpark so we are able to practice social distancing. After completing the 3 day course, all volunteers will need to pass an interview. After volunteers successfully complete our workshops, they will then be able to invite a SDIT to hangout with them at home for the weekend. With your help, we can continue placing our service dogs for kids and adults with medically complex disabilities at a lower cost.
