never not convinced that holly was trying to flirt with lucy in the beginning of THB and doing a terrible job of it/lucy was too jealous to understand WHAT was happening

Hi sorry to be obnoxious on your blog. I’m so so sooo new here, I liked the show and then binged the books and I have SOO MANY FEELINGS mostly about LUCY my stupid little CHAOS bisexual daughter and anyway I’m just really glad I found your blog because obviously you are a person of taste
Ahh welcome! I will eternally be on team bisexual lucy rah rah! Yeah lucy is one of the few protagonists who is actually my favorite character in a series, because YES she is chaotic and messy and fucks up and doesn’t know what to do with her feelings and I love all those things about her!!

Book!Lucy & Lockwood vs Show!Lucy & Lockwood: A VERY LONG Deep Dive
Tumblr media
So I finished the Netflix adaptation of Lockwood & Co.
Overall, I think it was a respectful adaptation, which, despite some plot changes, kept largely to the spirit of the books. At minimum, Joe Cornish actually seems to like L&Co, which is way more than can be said about most adaptations these days. Hooray!
But I wanted to write a bit about one of the bigger changes they made: namely the dynamic between Lucy and Lockwood.
I’ve seen people saying that the Locklyle adaptation to screen was very true to the books, just without Lucy’s close personal voice, and sped up a little in the romance department (“Stroud doesn’t mention what Lucy was doing with her hands! They could have been on Lockwood’s face in the books!” etc).
Respectfully, I disagree quite a bit with this. While some argument could be made about it having shades of their relationship from THB/TCS onwards, I actually think Show!Lucy’s attitude towards Lockwood is a 180 from the way she views him in TSS and TWS.
IDK, this might be a bit of a controversial opinion judging by what I’ve been seeing in the L&Co tag and general ways people have interpreted TSS and TWS in the years since their publication, but I’m going to try to back my argument as best as I can, focusing only on those books.
I’m using the original paperback UK editions of both the Screaming Staircase (2013) and The Whispering Skull (2014).
Spoilers for the show and VERY mild spoilers for books 3+ (literally just the name of a new character/type of ghost + stuff already shown in the show that wasn’t shown until later in the books)
Another warning: this analysis is 5500(!!!) words long, and mostly quotes from the book. If you’d like to just read the main bits, look at the intro/conclusion to each section and read the TLDR; at the end.

I really think there should’ve been 10+ episodes. There was no down time in the show, and that down time is what really makes you buy into the characters and their ties to each other. Especially the screaming staircase stuff was really condensed! Without all the Portland Row stuff I think it’s hard to understand why the team works, and it makes all their claims of knowing each other well enough to _______, feel a little hollow.

This is not a spoiler-free blog for the TV show or books! I’ll start trying to tag the tv show as #lockwood & co tv

I watched the series with my friends and I’m so excited! The screen adaptation is gorgeous, I’m crying, I love all these characters so much. Glad to be in L&C fandom for so long, it’s still the best

'Cornish told RadioTimes.com: "Well, there are five books. Season 1 encompasses the first two books. So we think there's definitely two more seasons we'd love to make out of the remaining books.'
I RECKON IF THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS ARE ANYTHING LIKE THE LAST THREE DAYS THEN THIS IS A TOTAL POSSIBILITY.
also idk if this is an unpopular opinion but following this layout i think season 2 should be solely based on book 3 and then season 3 should be a combination of books 4 and 5.
*book spoilers for 3,4, and 5*
The whole plotline with the Chelsea outbreak I think could carry an entire season especially since the creative team seems keen to explore how the trauma of risking their lives daily is affecting the younger generations. Only doing one book could also allow for more domestic scenes between the trio which I've been seeing come up a couple of times amongst reviews by fans of the books as an aspect they found lacking. When Lucy resigns from Lockwood and Co I think wouldn't be as impactful if one or two episodes later she rejoins rather than using the break between seasons to introduce a time skip. While books 4 and 5 result in a major overhaul of everything we thought we could trust in when originally reading I think it would serve really well as following each other in the third and final season. Penelope/Marissa moving quickly to take over the agencies in London would increase the tension and need for the Lockwood and Co team to take action urgently. The writers seemed to favor a fast-paced story which would be better served by following book 4 with book 5.
Overall I'm just glad that Joe Cornish and the team behind the show are planning ahead for future seasons and want to continue the story they started to tell. I really hope that they get the opportunity to do so and we get the chance to see it.
