Defensive Mechanics Guide

The first thing that I would like to clarify is that defense, unlike offense, does NOT take weapon-direction of your star-reticle into account. It doesn't matter what your weapon-polarity (the red highlighted direction indicated by your star-reticle) is toggled. Essentially, there is only one defensive orientation, and it covers attacks from one singular opponent (in front of you), no matter what direction they swing. For the purposes of this discussion, the opponent's swing will be broken down into three phases:

Phase 1: The opponent will draw back his weapon (watch for shoulder movement) and then begin to swing the weapon at the target (player). This phase happens before the 'green-shield' icon appears.

Phase 2: The opponent's weapon will have already begun to swing at the target (player), and follow through until just before the moment of contact with the target (player). This phase is easily indicated by the 'green-shield' icon that shows up the center of your star-reticle for the duration of this phase.

Phase 3: The opponent's weapon finally makes contact with the player, and it lasts all the way throughout the rest of the animation, followed by the back-swing.

Note: Please do not ask me how many active frames are in each phase, because I simply do not know, and I have no desire to spend my time finding out. Blocking

If you hold the block button down during any of these 'Phases,' you will simply block the opponent's swing. Please note that blocking a hit drains a good amount of stamina. Oddly enough, once you start oufitting yourself with the higher defensive plate armor, you'll take less stamina drain from just taking the hit rather than trying to block it (go figure) ːsteamfacepalmː Perfect Block If you wait until 'Phase 2' of the opponent's attack (indicated by the 'green shield' icon) to press the block button, the game will enter a bullet-time-like slowdown and you will essentially parry the opponent's weapon off to the side. When this happens, priority is given to you to follow up with an attack (Riposte) which the opponent can only avoid by either doing their own perfect-block or master-strike. Master Strike This is what everyone's been waiting for. If you press block during 'Phase 1' or in the early frames of 'Phase 2' of the opponent's attack, you will not only parry the attack, but you will automatically (without pressing any additional buttons or inputs) follow-up with an extremely quick and unavoidable riposte that will be indicated by several different animations. The player will either strike the opponent repeatedly in the head with the pommel of the sword, back the opponent up with several pokes to the chest, kick the opponent in the stomach, interrupt the opponent's swing with a downward slice at the head, glide into a slice at the right/left torso, or follow-up with diagonally upward slices at the opponent's thigh/lower-abdomen area. The animation is loosely based on the direction of the opponent's swing. Despite what you've been hearing, master-strikes are NOT RANDOM. As a general rule, you have to press the block button BEFORE the 'green-shield' icon shows up. My advice is to watch the opponent's shoulders for movement; that's the give-away. Though, that may just be an indication of the opponent changing stances. If you practice, you'll be able to spot the difference and even if you're slightly late, it'll still register the master-strike if you press block during the early frames of the 'green-shield.'

Last, but not least, I want to quickly touch on one last subject, which is combos. Anyone who's played this game for over an hour will realize that opponents just don't let you combo them. There's two ways to land a combo. The first is after a perfect-block; I've had about a 20% success rate with this. The second method, is to walk/run up into an opponent to initiate a clinch, press the special attack button (by default, it's 'F' on the PC), and when you overpower/push the opponent off, the AI will NOT block your next attack for whatever reason. This is the best time to execute your combo, I've had about an 80% success rate with this method. TextEdit is a word processor/text editor in Mac OS X Leopard that you can use to create documents, write letters, scribble notes, or open Read Me files. Although TextEdit isn’t as sophisticated as Microsoft Word (or even AppleWorks or Pages), you can definitely use the OS X. My name’s John and today I’m going to take you through a introduction to Pages in Mac OS X. This will be the first in a 3 part series detailing the iWork suite of Applications including Keynote and Numbers. So what is Pages? Of course, you must install the operating system first. From theinstaller, don't choose 'Easy Install' but 'Customize' it so that X11(see below) will be installed.

Once you have installed the system from CD-ROM, go to the Apple Menu(the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen) and choose'Software Update', and keep updating the system until you don't seeany more updates. You can skip some updates, if you are dead surethat you will never use Arabic on your machine, or you won't use fancyMP3 player from Apple iPod. X Windows

Many Unix applications run in X Windows environment. Apple'simplementation of X Windows X11for Mac OS X uses native graphics engine and is fast. It uses itsown window manager that looks just like the rest of Mac Aquainterface. It can be installed from the Snow Leopard system DVD. You alsoneed 'X11 for Mac OS X SDK' from the system DVD.

Unix applications

A variant of Unix which Mac OS X is based on is called Darwin. Many Unixapplications had been ported to Mac OS X already. I like using Fink package manager. Itautomates the process of downloading the binary package, ordownloading source package, applying a patch, compling, and installingit. There is an impressive number of applications you can install viafink. Fink was designed carefully as to not disturb or modify thesystem. It can be uninstalled with a single command 'sudo rm -r /sw'You definitely want f77, imagemagick, ghostscript for X, ispell, xdvi,and gimp if you want to edit graphics or xv to preview them.

Another source of ported Unix applications is Gnu-Darwin Distribution.It is not as automatic as fink, but it provides a wide collection ofported Unix applications. It does require some tinkering with thesystem area. Proceed cautiously.

To run commands on a shell, you launch Terminal application from/Applications/Utilities folder.

Emacs

You can emacs on Terminal already out of the box, or xemacs in XWindows available via fink.

I'd recommend using Emacs (GNU Emacs, not xemacs) as a separateapplication together with auctex. It can be installed via fink as % fink install emacs23-app % fink install auctex To make sure that Emacs.app has the same environmental variables as your shell, install also exec-path-from-shell.el. Then Emacs.app has built-in support for SOURCE SPECIALS which you enable fromthe menu Command → TeXing Options → Source Specials. Thenby doing control-click on the xdvi window, the cursor in Emacs movesautomatically to the corresponding paragraph. Make sure emacsclient from the command line calls /sw/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/emacsclient. It also has a built-in support for LaTeX-aware formatting, that makes editing LaTeX easier. I'd also recommend 'M-x flyspell-mode' for on-the-fly spell checking. Itrequires ispell available through fink.

You can do the same also with xemacs. You set anenvironmental variable XEDITOR='gnuclient -q +%l %f' in .xinitrc, and run 'M-x gnuserv-start' in xemacs. You should set (progn (setq LaTeX-command-style '(('.' 'latex --src-specials')))); in ~/.xemacs/init.el to use SOURCE SPECIALS. One annoyance is thatxemacs keeps opening a new window each time you control-click on xdvi.

Because Mac OS X is Unix, it can run all kinds of servers. To servemail, MailServeSnowcan turn on SMTP, POP3, and IMAP servers with SSL. To setup mailing lists, GNUMailman is easy and secure. Remote administration is supportedout of the box via VNC. Just go to 'Sharing' control panel, and turnon 'Apple Remote Desktop.' All you need then is a client, such as Chicken of theVNC.

Miscellaneous Applications

Fugu is agraphical sftp client. And the good-'old Fetch now supports sftp. GraphicConverter is aswiss army knife to deal with and edit various graphic formats.

To back up a disk or to migrate from a small hard disk to a largerone, I'd recommend SuperDuper!It is also good for making bootable backups.

To paste equations into PowerPoint or Office, I use tex2im, a nifty shellscript that converts equation in LaTeX to any graphics format. It canbe installed via fink and uses imagemagick. The Office suite from Microsoft is available and is much better than previous versions of Office. They finally look like Mac applications!

For presentations, Apple's Keynote is rapidly gaining popularity. It allows PDF graphics without losing scalability, has cool transitions. Steve Jobs himself uses it for MacWorld keynote addresses famous for the 'reality distortion field.' It is a part of iWork package together with Pages, a combo of a word processor and a page layout program.

All important Adobe applications are there, including Acrobat Reader, Acrobat, Illustrator, PhotoShop.

I haven't had much problem finding good applications for research purposes. People complain that there are still less games available for Macintosh, that may be a good thing.^_^

The game centers around a heroic rooster character named Cluck Yegger, who after crash landing on the planet Poultroid in front of a chicken factory called BFC, must defend himself from mutated chickens that have been sent by his nemesis, the evil 'Colonel Zanderz'. The game is an offshoot of the Kickstarted video game called 'SpaceVenture' created by the Two Guys From Andromeda. It was released privately to backers of SpaceVenture on October 29. 2015,[1] and then was greenlit on Steam and released publicly on November 9, 2015.[2]

Your disabled ship is running on limited auxiliary solar power that charges during the daytime. But at night, confined to the cockpit, you must survive unwelcomed visits from a brood of peckish genetically modified poultroid looking for a late night snack. Can you survive seven nights to ESCAPE PLANET POULTROID?

Gameplay: – Monitor cameras to keep tabs on the advancing poultroid. – Listen for signs of unseen intruders. – Activate bright lights to ward-off the nocturnal creatures. – Activate infrared night vision to stealthily spot critters lurking in and around your ship. – Seal cockpit doors and shield as a last line of defense.

A bridge is a piece of software used to unite two or more network segments. A bridge behaves like a virtual network switch, working transparently (the other machines do not need to know about its existence). Any real devices (e.g. eth0) and virtual devices (e.g. tap0) can be connected to it.

This article explains how to create a bridge that contains at least an ethernet device. This is useful for things like the bridge mode of QEMU, setting a software based access point, etc.

Creating a bridge

There are a number of ways to create a bridge.

With iproute2

This section describes the management of a network bridge using the ip tool from the iproute2 package, which is required by the basemeta package.

With bridge-utils

Note: The use of brctl is deprecated and is considered obsolete. See the Notes section in brctl(8) § NOTES for details.

Note: Adding an interface to a bridge will cause the interface to lose its existing IP address. If you are connected remotely via the interface you intend to add to the bridge, you will lose your connection. This problem can be worked around by scripting the bridge to be created at system startup.

With NetworkManager

GNOME's Network settings can create bridges, but currently will not auto-connect to them or slave/attached interfaces. Open Network Settings, add a new interface of type Bridge, add a new bridged connection, and select the MAC address of the device to attach to the bridge.

KDE's plasma-nm can create bridges. In order to view, create and modify bridge interfaces open the Connections window either by right clicking the Networks applet in the system tray and selecting Configure Network Connections... or from System Settings > Connections. Click the Configuration button in the lower left corner of the module and enable 'Show virtual connections'. A session restart will be necessary to use the enabled functionality.

nm-connection-editor can create bridges in the same manner as GNOME's Network settings.

nmcli from networkmanager can create bridges. Creating a bridge with STP disabled (to avoid the bridge being advertised on the network):

If NetworkManager's default interface for the device you added to the bridge connects automatically, you may want to disable that by clicking the gear next to it in Network Settings, and unchecking 'Connect automatically' under 'Identity.'

Tips and tricks

Wireless interface on a bridge

To add a wireless interface to a bridge, you first have to assign the wireless interface to an access point or start an access point with hostapd. Otherwise the wireless interface will not be added to the bridge.

Speeding up traffic destinated to the bridge itself

In some situations the bridge not only serves as a bridge box, but also talks to other hosts. Packets that arrive on a bridge port and that are destinated to the bridge box itself will by default enter the iptables INPUT chain with the logical bridge port as input device. These packets will be queued twice by the network code, the first time they are queued after they are received by the network device. The second time after the bridge code examined the destination MAC address and determined it was a locally destinated packet and therefore decided to pass the frame up to the higher protocol stack.[1]

The way to let locally destinated packets be queued only once is by brouting them in the BROUTING chain of the broute table. Suppose br0 has an IP address and that br0's bridge ports do not have an IP address. Using the following rule should make all locally directed traffic be queued only once:

The replies from the bridge will be sent out through the br0 device (assuming your routing table is correct and sends all traffic through br0), so everything keeps working neatly, without the performance loss caused by the packet being queued twice.

The redirect target is needed because the MAC address of the bridge port is not necessarily equal to the MAC address of the bridge device. The packets destinated to the bridge box will have a destination MAC address equal to that of the bridge br0, so that destination address must be changed to that of the bridge port.

No networking after bridge configuration

It may help to remove all IP addresses and routes from the interface (e.g. eth0) that was added to the bridge and configure these parameters for the bridge instead.

First of all, make sure there is no dhcpcd instance running for eth0, otherwise the deleted addresses may be reassigned.

As the MAC address of the bridge is not necessarily equal to the MAC address of the networking card usually used by the server, the server provider might drop traffic coming out from the bridge, resulting in a loss of connectivity when bridging e.g. the server ethernet interface. Configuring the bridge to clone the mac address of the ethernet interface might therefore be needed for hosted servers.
