#oh my goodness #I have to thank tumblr for introducing me to Doctor Who #would've never discovered it on my own as someone from the USA with parents from a third world country #other than that. wow SuperWhoLock sure was something huh? #crazy how all three of them got associated in people's minds #I was never into all of them as a combined concept #but I did like all of them #(although I liked Sherlock a lot less due to me being a Sherlock Holmes fan before watching the series. but it was still alright) #anyways. all three of them were different genres lol #that's the crazy part #to me at least #the fandom was insane

genuinely, i think watching live theatre can improve your media literacy so much

like people who look at doctor who and are like 'lol the effects are so rubbish'

maybe watch a stage play where there's no backdrops and half the characters are played by the same three guys in different hats and maybe you will calm down

comic fandoms are great bc every once in a while you will get someone in your notes PROUDLY proclaiming theyve only skimmed the wikis of the characters they write gay porn about and somehow they still think theyre an authority on them

#honestly it brings the elitist out of me #I'm not even an elitist #my brother loves Spider-Man but he hadn't read any comics #and I agree that he's a bigger fan than me even though I have read the comics #(well. he never read them until recently when he did and agreed that he was missing out on some good Spider-Man content) #((just wait until he gets to the bad stuff jkjk)) #as long as you don't assert yourselves over the actual fans or complain about content you were never consuming that the real fans enjoy #I don't care if you never read a comic watched a show or a movie #just. whenever those types of people have a “I'm better than you” attitude I get really annoyed and feel like gatekeeping #seriously though. I often stay away from fandom #because seeing takes about my favorite series Hellblazer by people who obviously don't read makes me genuinely depressed #I'm more sad about it than angry #luckily for me though. recent comic writers actually care about the series enough to make a story that feels like Hellblazer #I needed a recovery after Constantine: Distorted Illusions (a comic that felt like the writer probably knew nothing about Hellblazer)

Liking family content is fine and with that out of the way I gotta say. The popular view of the fandom viewing Kirby and Bandana ONLY as kids and often forcing the main four into a nuclear family unit and reducing Kirby especially to a shallow baby stereotype and completely ignoring the beautiful, complex, and nuanced friendship dynamics of the main four that is right there is the greatest tragedy ever.

And the irony of a series that so greatly stresses the importance and significance of platonic relationships just to have it tossed to the side by the fandom gets me.

#Kirby series #so true #although my sister is not into any fandom stuff at all since she's normal #those very reasons mentioned above was why King Dedede was always her favorite Kirby character #< unlike my brother and I she never watched the Kirby anime so she never really saw Dedede as a bad guy > #for myself though - I always saw Kirby and Meta Knight as being close in age in the games for reasons I don't feel like explaining in tags #and King Dedede was basically like Knuckles from Sonic to me #<- meaning that they're best friends but they still have a friendly rivalry that sometimes is mixed in with jealousy #but yeah. the friendship journey between him and Kirby is honestly heartwarming #it's one of my favorite parts of the Kirby series #unlike certain other games where characters always remain static all the time #King Dedede actually develops over the course of the games #he begins as a tyrant then gets an offer of friendship at the end once he's defeated #gets possessed a few times and is convinced by a Waddle Dee to join Kirby on an adventure #during that adventure he starts off acting very tsundere but in the end he acts friendly #and then there's Revenge of the King where he has his final battle against Kirby and decides to end his grudges against him #thus the start of their genuine friendship. though their rivalry still remains #and then of course Return to Dreamland where they're actually friends and allies #and Triple Deluxe where upon being snapped from mind control he tries to help Kirby #and Forgotten Land where it's mentioned that he was disheartened to end up in a completely new world without Kirby around #basically. what I'm trying to say is that Dedede went from a character who thought of himself as above everyone #to a character that now sees his once enemy as one of his greatest ally and friend #(which couldn't really work if Kirby was a child. because as an adult you can respect children but you should never view them as equals) #(<- reasons that every adult knows why. I know that game Dedede is childish but I doubt even he is that irresponsible with children) #((not saying that Dedede viewing Kirby as a child to him is impossible. but it would have to be in universe like the anime...)) #((in which Kirby is a baby or baby-like and Dedede actually acts like himself))
