Sephiroth learns what booping is from Zack one day and gently starts booping everyone he cares about. Cloud takes it personally and starts booping him back. Well, Cloud *tries* to boop him back, but Seph's so LONG. Doesn’t matter, Cloud’s a crafty, sneaky boopster and darts around like a silent, vengeful chocobo with a big foam finger to make up for the height difference.

So to keep the fun alive, Genesis and Zack appear out of nowhere and attach bells to both Cloud and Sephiroth to reduce their sneak abilities. So now the entire tower is jingling and giggling and Sephy is having the time of his LIFE. This is speaking to some inner instinct of his, but in a fun way for the first time outside of sparring.

Kunsel is glad he wears a helmet by default, because the number of times jingling grows louder rapidly, he gets booped, and giggles fade into the distance is too dang high. Kunsel's one of their few friends, so he's getting the brunt of this, along with Angeal, Genesis, and Zack.

Aerith, daughter of chaos, sneaks in and everyone thinks she's either Cloud or Sephiroth because who else could it be? They’re too fast to catch in the act, and those two goofballs are the only ones truly going at it.

Genesis, on a conference call: HEY! Sorry, one of them got me.

Angeal: HEY! ‘Scuse me, same here.

Zack: YO! Wait, how were the two of them in three places at once?!?!?!

Aerith: *giggles in the vents*

Lazard allows it, but subtly hints that they be careful who they do it to and definitely don't provoke anyone they shouldn't, because he's only going to help them get out of trouble if he himself is not too annoyed. Unfortunately for their victims, this gives them ~ideas~

Cloud pounces on Hojo and rips a chunk of skin and hair out, kicks him in the nuts, and screams BOOP. Then spends an hour in the bathroom aggressively grooming whatever part of himself touched The Horror.

Genesis decides to smack Scarlet for suggesting they use citizens as test dummies, calmly saying "Boop". Scarlet absolutely takes the bait and now it's a petty slap fight between them.

Angeal has his head in his hands. Is it embarrassment? Is it to hide his laughter? Only he knows…

Rufus shoots President Shinra and says "boop".

Somewhere in the chaos, Hojo's head falls on the floor with a dull thud and a deep, purring voice says “boop”.

The firsts but everyone gets a haircut

Sephiroth looks like Miniroth again! A very tall, very bulky Miniroth. His intimidation factor went down by a few points now that he looks wide-eyed and boyish again. But at least he finally looks his actual age. He doesn't particularly enjoy the fact that his beautiful hair is gone, but he knows it will probably grow back to full length within the span of a few days.

Genesis is YOWLING, freaking out. The NERVE of this! The SCANDAL! His beautiful ginger locks--shorn like a sheep! Now his dazzling good looks are operating at 90% capacity instead of 100%! You'll be hearing from his lawyer, no doubt. It's all well and good for freaks of nature like Sephiroth whose hair will grow back as quickly as he wills it. Genesis doesn't have that luxury! WHY MUST YOU TORTURE HIM THIS WAY?! WHY MUST--oh look. An alternative. And now Genesis is wearing the brightest, flashiest, most obnoxious hats in existence around the office so that everyone pays attention to him again.

Angeal...surprisingly looks kind of dashing? All at once the least popular member of the trio is turning a LOT of heads. No one's sure if it's because Sephiroth and Genesis got nerfed or if it's because Angeal just cleans up really well. Maybe both. Either way, a solid W for Angeal! He'd keep his hair short like this all the time but he has more important things to worry about within SOLDIER. And, admittedly, his mom liked his hair when it was its usual longer length. He's missing out. But it's on his terms. At least for now people appreciate him.

What do you think was the most challenging for Lazard in ShinRa? Taking care of his ~~idiots~~ SOLDIERs? His "family"? Other directors? Being a slum-born person in the ultra rich environment?

I think he handles his idiots and the being a slum-dweller pretty well! I mean, we can assume he hired Genesis and Angeal, two country boys with little to no experience in battle. Them turning out to be pre-Mako enhanced was a bonus. He also hides his identity as a slum born citizen (which you can learn from Kunsel by chatting with him). We can assume Deusericus is a false last name, which is. Very Interesting To Me.

But no I definitely think the hardest part was the other directors! Lazard, like Reeve, is one of the few directors to genuinely care about the people he’s in charge of, and it’s a struggle to pass the reforms that he wants when people like Heidegger and Scarlett are only concerned with money and carnage.

This particular fic does a really good job of showing how I think SOLDIER cares for their director, and vice versa!

Okay but can we get Angeal and Sephiroth fluff?

I don't know if this is fluff, but it's definitely "Two idiots that don't know they're in love" lmao.

• Angeal notices Sephiroth struggle while his hands are occupied, strands of hair falling into his eyes. Tentively, he moves behind him, reaching into Sephiroth's back pocket, where he knows his friend keeps a spare hair tie. Angeal gathers Sephiroth's hair at the nape of his neck gently, hoping his friend can't feel his breath on the back of his neck—spoiler: he can and it's entirely Angeal's fault that Sephiroth's skin is goose-flecked beneath his uniform. Once his hair is tied, Sephiroth thanks him. Angeal's finds his own "No problem" entirely ironic, because whatever the hell he feels pooling in his stomach is a problem.

• Angeal has this habit—annoying habit, according to Genesis—of holding a pen between his lips when he's engrossed in typing. Sephiroth finds it annoying too—annoyingly distracting. They're supposed to be going over assignment plans, but Sephiroth can't help but be distracted by the way Angeal rolls the pen between his teeth, sighing and stretching whenever he briefly breaks his concentration. Sephiroth can't concentrate, and half wishes Genesis were there to tell Angeal to "quit it."

Sephiroth realizes he's been staring when Angeal suddenly lifts his gaze, causing Sephiroth to hastily clamp his mouth shut with an embarrassingly audible click of his teeth.

• Angeal assists Sephiroth with an exercise during a training session that requires him to hold Sephiroth's waist. The proximity proves to be more distracting than helpful for both of them. Angeal tries to divert the attention from his red cheeks by commenting about how hot it is in the training room, and that maybe the air conditioning is broken. Meanwhile Sephiroth finds it impossible to concentrate when Angeal— shirtless and sweaty because the goddess doesn't help at a time like this—is gripping him firmly around the waist. Sephiroth thinks his mind is broken, because there is no way his mind is going in that direction right now.

• Angeal and Sephiroth's break falls on the same day, so they decide to have lunch at Sephiroth's place. Sephiroth helped Angeal cook, and afterward they find themselves sharing Sephiroth's bed.

Although neither of them is asleep, each pretends otherwise. Angeal lies awake, wondering whether Sephiroth's rolling over and burying his face into his neck was intentional. He wonders if what he's doing is wrong as his hand hesitantly trails down Sephiroth's bare back before curling around his waist. He steals glances at Sephiroth. He likes him when he's like this—his hair messily tied back, wearing nothing but pajama pants. Meanwhile, Sephiroth is wide awake, wondering why the hell Angeal's heart is beating so fast.

i never thought about that scene in crisis core where zack yells into the phone that way but wow. i see it totally differently now. big scary sephiroth shouldn’t pull away when yelled at based on his super-soldier poise but he does

Don't get me wrong, that scene in CC was definitely meant to be funny, but it's telling that sensitivity to sound is a common trauma response, and Sephiroth was visibly uncomfortable/annoyed. I imagine he has sensitive ears too because of the enhancements that amplifies sounds.

Another scene in Crisis Core that I might be reading too much into is the one in Lazard's office, when Sephiroth is already there, and Zack asks Lazard if he's being given another assignment (that was meant for Sephiroth) and he side-eyes Sephiroth a little, which makes Sephiroth immediately apologize. 😭 I always think it's so sad and little funny that he was feeling guilty.
