feature my two absolute favourite things about Somali weddings

the colour

and the buraanbur (a traditional Somali dance) which is usually accompanied by a song/poemcalled a gabay written specifically for the new couple which celebrates the bride and groom as well as those close to them. the gabay is a song of praise and a song of celebration. it follows a unique structure which takes skill to master correctly and is accompanied by a drum called a daf.
