“As the fight for LGBTQ rights became more mainstream, corporations have latched onto Pride Month as a way of courting the LGBTQ community, an important source of customers and skilled employees.
But do these corporations really support the LGBTQ movement? Popular Information has identified nine rainbow flag-waving corporations that gave $1 million or more to anti-gay politicians in the last election cycle.
Deconstructing corporate pride
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the most prominent organization dedicated to LGBTQ rights, produces a “Corporate Equality Index.” In 2019, 572 companies earned a perfect score. HRC says these companies are the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.”
Popular Information identified nine corporations that received a perfect score from HRC but donated $1 million or more in the last election cycle to politicians that received a zero on the HRC Congressional scorecard. The donations were all from corporate PACs to politicians or their leadership PACs.”

when i was a teenager it felt very revolutionary to be cruel to myself. like some kind of slow passive protest against how much everything hurt. i starved myself of sleep and food and tenderness because it felt right. it felt sharp and angry and radical and i wanted to be those things. adulthood is the realisation that the world is already working to cut into you well before you learn how to do it yourself. caring for yourself and others is the real protest

being aware of the impact of things we can often not think about (like straws) is important if we’re to make strides on environmental preservation
that does not eclipse the importance of being aware of how it impacts disabled people. they’re both conversations we need to have

Do you guys see the two young women on my shirt? Do you know who they are? The two people on my shirt are a couple named Melania and Chris, a couple of nights ago right here, they were assaulted because they’re lesbians. Because they gave the appearance of being lesbians and it’s pride month right now, which is a really excited thing because it means that we get to be together in moments like this, we get to create a safe space where we can look at our friends, look at our peers and other members of the LGBTQ+ community. Moments were we can say ‘I’m like you and you’re like me, we’re in this together.’ (credits)

Ironically, Hemsworth credits the movie he almost left — “Ghostbusters” — with priming audiences to accept Thor’s turn to screwball comedy. He would have liked to have done a “Ghostbusters” sequel, and he still hasn’t forgiven the online fanboys who viciously attacked the reboot because the new stars were played by women. “That whole period I was like, ‘What ownership do you guys have over those characters?’” Hemsworth says. “Oh, you watched the film, therefore you should have a say over where it goes? I thought it was very unfortunate and kind of disappointing.”
- Hemsworth speaking some serious truth about the toxicity of entitled fans

if you want to respond to gay people complaining about bad representation in media or lack thereof by telling us we should just make our own stories if we’re so unhappy how about you just put your clown shoes back on and do a little clown dance for us instead. as if gay people not being creative is the reason for the shortage of mainstream gay narratives and not homophobic censorship shut up.
