getting back into trying live 2d 🥩 i was very thorough in finding what everyone thought would be the most appealing aspects of a vtuber and putting them all together, cant argue with success

The reason why I prefer Barber's "synthesis" of Shockwave instead of just him becoming good again after getting his emotions back is because I feel it makes more sense. It's not like the "real" Shockwave was preserved on ice intact deeps inside himself waiting to defrost. Parts of him were supressed yeah, and because of Soundwave and Ravage we know he doesn't process emotions the way a regular Cybertronian because they can't get a read on him, but he's still has something of an emotional drive and he's still a person making choices and experiencing the world. He cannot be the same person he was because it's been 4 million years, all that's happened must change him as a person, and he had to retroactively process it all at once when he got his emotions back.

Shockwave's main drive has always been Cybertron, he wanted to make it a good place for Cybertronians and he wanted to deal with the eventual resource crisis. After getting Shadowplay the impulse for resources turned into a cold extreme of just conflating all of space and time onto Cybertron. When he gets his emotions back he has the ability to understand the actions of everyone else again and he realizes that Cybertronians are just doomed to be in constant conflict forever. So he decides the way to make them prosper is to create and destroy everything they value and turn that conflict outwards. And you know, he was always willing to do morally questionable things for Cybertron and his ideas on how to fic it where never that great, he's just so much worse now.
