I’m finally looking to the future and creating posts I can link, instead of answering the same questions over and over. It’s not that I mind answering them, it’s just that I usually don’t have the energy to give you the solid answer you deserve.
Where to start?
I generally wouldn’t recommend picking up where you left off for two reasons:
You spent a lot of time building up to that point, jumping right in is going to be a lot. Give yourself permission to start small; slowly building back up.
Something obviously wasn’t working and led to you stopping your craft for a while. Don’t force yourself to do the same things if they don’t work!
Get a solid foundation back under your feet:
Start at the basics, even if you knew the advanced stuff. Act like a beginner again and relearn. Chances are, you’ll learn some things you missed before!
Cleanse yourself, your space, your tools.
Rebuild and strengthen your wards.
Make a list of the things that you’d like to relearn, and pick something from the list each day and spend some time building your knowledge.
Don’t compare it to your old craft. Crafts and paths are constantly shifting over time, taking a break doesn’t change this, time has passed and your craft will likely be different.
Do what excites you! Learn new things too! What drew you back into the craft? This is a great chance for a fresh start!
Drawing a blank? Here’s some ideas of things to research/relearn:
Altars.
Astral travel/projection.
Astrology.
Correspondences.
Crystals.
Deities (perhaps learn about a new pantheon!)
Divination (any type).
Enchantments.
Herbs; remedies and magical uses.
The local world; birds, animals, plants.
Mythology (bonus: local mythology and lore).
Sigil creation and use.
Space; planets, constellations, moon phases, etc.
Spell writing and casting.
Spirit work.
Whatever you want!!
See also: how the mundane can influence your craft and what to research.
Some recommendations if you feel stuck/hit a block:
Browse the baby witch tag and help some beginners out. They have so much motivation and inspiration, and it’ll likely leak over to you (and you’ll reinforce some of the knowledge you forgot you had).
Buy yourself something witchy (it doesn’t have the be expensive, even just a new little candle you only burn for witchy things).
Find a friend who is also getting back into the craft, talk about your practices!
Look up some tips and tricks on overcoming art block/writer’s block and find a way to apply them.
Follow your passions. Don’t force yourself to be interested in something. Dive into what calls to you and allow yourself to follow wherever that leads you.
Know that it’s perfectly normal to hit blocks and lose motivation (it happens to me all the time at least). And it’s okay to take as many breaks/hiatuses as you need.
While researching alternative healing methods I came across the flower healing extracts. The idea being that certain flowers would help with different emotional and mental states. While this is actually a still existing alternative medicine and not actual witchcraft ingredients, there is some overlap and some plants and flowers I don’t normally see on ingredients posts
I found the list interesting, and even though some of these flowers may be harder to come by than many kitchen witch ingredients, I thought those on the tumblr witchcraft community who are looking to experiment with different ingredients to refine their potions, spells, and charms might benefit from trying some of these flowers. If you find any of this list helps in your craft I would love to hear about it

i am now home for the summer and parents have decided i am no longer allowed to burn incense in the house….. not even sage which had become one of my main ways of cleansing my spaces. (which seriously sucks because i just stocked up on everything) so my solution for cleansing my room has become making cleansing sprays they are super simple to make and they work great. ive started making them with other herbs for different effects, i will probably post them in the future.
You will need-
1 empty spray bottle preferably glass ( i try avoid using plastics)
a heat proof for the boiled water
Enough boiled water to fill bottle
½ part Sea Salt
2 parts Rosemary
2 parts Sage
1 part Basil
3 Bay Leaves
a few drops of Lemon juice
Collect and gather the supplies, and start boiling the water once the water has boiled pour it in a heat proof container or mug. then add the herbs and stir them around while focusing on your intent. let them steep until the water has become cool. once the water has cooled strain out the herbs and add the mixture to your spray bottle. Now Enjoy, you can use it on yourself or your altar or wherever you like.
last night I was denouncing some forgettable shitbag to my girlfriend and said “even the ground wouldn’t want him to rot in it” and was instantly projected into the body of a gnarled old irish woman 200 years ago, spinning thread and spitting on the ground as I bitch and look out to sea.
“In 1984, when Ruth Coker Burks was 25 and a young mother living in Arkansas, she would often visit a hospital to care for a friend with cancer.
During one visit, Ruth noticed the nurses would draw straws, afraid to go into one room, its door sealed by a big red bag. She asked why and the nurses told her the patient had AIDS.
On a repeat visit, and seeing the big red bag on the door, Ruth decided to disregard the warnings and sneaked into the room.
In the bed was a skeletal young man, who told Ruth he wanted to see his mother before he died. She left the room and told the nurses, who said, "Honey, his mother’s not coming. He’s been here six weeks. Nobody’s coming!”
Ruth called his mother anyway, who refused to come visit her son, who she described as a "sinner" and already dead to her, and that she wouldn't even claim his body when he died.
“I went back in his room and when I walked in, he said, "Oh, momma. I knew you’d come", and then he lifted his hand. And what was I going to do? So I took his hand. I said, "I’m here, honey. I’m here”, Ruth later recounted.
Ruth pulled a chair to his bedside, talked to him
and held his hand until he died 13 hours later.
After finally finding a funeral home that would his body, and paying for the cremation out of her own savings, Ruth buried his ashes on her family's large plot.
After this first encounter, Ruth cared for other patients. She would take them to appointments, obtain medications, apply for assistance, and even kept supplies of AIDS medications on hand, as some pharmacies would not carry them.
Ruth’s work soon became well known in the city and she received financial assistance from gay bars, "They would twirl up a drag show on Saturday night and here'd come the money. That's how we'd buy medicine, that's how we'd pay rent. If it hadn't been for the drag queens, I don't know what we would have done", Ruth said.
Over the next 30 years, Ruth cared for over 1,000 people and buried more than 40 on her family's plot most of whom were gay men whose families would not claim their ashes.
For this, Ruth has been nicknamed the 'Cemetery Angel'.”— by Ra-Ey Saley
