Berryheart still remembers the biggest mistake of her life. She had always encouraged her only daughter to always speak her mind, to stand up for herself, and to always be strong. Needlekit, her pride and joy. She had a sense of determination in her, and she would grow up to be an amazing warrior.

Except she never did.

When the apprentices had rebelled against Rowanstar, Berryheart wanted to stick by them. She was so proud of her daughter for taking a stand, and she believed too that Darktail was best for the clans.

But he wasn’t. ShadowClan had been practically destroyed. Her only child is dead. And Darktail had almost killed her for running away. It was a miracle she and her mate survived.

She was foolish. She knew now that no outsiders must ever be trusted. ShadowClan will stay strong by sticking to itself. ShadowClan doesn’t need anyone else. Now as her three kits are living in ShadowClan, she must protect them and never make the same mistake ever again. She could not lose another kit like she lost Needletail.

#jayfeather would be trying to catch kira #using his powers #but starclan would constantly be butting in and trying #to get him to return to the main plot #and eventually the erins would get sick of the ‘jayfeather tries to catch kira’ arc #and just resolve it by having jayfeather listen to starclan #kira would never be mentioned ever again #until maybe he shows up in a super edition #where skyclan (who have attacked a human before) #take him out

podlight warriorcats I will always love you…. Might post separately later I just wanted to post something here for once.. he’s like my 5th fave character rn and if they stick the landing with star he might become my third fave (I’m sorry but tree and brambleclaw will always take my 1 and 2 spots..) I really want a redemption for podlight even if it’s unlikely, it would be even cooler if he stayed a medicine cat…. Again never gonna happen but let a dude dream…

i think wind really demonstrates one of the main issues with the way warrior cats is written, that being the fact that nothing gets planned out in advance and the writer changes every book

because every book has to end with this big Moment, certain plot points get either rushed or delayed. for example, why the hell did they wait til the very end of thunder to make splashtail the leader? just as frostpaw got back?

it would have made way more sense for splashtail to be made leader early on in the book, so we could see from sunbeam’s chapters how splashtail was rebuilding riverclan in the background and gaining loyalty and respect. it could a sense of dramatic irony, with frostpaw and the reader learning the truth about splashtail while those back in the clans trust him more and more, giving him a great deal of power

this way, by the time frostpaw gets back, splashstar is a well established leader. it makes more sense why riverclan would be so opposed to the idea of loosing such a strong, stable leader, and it would be easier for splashstar to use his reputation and the current political climate to make it look like tigerstar has turned poor traumatized frostpaw against him

instead, by having thunder leave off on this big, dramatic ‘reveal’ of splashtail being made leader, the erin’s write themselves into a corner. there is no reason for frostpaw not to share the truth, so she does, but whoops! they can’t just end the arc with splashtail getting overthrown, so, even though it makes absolute zero sense for LITERALLY ALL OF RIVERCLAN to turn on her, they do

so now the erins have to justify why splashtail hasn’t been overthrown yet. if he was written the way he was previously written, it would make no sense for all of riverclan to throw their support behind him, so the erins have to turn him into a tyrant that everyone is too scared to stand up to

this is how splashtail goes from a clever, manipulative, if very impulsive and easy to anger villain, to a Godless Heathen Tyrant who kills his deputy for mildly disagreeing with him

because thunder ended with a Big Plot Twist, wind has to spend the entirety of its runtime justifying why the main conflict doesn’t just end right then and there. that is why the pacing screeches to a halt and that is why an artificial upping of the stakes happens right at the very end

wind is a book that spends its runtime trying to justify its existence. which is not what you want to see in the penultimate book in an arc

i do find it funny that onestar being like “hmmm no i can’t let my son into windclan” is seen by warrior cats people as the ultimate irredeemable dick move which makes him a horrible person forever. windclan, famously a pleasant place to live where nothing bad or lethal happens

i will defend mistystar forever. i love women who make the wrong decisions over and over again in order to appeal to the society that rejected and hurt them, in the process doing the same to others

i love how, even when she started the process of trying to mend things and use her power to fix this society, it was too late in her life for it to be her legacy. she will be remembered for the worst decisions she made. even if the reforms she pushed for in her final days go on to help prevent the hurt she experienced and the harm she inflicted, they will not be attributed to her

is that not a more interesting and realistic portrayal (however unintentional) of redemption? do you improve yourself for legacy or public image? or do you try to mend the harm you’ve contributed to, even knowing that forgiveness is out of reach?
