Sometimes I think about the sheer slutty confidence of Paul calling himself John’s “lucky break” and tbh it’s so infuriatingly hot that I can almost understand John snapping so hard when he heard it

I love how both John and Paul truly believed Linda and Yoko were like, a phase, like soon enough the other would get bored or sick of the girl and soon enough come crawling back to the other respectively and keep their little weird relationship/partnership as it was and always was. "I don't care if he's got all these flings with women, because at the end of the day he'll still come back to me and he'll still be my partner, mine mine mine—"
And then when they realized these women were here to stay, and were going to be more involved in the band's dynamics and business... It was like, earth shattering. The world as they knew it, their world, was officially changing, and to both of them, not for the better. Learning and reading and hearing about it was all tantrums, depressive, manic spiraling, rampant jealousy, refusing to communicate, not talking about what happened in India or refusing to acknowledge what happened in India, etc. etc.
In the end these women played a part (whether intentionally or not) in the eventual divorce between the two.
John and Paul refusing to both acknowledge and accept any serious contender to their own all consuming, intimate and special little relationship/partnership, is what played a part in their inevitable breakup.
Their wives were treated as one of the many threats to the Lennon-McCartney partnership/dynamic/relationship/whatever that was by John and Paul.

Lennon and McCartney 1965 ©David Bailey
I told John to close his eyes because I could feel this tension between him and Paul. I did them [together] afterwards; I got them looking different ways because there was such a tension. Although I’ve never seen it like those two guys – Oasis. I was doing their first Rolling Stone cover and I did it in ten minutes because I thought they were going to kill each other. -David Bailey

— “Memories of an Apple Girl” by Francie Schwartz for Rolling Stone Magazine (November 1969)
Wait, what? Francie referring to Paul as Johns princess in 1969. I’m so confused.

Everything that Paul and John's ex-girlfriends/wives have said about them
Cynthia
"John and Paul always had a special link between them, a chemistry that added to the heat."
Linda
"I was just some chick from New York when I walked into all of that. God, if I’d known what I know now…All I could do was sit there watching them [John and Paul] play these games.”
"They loved each other… they were friends, and it was deeper than any of us will ever know".
Yoko
"He [John] did put it that way, he was 'riding on the boat called Paul, and now I'm going to ride on a boat called Yoko." "I knew there was something going on there. From his [John] point of view, not from Paul’s. And he was so angry at Paul, I couldn’t help wondering what it was really about." "I’m sure that if he [Paul] had been a woman or something, he would have been a great threat, because there’s something definitely very strong between John and Paul." "I’m sure that in the case of Paul there’s that feeling that I’m the woman who took away his partner – it’s like a divorce." “I think it was like he was married to Paul. And now he was married to me so it was like a situation that he didn’t feel like he wanted to go back."
Jane
“When I came back after five months, Paul had changed so much. He was on LSD which I hadn’t shared. I was jealous of the spiritual experiences he’d had with John”. She told Ray Connnolly that "to Paul, his relationship with John was more important than his relationship with her".
Peggy Lipton
"John didn't like me being there at ALL. He was mean and sarcastic [...] I got the idea that he thought Paul was an idiot to take a girl so seriously he'd actually invite her to dinner, when all he really needed to do was fuck her AFTER dinner."
Francie
"I have no doubt Paul loved John deeply. But as I said on the Westwood One show, he is twice widowed now. His two great loves [John and Linda] are gone." "He wasn't happy. But the big things that were driving him mad were beyond me. He kept on working and writing, but when John came over, all he could talk about was how much he loved Yoko. That disturbed Paul." "That Paul started painting after John's death is no coincidence. That competition, the clash, the ebb and flow of *that* relationship, was so central to Paul's being, the only love that comes close to being a reasonable comparison is his marriage to Linda and the births of his children." "Please remember, Jane Asher was his first great love (after Lennon)." "For a reason to hold a grudge, think about the possibility of this: She [Yoko] took John from him. And she didn't particularly want to share John with his "ex significant other" on certain levels." "Paul hates Yoko for stealing the love of his life away from him. No, not Linda.... John! Paul has never forgiven her for that." "When John and Paul split up (think of them as a couple for a moment) their second mates had to stand by them."
Dot
"Paul hated Stu. It's true that Paul had his eye on Stu's bass, but in fact, he was jealous of Stu, especially of Stu's friendship with John. What's more, Stuart flaunted it. Time and again, he put it under Paul's nose and gave it a scornful swish."
Maggie
“They would bounce off each other. Their perceptions were different. Paul was softer and John sharper but they could change roles. They were so intertwined and so tight on so many different levels."

Audio
June 4th, 1968 (EMI Studios): While The Beatles are in the middle of recording and mixing ‘Revolution 1’, Yoko Ono observes them in the adjoining room, recording her thoughts and feelings in a stream of consciousness.
YOKO: After the initial embarrassment, then – um, now Paul is being very nice to me. He’s nice, and a – a very, um, str– on the level, straight sense. Like, um, whenever there’s something happening at Apple, he explains to me, as if I should know, [inaudible] and things like that. And also whenever there’s something like they need a light man or something like that, he asks me if I know of anybody in the art world, and things like that.
And like, um, I can see that he’s just now suddenly changing his attitude, like he’s being – he’s treating me with respect. Not because it’s me – but because I belong to John. I hope that’s what it is, because that would be nice. And I feel like he’s my younger brother or something like that. I’m sure that if he had been a woman or something, he would have been a great threat – because there’s something definitely very strong between John and Paul.
And, um – and probably among those three people of George and Ringo and Paul, Paul is the only one that I can sort of feel the vibration [from]. Like, sort of sense it, you know, that something is among that. ‘Cause Ringo and George, I just can’t communicate. I mean, I’m sure that George and – I’m really sure that they’re both very nice people, but that’s not the point… I think that’s because being, uh, [because of John, Paul, and me] being air signs, like Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius.

Imagine if instead of Pei Su decsending to clean up after the Xuan Ji incident, Pei Ming actually came down and wasted no time in trying to flirt with bride Xie Lian:
PM: * shamelessly flirting *
XL: ...
XL, obvious male voice: General Ming Guang, I think you have uhhh....mistaken me for a woman.
PM: ...
PM: SO REGARDING XUAN JI-

We have debates about who needs therapy the most in Heaven Official's Blessing but it's obviously Xuan Ji. Like has she never been told that any man can that be can "stolen" isn't worth having? Plus she had plenty of suitors in her kingdom! It's not like she had any fear of being forever alone, but she obviously has hard-core borderline personality disorder or something. She needs meds. She needs to be involuntarily committed.
And also Pei Ming was right to leave her. He probably started picking up on just exactly how crazy she is and dipped out but she only got worse. Like he is a hoe but at least he ain't a dumb hoe. I kind of feel sorry for him. Also saying that she has a "strong personality" instead of saying that she is batshit insane is kind of really nice of him?

the thing about pei ming. is that what the narrative shows you straight out is him in a relationship where he didn't follow the typical romantic convention of abandoning everything for the other person. and then him attempting to cover for his nepotism grandkid. and then his reputation for sleeping with a lot of women. and then it really doesn't want to let you talk about the fact that he's very consistent about making sure that the women he has relationships with are taken care of after he's gone. or that he was doing the honorable thing by not taking the easy way out of a war and did his best with an impossible situation with that woman afterwards and made sure she was taken care of to the best of his ability. or that shi wudu, water tyrant, trusts him so much that he's essentially appointed him as shi qingxuan's guardian in case anything happens to him. like YES he's a whore. AND.
