Here’s the art of Knight Steve that I didn’t have time to finish during SBB. But really, like I needed an excuse to draw BEARDY STEVE :D

Art for The Scottish Boy by Bette Noire (Stucky Medieval AU, 129k) The year is 1333. The English are at war with Scotland. 19-year-old West Country knight Sir Steven excels at jousting, but yearns to prove himself in real action. So he jumps when his sponsor, Baron Alexander Pierce, invites him on a secret mission with a dozen elite knights. It’s strange that ppl are trying to argue that Infinity War was better than Black Panther when it relied on its characters being ooc to keep the plot moving: Loki being dumb enough to pull a dagger on Thanos, Hulk being a punk ass bitch, Thor throwing away his 1500 years of experience by not aiming for the head of his enemy, T’challa sacrificing Wakanda and Wakandan lives for the Avengers’ yt ass problems the list goes on and on

People really need to start using their critical thinking skills about which superheroes are and are not furries. Black Panther is a mantle passed down for generations and NOT T'Challa's own fursona. His ancestor was the furry. Batman on the other hand is the biggest furry in town. Do you know how many sketch books of bats and batsonas the man has? He even calls himself Batman in his private thoughts, not Bruce.

art/headcanon rant time! finally! the headcanon-y bits for this image have been stewing about in my brain for a while and I can finally write them out!

I’ve named this piece simply ‘warpaint’ (yay work actually has a title!) because the gladiator’s warpaint in ragnarok sent me on a headanon spree + I’ve wanted to make something thorkyrie like since I saw the movie

so the warpaint got me thinking about whether asgard has had a similar tradition in the past, since they are a warrior culture, so I’m headcanoning that they totally did, but it got erased along with the other bits of asgardian history odin didn’t like

so the other part of this headcanon would be that asgardian warriors had a ritual of some sort that involved painting the warpaint on their shield-sibling/significant other or whomever it was they were going into battle with and that they trusted, b/c they’re essentially giving the person painting on them free reign, for all you know they might be drawing penises on your back LOL

which then of course leads me to the significance of the motifs that would get painted, and I’m going with that they were painting whatever the other person feared the most, as a sort of challenge to fates or whatever, like a 'come get me if you can’ sorta thing

which is why I picked a snake for thor, though not just any snake, but Jormungandr… although that’s not to say that thor is necessarily afraid of snakes, we know he’s not, but jormungandr in here is more of a representation of thor’s ultimate fate, b/c he’s destined to die by its venom at ragnarok (no one said which ragnarok though - one thing I liked about thor comics was that ragnarok was interpreted as a cyclic event, destined to repeat over and over)

and I’m not really clear on whether it’s just odin that knows how thor will die, or if the prophecy is more widely known (I like to think  that just odin and thor know, and possibly frigga and loki, but that valkyrie kinda sorta guessed, b/c she’s a valkyrie and idk, maybe she’s got some powers or something, can they see the dead?, I read on a marvel wiki that valkyries can see when a person is about to die, so I’m making ita spinoff of that ability idk, she just knows)

(I keep imagining a situation kinda like in sleeping beauty when maleficent crashes the party and gives that prophecy, that maybe someone did the same thing when thor was born lol, like 'you shall die by a snake’s bite’ muahahah’… and every time thor went to pick up a snake to admire it, odin would have a mini heart attack… and I’ve written about this before, but I just love the fact that thor loves snakes, and I am operating under the assumption that thor knows his own fate very well, and still went like 'i don’t care, snakes are awesome’)

as for valkyrie’s motif I picked a wolf, b/c when I was thinking about this piece, I was trying to work out how to show both their back to display the warpaint, and the obvious answer was a reflection in the window, which then spawned another idea, which was to have the wolf be one of the two wolves that chase the sun and moon across the sky, and because of the valkyries’ connection to wolves in irl mythology, but also b/c Hela and Fenris

the designs were inspired by tomb raider underworld, jormungandr in particular, the wold not so much, but in a way yes still

so the thing I was going for that the wolf-reflected in the window is 'eating’ the star that’s outside idk

and because I needed a lightsource there’s a charcoal burning brazier, and then I was like charcoal can make paint too, hence the mortar and pestle

as for the kiss… well do I really need an excuse for that? I don’t think so also I think it turned out nice, considering I was improvising that bit

but for the sake of the story, let’s just say it’s somewhere between the tropes 'we survived yesterday, let’s fuck’ and 'we might die tomorrow, let’s fuck’, maybe valkyrie can sense the death coming their way idk

and also no lines, yay!
