Lee was constantly talking about both of them. The video Monarch shows him was of both, of all three. Lee didn’t leave after Keiko died, he stayed and raised Hiroshi with Bill. Bill didn’t totally lose it until after he had lost both. Keiko continuously reminded Lee that all three of them were doing their work together. Hiroshi said his family was all three of them.

They were united in their mission and their madness and with each other.

Anyone else just remember that and have to sit there staring into space for a second……. They really gave us all that. Just in tragic flashbacks.

really, if this man hadn’t disappeared in that mission for 20 years, Monarch might have grown into an organization that is actually 200 times more effective at dealing with shit than it is now under his guidance

Kaiju Cults in the Monsterverse

Godzilla's first roar would have heralded the birth and death of a thousand human religions, and one of the things the Monsterverse gets right is that we humans with our tiny monkey brains would absolutely worship these things.

Within a year of Godzilla's emergence to battle the Mutos, news outlets would be reporting on small cults dedicated to He Who Rises, the Wavebringer, the Lord of the Deep, the Beast from the Sea (for the biblically inclined), and the Thunderer.

The fact that this remains unexplored is deeply depressing.

The bridge scene in the first episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is what I originally hoped the 2014 film would be like. The clamor, the desperation, the juxtaposition of the frightened humans with the howling titan whose very existence denies their own, the sense that nothing and no one really knows what to do in the face of this lumbering extinction event.

We root for Godzilla because, for many of us, he was a childhood hero, but if this thing really existed no one would be happy about it. This walking mountain might be there to "bring balance", but when dozens (if not hundreds or thousands) of children are dying all around him, it doesn't really matter that he's saving the world, does it?

My favorite part of Monsterverse lore is that Godzilla basically responded to being nuked in the face by just....fucking off for a while. Like, he could have blasted everyone within a hundred miles, but no...he takes a nuke to the dome and heads off to find his blankie under the sea and go nap-nap.

"Thanks for the snack, tiny humans. I'm drowning a city next time you see me, but whatevs."
