I’LL probably make a way more detailed post about this after I re-watch the show, but I really do think it’s interesting how Panty influences Stocking’s behavior.

We already know she tends to feel ( and often is ) overshadowed by her sister — understandable, given Panty’s behavior — & we especially see that addressed in the episode revolving around Panty’s, uh… Po.rno… But I think it’s ongoing throughout the series & their lives in general. Stocking’s not exactly the picture of cool, collected class that she likes to purport she is, but I DO think she’s more mature & intelligent than she puts on around her sister. I’m not suggesting Panty’s unintelligent at all ( actually, I think SHE’S smarter than she lets on as well ), but it seems apparent to me that Stocking tends to ‘dumb herself down’ quite a bit in her presence. She tends to be more crude & vulgar, too, particularly when they get involved in one of their typical spats; while she’s obviously a crude individual on her own, it reaches a whole new level when she feels threatened in one form or another — & I think that’s the source of a lot of the deep-seated issues in their dynamic. They both find something in each other that they consider inherently threatening , or perhaps even enviable.

Of course, Stocking DOES tend to give herself more credit than she necessarily deserves. There’s this interesting dichotomy between feeling as if Panty holds her back & feeling as if there’s certain things about Panty that she could never measure up to ; this results in Stocking often doing things in an attempt to stand out from her sister, hopefully make her more noticeable — but on the other hand, she’ll also accentuate what makes them DIFFERENT . The motives are similar, but NOT the same. This probably makes zero sense but it’s 1AM let me live I need to watch the show again

She seems to ooze a sarcastic sort of confidence, almost sardonic, and her cocky grin hardly reaches her eyes. If the cat plushy that serves as her constant companion is any indication, its expression suggests she’s deeply troubled just beneath the surface. Depending on the day, she sometimes catches herself wondering similar things ( before she promptly reminds herself that she’s acting like a fucking idiot and should think of literally anything else ) --- after all, she’d have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to feel the TENSION --- but if there’s one thing Stocking understands perfectly, it’s GUYS . She’s seen more than her fair share of revolving doors’ worth; mostly in and out of her sister’s bed ( or whatever available surface ), but occasionally her own, too. She understands perfectly well that they’ll say and do just about anything to add to that tally, and if it were up to her... She’d leave them in that precarious, figurative-blue-balls state forever if she could. More often than not, they opted simply to give up, but that was fine too --- it saved her from wasting her own time, right ?
